I had a very bad experience at The Pet Doctor after a $surgery on my dog A vet would not talk to me on the phone after the surgery A tech told me I could ask her questions and she would relay the questions to the vet and call me back with the answers Less than two days later I had the surgery redone at another vet's office for another $-- with an over-whelming infection Staff is rude and vet is definitely out of her league I know locals avoid The Pet Doctor Please -- your pets deserve better medical care and it is not from The Pet Doctor Will be registered a complaint w/the vet board in Myrtle Beach

We have lived in Myrtle Beach for just over two years now and we take both our kids (Bubba and Bella) to The Pet Dr and love everyone thereEveryone there truly care about our kidsNot only do we feel they get great care there but they are by far the most reasonable vet we have ever usedHighly recommend

I would highly recommend The Pet Doctor in Myrtle Beach We were visiting the area and had an emergency with our dog Harley He had semi collapsed and we walked into their office carrying him Of course we did not have an apt, but were immediately cared for and taken to a treatment room Two techs began assessing him Their care for us ws exceptional We were so thank that Harley came around and was OK Their office even called the next day to check on him I would highly recommend their practice to anyone who is need of a vet

As a Pet Parent I have been coming to The Pet Doctor for about a year or soIn that time I have experienced various attitudes from this staffMost commonly distainHowever I stayed thinking it was about my little guy and not meAs long as they were nice to himOver the last several months it seemed to get better and I was starting to feel comfortable with my decision to stayUntil this past FridayA few months ago my baby was diagnosed with DiabetesI spoke with DrStephanie *** who explained the options in careBeing a type diabetic myself I opted for insulin and diet foodThe Drexplained that we should do a glucose curve to determine more accurate results and added that this was more cost effective vsmulitiple visitsWhen I called to make this arrangement I was told the Drsaid to do glucose check visits firstThis was contradicting to what the Drtold me on the initial visitNonetheless not being in the field I did what was being suggestedToday, (roughly months since daignosed), was another glucose checkI explained I needed to purchase more insulinI asked if they had it on hand and the tech said yes but we had to wait for the Drto return from lunch since it was a prescriptionWe continued with the visit when DrFortorny walked inShe stopped and looked over to the exam room and gesturedThe tech told her who and what we were there forThe Drturned and kept goingHer indifference was blatent
In any event when I asked again about the insulin I was then asked if I had enough to last until Monday because now for some reason they didnt have it in stockI said I did and I could pick it up MondayThe tech left and then came back with another tech who told me I couldn't get his medicine until we did the curve test I asked why when I made appointment this wasn't mentioned as a possibility after all these weeks of no word from the Dr(I'm sure the response to this review will suggest that office protocol dictates this decision)In any event I'm a fairly well educated individual and completely grasp the concept and need for the curve testI welcome it to help regulate his diabetesBut to out of the blue hit me with this only because the Drhappened to be conscious of our existence was bothersomeI was told basically I had no option but to incur this unexpected expense in order to get his medicineOne tech told me to apply for a pet care insurance credit cardI had no idea they were in such doat syrsightsPeddling credit cardsI explained that this was an unexpected $on top of $med expense not to mention the short notice to be able to get him there at a.mdue to my work scheduleI was left standing there all eyes on me like I was a bad parent, when they had no respect or consideration for the corner they just put me intoNow I'm getting physically upsetI couldn't believe these people that profess to care wouldn't provide his medicine for now until arrangements could be made for the testI felt as though my baby's medicine was being held hostageAgain, I comprehend logic and reason and asked for it behind this decision and I was met with techs stammering and trying to quote text bookNeedless to say out came the condescending tones and short responsesAs usually happens when people are challengedI asked if I could talk to the DrI thought if I could talk to her she could surely explain the urgency for this test now and work with me on a different dayThe tech returned and told me that DrStephany told her to tell me if I wanted to speak with her I would be charged for an office visitI was stunnedApparently arrogance is abundantly alive and well hereI don't know why I was surprised by this response when she has literally been so far removed from patient care what with all the techs working thereMy apologies Dr., to presume you actually caredWe were the only patients in the building and you couldnt even acknowledge usUntil now I was ok with all they providedObviously barring the disdainful and contemptuous attitudes by some of the staff, which In my experience is reflective of managements apathyAs is also displayed in review rebuttals, by not taking any responsibility or to help rectify the situation but by pointing the finger back at the Pet owners and making them feel wrong and heartless about their beloved pets
Dr., stop and ask yourself why good employees are truly resigning and litterally advising patients to seek help elsewhereMaybe your code of ethics is sub par

A++++ is our Pet Doctor experienceWe have been going there for quite a few years now with out Bichons, Emma and Lily and have always received exceptional, professional and skilled treatmentDrStephanie doesn't just treat our dogs, she takes care of us and reassures us as the owner that everything is going to be OKWe think this is very important as the dogs ownerShe has a kind, compassionate staff We have been there periodically when an emergency has come in (seizure, car accident, etc) and everything STOPS to care for the poor suffering animal, this is very reassuring if we bring our pet in for an emergency that they will receive the same care...I thing our pets receive better care there than we do at our own doctor's...Makes us wish we were a dog....Thank you DrStephanie and Staff, you are the best!!!

I have done Italian Greyhound rescue for years and have dealt with all types of Veterinarians Both my visits to The Pet Doctor *** *** *** *** *** *** ** has to be one of the most insulting experiences I have ever had
When I brought my two Italian Greyhounds in for a dental they insisted they give them Lepto as part of their vaccine buster Italian Greyhounds typically do not do well with this part of the booster and I have been witness to many severe reactions to it
Yesterday I brought another Italian Greyhound in for a dental Even though we did have an appointment, the waiting room was full and I had to wait a very long time One of the technicians finally came to us and asked to take Gracie to get her weight and temperature When she was finally returned she had been given a fecal, a heartworm test and given shots so she could take the Bordetella that they wanted to give her They never asked and never told me they were going to do all of this to her
When I went to check out the bill was $and change A lot for a pre-exam for a dental I was sort of shocked(We are living on a fixed income) When I asked the check out person why it was so much she said they added a $deposit for the dental appointment for tomorrow She said it will be applied to the cost of the dental
Today she was supposed to go in for the dental We had winter storm warnings all night and this morning My husband had come back from a sleep study at 6:and said the roads were slippery That is was sleeting I called to cancel the appointment for Gracie I told them all the schools were closed, a lot of the bridges were now closed and the County was now asking to folks to stay put if they didn't need to go out She said I would lose my deposit I told her I would make another appointment today for later in the week She said she had to check with Stephanie (might be one of the vets) She called me back to inform me that I would indeed lose my deposit I told her I could not believe that they would ask me to risk an accident or something worse just to keep the dental appointment She said those were the rules
Can't ever imagine being treated this badly by anyone They should know better

I just want to share a very negative experience. I started going to the pet doctor in April of 2015, since then I have been there ateast a half a dozen times spending hundreds of dollars. Yes they figured out the problem but after the last visit I was told that when I was ready to get some more of his itch medicine that all I needed to do was call. That's what I did and they told me that I could not get a refill until he was up to date on his shots. I explained that he was up to date on his shots and when they checked they confirmed that he was. Then they said that he was due for his geriatric exam and I asked why he needed one because he is perfectly healthy except for needing his allergy medicine. They could not explain why. Then they told me that he needed labs and again I asked what that had to do with his allergy medicine. One tech had no answer for me and the other tech very rudley told me more or less that if I did not have the lab work done ( which is 152 dollars) that I must not really care for my pet. Everyone that know me knows how much I love my boys ( dogs ) and for her to say that to me was uncalled for. I have also witnessed in the past the same employee making that comment to another pet owner. Then when I ask to speak to the doctor Stephanie [redacted] first I was told that she was busy then I was told that she was not there, but my car and the doctors car where the only two in the parking lot. So I was lied to. It's very frustrating and unprofessional for the doctor not to come and talk to me. The receptionist told me I was welcome to go to another vet, which I already have an appointment somewhere else but in the mean time my boy will suffer his itch attacks all because they would not refill his medicine. I would not recommend the pet doctor to anyone. They seem to be more about money then people's cherished family pets

I had a very bad experience at The Pet Doctor after a $500 surgery on my dog. A vet would not talk to me on the phone after the surgery. A tech told me I could ask her questions and she would relay the questions to the vet and call me back with the answers. Less than two days later I had the surgery redone at another vet's office for another $500 -- with an over-whelming infection. Staff is rude and vet is definitely out of her league. I know locals avoid The Pet Doctor. Please -- your pets deserve better medical care and it is not from The Pet Doctor. Will be registered a complaint w/the vet board in Myrtle Beach.

Wish I read the reviews first. I took my 18 yr. old cat [redacted] to the vets because she was having problems. She was vomiting, and crying all the time. Two hours at the vets. Put this in a nutshell: she was tested for urinary tract infection. She had crystals in her urine, so they gave me an antibiotic. Also for her joints they gave me cosequine and pain meds. Mixed the cosequine in her food and she didn't eat it. Gave her the pain meds and she vomited. So I stopped with both. Then they gave me a can of cat food and a bag of dry food. She didn't like the wet food and she ate some of the dry with my other food mixed in. That bill was over $300. Then they made an appt. for 2 wks. Went today for a Re-Check and it cost me more money. I asked for a script because I get my flea protection online and they said it would be $7 for the script. Everything costs money here. I spoke to a few people and they aren't happy with the Pet Doctor either. I told them at the desk, I won't be back.
