Wausau 29 Storage Reviews (%countItem)

This *** has recently purchased and started running the storage unit business May 1st, 2020. I first showed him all the water that had gotten into my units that spring plus all the mold that was already forming and growing on a bunch of my items plus boxes that were soaked and I already had everything up on pallets he just said it wasn't his problem. He said he just bought the storage unit business so the problems I was having now wasn't his problem.
Then came his new lease I had to sign with lots of stipulations but the biggest one is we have to use locks supplied by him and he keeps a copy of the key for each lock.
I did finally go and get the locks from him that he made me use that were supplied by him and I picked them up the end of May of 2020. I go down to my Units a couple times a week and I'm the only other person that had keys for my locks.
I was down at my storage units on June 18th 2020. The next day I went down there was Monday June 22nd, 2020. I unlocked the lock and opened the door I noticed a whole bunch of stuff missing and empty spots. I panicked and started unlocking my other units. One other unit had tons of missing items. I was in a tizzy. I called the owner and told him about all my stuff that's missing and that only him and I have a key. Called cops.
I tried my keys on other units and found my key for one of the locks that lots of items missing also fit into someone else's unit that had just moved out. I told the owners wife that I wouldn't use their locks anymore cause I didn't feel my stuff was safe anymore. I had my locks on since 2014 had no problems and then put their locks on and had a bunch of my stuff stolen.
The next day I got a 30 day notice that I had to move all 3 of my units out cause it's the law. I called and left a message with the Deputy suppose to be working my case about the keys working on other units. Nothing was put into file or called back. Owner of Storage Unit also works at Sheriffs Dept with Deputy.

*** This is regards to my complaint about Wausau 29 Storage. I do now have the Wausau Police Department helping me out on the case and a Detective is personally assigned to the case. The owner of Wausau 29 Storage I guess is still sticking to his request of me moving out in the 30 days. I would rather settle this whole thing in a less stressful manner especially when the business is right across the street from where I presently live. I do have insurance on my items. The biggest problem I having right now is when I'm moving my storage units. When I first am loading the stuff into the trailer and the vehicles I am trying to go through all the boxes and tubs to make sure I don't report stuff that is missing that is not. Plus finding stuff that is missing and packed in different boxes plus empty boxes and totes under things. So still working on the list for the Wausau P.D. Detective and my Insurance. The only thing I would like from the owner of Wausau 29 Storage anymore, is more time at no cost to get all my storage units emptied (another month). He can keep my Security Deposit. Just way to much to move for my mother and myself at this point. My father may have been exposed to the virus now so he has quarantined himself until tested. I just want to be able to breath and try and live in peace. Thank you

I am writing is response to the complaint made against our company.

We inspected the property while there was a large amount of snow on the ground which was late January. By the time of closing, March 6th, 2020, the snow had begun to melt and we could see water entering the building. I addressed this with the previous owner who stated it has been a problem since the building was erected and that he provides pallets to his customers to keep their items out of the water. The previous owner stated he only had a handful of tenants, who mainly were people he knew personally. After purchase and while making 1st contact with the existing customers, they all stated they had water in their units over the years and they just used pallets to solve the problem. ***, who is making the complaint, stated she has had water in her units every winter since she moved in around 2015, as stated by her. Any previous damage can be taken up with the previous owner as discussed with her. *** did not show me the water damage until I was repairing the doors on her units because they were being damaged every time she used them. During the repairs, *** stated she had wet boxes and other items, but I did not go beyond the door during the repairs; there was no room as she had items stated as high as 8ft by estimation and I did not fit in there.

Our company choose to provide locks to our customers as most had the original locks on their units which were purchased in kits of 3 and had matching keys. There are 2 holes on the latch where a lock can be attached and she could have kept her own locks on. We did not, and do not, require our customers to use our locks and there is no verbiage in our Rental Agreements stating customers have to use the locks.

Due to spring-time road closures and frost, the earliest we could have heavy equipment delivered was April 1st. On April 1st, I rented a bulldozer and regraded the entire parking area of the property and also brought in over $3,000 of new gravel so there would be no mud going forward as the property was previously neglected.

*** would not sign up on our website as a customer as discussed on the phone. She stopped answering calls and refused to return calls and emails until May 1st or 2nd. The website was ready for our customers in March and it took all of 2 months to get her to sign up, and afterwards another 3-4 weeks to sign the lease agreement. *** then stated she could not afford rent so we gave her a discounted rate in $65 per month for each unit instead of the standard rate of $78. Emails can be provided that recorded our conversation stating once the units were getting near full, she would either pay full rate or move out, which she agreed to. The units she rents are 10x25 and we were at 100% occupancy when we requested she move out.

To date, *** has yet to provide a comprehensive list to law enforcement of her allegedly stolen items, which I told her to contact them in the first place so they could investigate if a crime had actually occurred. She stated to me this past Saturday, July 25th, that she has now found items she thought were stolen and thinks others may have been taken instead. Without a comprehensive list and with her allegations continuing to change, a money amount can not be put on her alleged stolen items and no proof can be found of the crime. *** originally stated boxes in the very back of 1 of her units had been entered and items taken and that these boxes were located at the bottom of her stacks of items. Now, *** has stated 2 of her units have been entered and that, "Every single box has been opened!" With the inconsistencies in her complaint, both law enforcement and our company cannot move forward with the investigation.

I witnessed *** approaching other tenants stated they should change their locks and that I may have stolen her items. It is in our company's best interest to no longer provide services to ***, especially with her inconsistencies, and we wish to part ways with her. We are currently attempting to remove the odors in the units she occupied. If unsuccessful, we will have to spend a great deal of money removing and replacing the wall panels in all 3 units. We are also unable to rent those same units because of the heavy odors that remain, which is costing us more money as time passes.
