Review: On July 2, 2014 my mother, [redacted], walked in to Washington Dental because she had a toothache on the upper left, #14. The doctor took x-rays and did an exam and told my mother that she needed a root canal. They scheduled her for August 1, 2014 to have the root canal done. They also told my mother she would need to pay for the procedure out of pocket because her insurance would not cover it. My mother is on Medi-Cal and Medi-care. They opened an account in my name, as my mother did not have sufficient credit. My mother went to the office on August 1, and went into the examination room, where she was given a shot to numb her mouth. After being numbed the doctor began to clean out the tooth and realized it was not salvageable and needed to be extracted. By this time the office had already opened a care credit account and maxed out the credit line of $2000 that was given to my mother. They charged my mother for a pulpal debrisment on the tooth they pulled out the same day. So my mother was in essence billed for two contradictory treatments on the same tooth in the same visit. On her first visit my mother was also charged 100.00 for a Smile Savers Discount plan. I do not understand why my mother needed to join a discount plan when she had insurance that they had already billed. Is that not against the rules from the Division of Insurance? Instead of refunding the Care credit money to the account they insisted on doing a full exam and full x-rays. The doctor then said my mother needed a deep cleaning. My mother has never had a deep cleaning, nor has she ever been recommended one from any previous dentist, as this is thought to be for people with severe gum disease. By definition scaling and root planning suggests so. My mother was scheduled for an October 28, 2014 appointment and she was told that due to the invasive nature of the appointment only half of her mouth would be done. When my mother went to the office on October 28, 2014, she was taken back and numbed on left side. She was then left alone in the room for around forty-five minutes before anyone else reappeared to check on her. When the doctor began cleaning her teeth, my mother told him she was still feeling pain, and he injected her mouth with another needle to numb it. After another half hour or so of waiting in the room alone, the doctor came in and began cleaning her teeth, and within five minutes he told her he was done. This deep surgical cleaning was done by a machine that squirted water and was over in around five minutes. My mother was furious and demanded a refund and a copy of her records. They only refunded the money they had collected in advance to the care credit account. When I finally received a copy of my Mothers ledger, I realized her insurance was billed while charging my mother for a discount plan, and she was charged for gingival irrigation, which was $50.00 for the mouth wash they used during her "deep cleaning". Overall, her account was charged over $600, most of which has been paid by my mother. She continues to pay the account off as the account is in my name and she does not want it to affect my credit. I want any and all charges made to the Care Credit account refunded to my mother immediately, and I want disciplinary action taken against Dr. [redacted] for his predatory practices against elderly and foreign-language patients like my mother.Desired Settlement: I want the full total of money paid by my mother to be refunded to her.
