Washington Electric Co-op Reviews (3)

I am writing to respond to Mr [redacted] ’s complaint filed with the Revdex.com against the Washington Electric Coop (WEC) We work hard to be responsive to all our consumer-owners and we are disappointed that a complaint has been filed with the Revdex.com Mr [redacted] has two meters at his residence; one for a residence and the other at a garage located near his home and on the same propertyHe requested WEC refund dollars for his account and pay for attorney fees as he felt he was overpaying WEC by having two meters and thought it was cheaper to have one meterI met with Mr [redacted] and explained that the two meter configuration actually cost him less money over the years than had he had one meterI also explained that he avoided the installation cost of wiring needed to connect both locations under one account; the cost to rewire his service is estimated to be about $1,and since it is on his side of the connection he would have to pay for that expense Mr [redacted] is concerned about paying a monthly customer charge which is currently $on both accounts However, he is actually saving money on the energy portion of his bill and it more than offsets paying $for each meter WEC has a two tiered energy charge; the first kWh are currently charged at $cents per kWh and all energy greater than kWh is charged at $ By having two meters and having low energy use at both locations, Mr [redacted] is able to pay for most of his energy at the lower rate or at $per kWhEssentially he gets two blocks or up to kWh at the lower rate rather than paying $for any kWh greater than kWhWe switched him from a seasonal account to a residential account so that he could further save on his energy bill WEC also offered a $bill credit as he would have saved on his bills had he requested to switch from seasonal to residential earlier We have reached out to Mr [redacted] on several occasions to explain his options but he did not take action earlier Please note that we simply can’t make a consumer switch from one price plan to another; we need the consumer to tell us to do that Mr [redacted] ’s complaint was also referred to the State of Vermont Public Utility Commission They confirmed that WEC followed the rules and its tariffsWe also advised Mr [redacted] that the state has a process to review utility complaints and that a lawyer was not needed to use the state’s services WEC’s offer to settle this complaint with Mr [redacted] remains available and we will happily provide him a $bill credit if he would like us to proceed Again we want to remind him that he is paying less for energy by having a two meters structure and ultimately he is saving moneyWe look forward to resolving this complaint with Mr [redacted] and urge him to reach us at WEC

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # [redacted]. Please add your rejection comments below.  After reading Washington Electric's reply all I can say is they are not telling it as it is. had my wife been able to continue paying the bills this matter would have never came to light. Before I continue let me make it clear Washington Electric is notorious for poor customer for poor customer relations after I discovered I was paying for two meters I contracted I had contracted them on the subject and got nowhere with them so I dropped the matter shortly there after I received a bill from them for 75.00 that I was to pay in advance for the meter on the garage. When I questioned them there reply was because it was a seasonal rental property. The garage has never been a rental as it had no septic or water and is listed by the town assessors as a two car garage , but no one  from Washington Electric would come out to look. We built the garage first so we would have a place to store our tools and material plus shelter for us as we worked on our house on weekends. We were traveling 250 miles to do so one way. at this point I told them I refused to pay the bill. The reply was very sarcastic, if I did not pay they would cut me off. At this point I went to a lawyer who contacted Vt public utilities and they denied us a hearing due to the fact Washington Electric was in the right to charge for two meters. On this I do agree but the fact is I do not need 2 meters I have been paying 27 years for an extra one that was due to a poorly designed installation laid out by Mr. Harvey [redacted] of Washington Electric over heard by me when the crew was here and saying Mr. [redacted] had been retired for 17 years and they were still fixing his mistakes. All I ever wanted was to leave things the way they were and discontinue paying for the second meter. I strongly feel that the handling of this matter by both Washington Electric and Vt public utilities was very poorly carried out being 88 years of age and a WW II Vet and parshly disabled I feel that I am at least entitled to some respect, I received none from either.

I am writing to respond to Mr. [redacted]’s complaint filed with the Revdex.com against the Washington Electric Coop (WEC).  We work hard to be responsive to all our consumer-owners and we are disappointed that a complaint has been filed with the Revdex.com.  Mr. [redacted] has two meters at...

his residence; one for a residence and the other at a garage located near his home and on the same property. He requested WEC refund dollars for his account and pay for attorney fees as he felt he was overpaying WEC by having two meters and thought it was cheaper to have one meter. I met with Mr. [redacted] and explained that the two meter configuration actually cost him less money over the 25 years than had he had one meter. I also explained that he avoided the installation cost of wiring needed to connect both locations under one account; the cost to rewire his service is estimated to be about $1,000 and since it is on his side of the connection he would have to pay for that expense.  Mr. [redacted] is concerned about paying a monthly customer charge which is currently $12.24 on both accounts.  However, he is actually saving money on the energy portion of his bill and it more than offsets paying $12.24 for each meter.  WEC has a two tiered energy charge; the first 200 kWh are currently charged at $0.0979 cents per kWh and all energy greater than 200 kWh is charged at $0.21859.  By having two meters and having low energy use at both locations, Mr. [redacted] is able to pay for most of his energy at the lower rate or at $0.0979 per kWh. Essentially he gets two blocks or up to 400 kWh at the lower rate rather than paying $0.21859 for any kWh greater than 200 kWh. We switched him from a seasonal account to a normal residential account so that he could further save on his energy bill.  WEC also offered a $200 bill credit as he would have saved on his bills had he requested to switch from seasonal to residential earlier.  We have reached out to Mr. [redacted] on several occasions to explain his options but he did not take action earlier.  Please note that we simply can’t make a consumer switch from one price plan to another; we need the consumer to tell us to do that.  Mr. [redacted]’s complaint was also referred to the State of Vermont Public Utility Commission.  They confirmed that WEC followed the rules and its tariffs. We also advised Mr. [redacted] that the state has a process to review utility complaints and that a lawyer was not needed to use the state’s services.  WEC’s offer to settle this complaint with Mr. [redacted] remains available and we will happily provide him a $200 bill credit if he would like us to proceed.  Again we want to remind him that he is paying less for energy by having a two meters structure and ultimately he is saving money. We look forward to resolving this complaint with Mr. [redacted] and urge him to reach us at WEC.
