On Tuesday January 7th 2014 we had children home from school for the 2ndconsecutive day due to cold...

weather. The local schools were cancelled due to weather and Monday January 6th we had cancelled classes in accordance with our normal policy of no school / no classes. Tuesday rolled around and it had warmed up to a balmy -6 degrees and in the interest of the parents and children we had posted that we would be holding classes that evening on our [redacted] page for those who felt they were able to make it. We did not single out anyone nor did we individually call every parent or student to let them know. All of our students and parents have been told to watch the [redacted] page for updates and changes in the weather to be flexible as needed with the rapidly changing conditions in Wisconsin. The previous Friday when we had class [redacted] (my Wife) had stated that if school was cancelled we would be closed as well and she had stated to keep an eye on the [redacted] page or to call with any questions.

In the attached message string from our [redacted] page you will see that I had apologized to Ms. [redacted] about Kingston missing out on the 8th when she initially contacted me. I had tried to discuss it with her but the Friday referenced in the message we were closed again due to icy unsafe conditions. She had asked for a credit in her first message and though I did offer to resolve the issue the best I can I did not promise a credit to her in any way. We charge $65.00 a month for 2 classes a week for her son and as long as there are classes available we have them.  We close for standard holidays, as well as weather and we have even closed once in 6 years for a day when my family went on vacation. I have never sold classes by the individual basis because the nature of our business is not run that way.

The following week I was out of town and did not have the opportunity to discuss it with her, but also did not receive any response from her or inquiry as well. A majority of the time her son was brought to classes by her Father due to her work schedule and so I did not get to see her often.

Fast Forward to Tuesday February 4th when she called and spoke to [redacted] about the credit, which [redacted] was not aware of and neither was I. [redacted] said she felt we could do something for her, she would just need to speak to me. She then reminded Ms. [redacted] that there was a Belt Exam on Friday and the cost for said exam was $25.00. Ms. [redacted] stated that she would have her father bring her son to class that evening and if it was ok she would pay tuition on Friday. [redacted] said that would be fine but just as a reminder tuition is due on the first of the month and Friday would be the 7th.

At this point Ms. [redacted] became very agitated and began to sound as if she were crying, told [redacted] that she did not know if this was going to work out since she is barely able to get by and keep her son in the program. When [redacted] tried to reply Ms. [redacted] said something that [redacted] did not understand and then promptly hung up on [redacted] with no warning. I received her message on [redacted] later that day, said I would like to try to make this right, and was not given the opportunity to do so.

At this point I have received no response from Ms. [redacted] in regards to my message sent February 6th. I did wait 2 days to respond hoping she would contact or stop in and talk to me but she did not.

We run a traditional Martial Arts School that does not always mesh with what people feel is correct or expect. We try to be as fair and open minded as we can but we also believe in teaching our students that there is a right and wrong. We teach them things like courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, and indomitable spirit. We treat our customers with respect and ask that we be treated in kind.

I hope this is appropriate as a response and please feel free to contact me if you need any more information. My Cell Phone is [redacted].

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
