Response:Although they signed the contract on 11/17/14 they did not move out of the home until12/27/14. We had to deal with winter conditions which made the demoltion take a little longer. We were able to submit for a building permit on 5/1/15. It took until 7/14/15 to get a permit. There were a...

couple rejections of the permit application that we had to resolve -- Issues that were not raised on other permit applications we had submitted to the same building dept. We are under construction -- starting to frame the home on Aug 5th. We will be completed at the end of Novemeber. The contract gives us 6 months to build the home from when we start. From permit that would be January 14th 2016. When you consider they did not move out of the home until 12/27/14 (1 month and 10 days) we will only be a month behind schedule. We tell people 8 to 10 months, unfortunatley there are things out of our control - -one is the weather and the other is sub contractors not keeping to their schedule (which happened with the disconnetion of the sewer line and other site work that needed to be completed) -- we lost a month over the winter due to a bad winter and we lost a month in the permitting process. We are going to still be well within the time frames in the contract.

Review: Walters built a new home for us in 2015. We upgraded to laminate flooring on the main floor of the home. The laminate floor buckled within one month of closing on the house (April 2015). The floor technician found that the buckling was caused by the wall and quarter round molding having been nailed into the floor and also that no expansion strip was installed. An independent inspector found that these issues along with the floor being locked in and unable to expand caused cupping of the laminate boards. The laminate flooring has been damaged by the improper installation. Walters refuses to replace the damaged flooring. We believe that the manufacturer product warranty would be voided due to improper installation.Desired Settlement: Replacement of the laminate floor and proper installation of the new floor and molding.

Review: We signed a contract on 11/17/with Walters Homes based on advertising they could complete a home in 8-months with their ReBuild program for victims of Hurricane SandyA deposit of $30,was given at the time of signing and to-date the only progress Walters has made is the demo of the old house (cost is approx1/of the initial deposit) and the filing of permitsEven then, demo occurred months after the contract was signed due to delays caused by the inability of Walters to complete pre-demo items in a timely mannerCurrently, we are over a month past the expected date given to receive permits due to issues with the building plans submitted by WaltersAt this point according to Walters the expected completion date is pushed into late November and continues to get pushed with no real completion date in sightThe home being built is our primary residence and when we signed with Walters our priority was to be completed by September According to still current advertising by Walters this should have been possibleEvery month delayed is an additional cost of $between paying rent on a temporary apartment as well as storage for our itemsSoon we will be incurring transportation costs to bring our child from Barnegat to Toms River so he can attend schoolI do not receive status updates unless I ask and responses are usually delayed or inaccurateThe issues have been brought up to the owner of the company with no real resolution.Desired Settlement: Make this job a priority and finish the job in a timely manner

I am rejecting this response because:
This is the typical excuse ridden response that I have come to expect from Walters HomesI could go on and on with actual facts that rebut items addressed in the responseFor example, we were told we would have two months to vacate the houseThe fact that we took a little over a month so my young children could spend Christmas at our old house (which I would do again) actually worked in Walters Home's favor in regards to scheduleTo say demolition took a "little" longer is an understatementDemolition took months in a build scheduled for 8-months with weather being a very small part of the overall problemThey also failed to mention they did not know permits could have been applied for before demolition was complete, missing an opportunity to make up two months of schedule slipFraming did start on Aug5th for less than a full workday and has not been continued since despite perfect building weather this weekI held off on responding in hopes that once building started this is where Walters Homes would excelUnfortunately, that has not happened and things have taken a turn for the worseSince my initial complaint, twice I have caught Walters Homes deviating from the plans in an attempt to cut corners and save moneyThe first instance was corrected but the second was notThis is no longer a consumer complaint but a violation of consumer protection laws that will need to be settled at a later time on a different forum
