Contractor did not meet many of the details in the contract and has caused monetary and emotional damage

Wausau Homes Mount Horeb is a rip-off. STEP #1: They lured us in with a low-ball estimate and told us the price would only increase if we added features. #2: They took thousands of dollars that was not refundable for a "design estimate." #3: They dragged out the design process so that we would have so much time invested that most people would not want to back out. #4: They dropped the bomb on us—our cost was going to be over $100,000 more than the estimate we were given when we paid our design estimate. And there was no valid reason for increase. #5: They refused to refund the design estimate, or even split the difference. #6: They made bogus excuses like "you added this" or "you added that." …but the things they say we "added" were included in the base plan, like window trim and door trim. We have all of this documented in email. We're busy professionals, and way too busy too fight it in court right now, and I suspect they knew we would be. So they got thousands of dollars, and we don't have anything to show for it—not even a design that we can use with a different builder. They were friendly in the beginning, and cold as ice when refusing to refund our design estimate, or even a partial refund. RIP OF!

We purchased a home through a contractor selling for Wausau Homes. We were promised a firm price, on time completion, and everything our way. We are now through the construction phase and moved in. Our contractor was let go from Wausau as a seller after we signed a contract. We are experiencing lots of extra costs, the largest being a septic system which was originally included in our contract. After the contracted completion date, the contractor informed us her contractor could not complete the work and we should find someone to get it done. We are now stuck with the charges and are told we aren't going to get our allowance back because there are lots of other overages because allowances were estimated wrong. We have contacted Wausau in regards and recently have not had anyone return our call with our issues to see where we can go from here. It's very frustrating when the selling point was firm pricing and on time compeltion and none of it happened!! You get a home loan for the firm price and can't go over it and then when all the sudden there are more expenses we are expected to pay,..... how?!

Wausau's hired seller, our contractor, used the money we paid to them for our home to pay for their prior project. Therefore, they didn't have money to pay for our project and in the end we are stuck with extra expenses (going against Wausau's promise of a firm price). We had to pay, on top of the contracted price, for rock ($2619.55), septic ($12588.28), light bulbs ($207.04), door pulls ($147.94), LP ($1639.90), garage door repairs ($200) [because our contractor would not answer calls in regards to our in opperable garage door], cement work overages ($8500). These are all costs that were supposed to be in the contract and were not fullfilled when we were told from the beginning that "everything is included all the way down to the door knobs - and there's nothing you will need to worry about". When we have people coming to us wanting paid, when we paid our contractor, that not not acceptable. Our contractor took our money and gave it to someone else and now has nothing to pay for our issues. Also, the garage doors we ordered were not the ones that were installed and we are told she is waiting to get us the right ones until we are settled up. This is not good business and makes several parties look bad.

My husband and I went to Wausau Homes to build our forever, future home. At our first meeting we let Wausau Homes know what our Plans were. We made it very clear that we were bringing in our own contractors for our Well, Septic and Foundation. Also told them that we are doing a lot of the work ourselves such as driveway, getting permits etc. We basically wanted just the home. At this time this want not an issue, the sale man told us that was fine. We provide them with our contractors names, bids and quotes. We meet with Wausau Homes multiple times after this. We worked on providing everything to them for our bids. We started working on our plans/blueprints to the extent of picking out everything such as cabinets, windows, doors etc. We were set!!!!! We signed the design agreement as we were under the agreement that we would move forward with Wausau Homes under the verbal agreement with Wausau Homes under the conditions with our contractors that we are hiring to work for us directly. We paid the $1500 for the plans, please note we never once saw the blueprints nor did we ever get a final cost on the house even when I asked multiple times. Once we were getting ready to settle for the final cost of the house and move forward on building the home Wausau Homes informed us we needed our contractors to sign a subcontractor agreement that indicated that all the money flow has to go through Wausau Homes and that our contractors need to sign this bogus agreement basically signing all their business over to Wausau Homes. Our vendors refuse to sign this agreement and again made it clear they are working for us directly not Wausau Homes. At this time our contractors we have hired are members of our community and are well known. They are loyal, trustworthy and honest people who have worked hard to build their business. We picked our contractors for the reasons that we want to support our community. We did not want to go trough Wausau Homes for all things to build our home, which this was not a problem with Wausau Homes until this time after we signed the design agreement of coarse. Never once in the many many times we met with Wausau homes did they ever mention the subcontractor agreement, nor did they ever mention that bringing in our own contractors would be an issue or would arise to this agreement. Therefore we signed the design agreement with the understanding from Wausau Homes that we were goo to go with our requests. Now, we have an issue as they want us to have our contractors to sign this agreement. At this time, we had reached out multiple times and we got nowhere. Eventually our sales man stopped responding to my emails and refused to issue us a $1500 refund for the blueprints that we are not able to use due to their dishonestly. At this time I had no choice but to reach out to the President Jay Shcuette, Jay agreed to remove the section of the subcontractor agreement where our contractors would need to refer all future business to them, however he would not remove the subcontractor agreement all together. We are the general contractor and we have money to pay our contractors and do not need it to go through Wausau homes for them to take their cut that they are not entitled to. We made several phones calls to the President and the last phone call we received we were informed that we don't have enough time or money to go up against him. Professional huh!???
My family has been living our of suitcases as we had sold our home in the event that we were all set with Wausau Homes. Now due to their dishonestly we are set back and stressed. We are starting all over with a wonderful contractor who is honest.

Never got a move in date.House still not finished.Wausau builder walked-off.

Wausau Homes advertises "Promises" and "Guarantees" relating to price and move in dates for their custom new home construction. We signed our contract Oct 5th, 2017. On 11/15/2017 we received a set date for the house and a move in date of 4/13/2018. I should say a "guaranteed move in date." We did not change this date, and indeed counted on it as we are living out of suitcases during this time. Earlier would be better. It is almost a month later, we are definitely not moved in, and ***/Wausau homes is still waiting for materials for our home. Our build was not managed to progress along with their schedule. On site management/supervision was certainly lacking. All contract "allowances" went well over ***/Wausau estimates. Some because of our choices, but some not. Price guarantee?

I had received a voicemail from you regarding a complaint from a ***, case number 12850782. The best people in the organization to speak with may be either Jay Schuette, our President. His email is ***. Just from looking at our records, Mr. is/was working with the builder out of Rhinelander. His contact information is *** and his phone number is 715-369-3031. Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Wausau Homes' website is where I found the advertised promises and guarantees for "specific move in date" and "pricing." This information was not offered anywhere else. Only on Wausau Homes' website. I was given a move in date of 4/13/2018. "Guaranteed", as per their advertising. I am still not moved in as of 6/18/2018. This is false advertising and a crappy way to treat customers. Now Wausau Homes seems to be trying to pull a bait and switch, saying, somehow, they are not responsible for this advertising. No, it was this specific "guaranteed" move in date that led us to sign with Wausau Homes! Their guaranteed move-in date is not as advertised!

Can you tell me what happened in your case? I am having very similar issues. Did you end up in civil court or anything like that? Looking for what my options are since it sounds like corporate has a canned response for any complaints
