same medication. doxycycline is very expensive. I checked on prices to ensure we are within the price standard. On line at fosters and smith for 100 ct doxycycline 100 mg the cost is $349. 1800 pet melds has the medication coumponded so for 100 count it is 183.57. Compounded medication has potentially lower efficacy than non compounded medication. I also called local pharmacies to see what the cost would be. Walgreens for 100mg doxycycline hyclate for 84 ctis 325$, for doxycycline monocyclate it is 153.75. The cost at Walmart pharmacy for doxycycline hyclate100 mg is 212$ and the cost at cvs pharmacy for the same is 245$. Thus are price is within the cost for this medication. Because it is a prescribed medication we can not return it once the client has purchased it. Clients are welcome to decline treatment for there pet at any time. The staff go through the cost of medication prior to having owners pay. Her dog is a large dog and requires 200 mg twice daily for 21 days for treatment of Lyme and anaplasma. This is the recommended course of action.
I am rejecting this response because: Attached are the email responses from three different local Veterinary Clinics in the Duluth area. I simply emailed them the prescribed dose and asked for their price. As you can clearly see, each of their prices are almost four times LESS than Waters Edge Animal Hospital! They are trying to justify their prices by getting quotes from Pharmacy's as opposed to Veterinary Clinics where one normally purchased their pet medications. I have since talked to other individuals who have had similar experiences with this office. I purchased the medicine for the dog in good faith that I wasn't being taken advantage of. Had I known they were overcharging for pet meds, I would definitely have gone elsewhere to purchase them! Dishonest. Thank you,[redacted]
