I secured a vacation rental from Waterside Villas with Boats on January 28,2020. The rental was for April 6-12. On March 27, 2020 Governor Roy Cooper signed Executive Order 121 ordering North Carolinians to remain in their homes. We are not allowed to travel for vacation purposes. On March 27, Governor Ron DeSantis issued executive order 20-87 which states that vacation rental properties in Florida are prohibited from taking new guests for check-in for the next two weeks (this covers our vacation period). I requested a refund for the rental since it would be against the law in NC and FL at this point. I was offered the option of either rebooking prior to mid-December or receiving an 80% refund. Rescheduling before mid-December is not possible. This was a family trip and we have a child that is in school. Not only are we not sure when this school year will end due to all of the school missed from covid-19, school begins again in August. So realistically, we only have approximately 2 months during the summer to rebook (if the villa is even available). Furthermore my husband and I both have jobs for which time off must be requested. This does not give our employers enough notice. Waterside Villas with boats is keeping 20% which is $613.25 for what they call administrative fees. We paid for a service that we can not by law get. It seems we got charged $613.25 for a few emails and the company cashing a check. I did not agree to make a donation to this company.

Refund I would like a full refund as I did not recieve any services for the money. Renting the villa at this point is against the law.

We offered Mr & Mrs *** the opportunity to rebook for a later date or to receive a refund of the 80% of the total. If they had rebooked or provisionally rebooked they would not have lost any money and there would have been no extra to pay. They chose the refund at 80%. The booking form (which they signed) and booking conditions state a 100% cancellation fee so close to arrival at the rental property. We refunded 80% but charged 20% for administration. We feel this is fair and we are sorry that Mr & Mrs *** are not happy with this.

They only offered a reschedule option through December of this year. Since we have no way of knowing what our work schedule or our son's school schedule will look like after this is over, that is not an acceptable offer. That is an offer that they knew we would not be able to work around.
They mention a cancellation fee, when it should be noted that the governor of Florida required this to be cancelled.
We had a contract for a house for the week, along with access to beaches, restaurants, etc. None of this was available at the time of travel.
At the time the guest cancelled the home was available and the guest is bound by contract. The contract states a loss of 100% and 80% was refunded as a gesture of goodwill from this company. All our guests are advised to take out travel insurance should any unforeseen circumstances occur.
20% is an administration charge and many companies are making much higher charges than this such as 50% by VRBO.
