Wausau Supply Reviews (4)

I bought 2 exterior doors through Callen Construction which they get from Wausu supply/Waudena Millwork, I bought these doors almost 2 years ago. Within a year the finish around the [redacted] was already peeling off on the interior side of one of the doors, so they replaced it .Now not even two years since my original purchase the interior of the other original door, along with the replacement door are having the same problem. I contacted Callen Construction regarding the quality problem and they reached out to the manufacturer who responded by saying it was normal wear and tear, and that I am doing something to the doors to have the finish peel off. They told me of everything possible that could scratch the door from keys, which we do not use on the interior side of the door due to turn locks (the exterior where keys are used is not damaged) to back packs (which no one in this house has), or passing through in a narrow area (also not the situation here). Their solution for not even two year old doors that cost $4000 that are already damaged, was to have me stain the door ourselves, and add a urethane finish. They acknowledge they have seen this damage on other doors before, but refuse to acknowledge it is a quality issue with their product. Instead they would rather place blame on the consumer, and tell them to "be more cautious when using the doors", because I guess opening and closing a door is not standard use. For $4000 I would expect the doors to last more than a year or two, as normal opening and closing of the door should not cause a quality finish to chip. A family member has a similar style/finish door from another company, and that door looks brand new almost 6 years later, while my not even two year old doors look like they need to be replaced already. I should have known I would have trouble with the doors, when upon installation they leave you with a bottle of touch up paint

Review: My husband & I built a new home in 2005 & our builder had us choose our front door from Wausau. A year after we moved in, we could already tell that the door was defective. The paint on the outside of the door was faded & it appeared to have a hard water stain running down from the half circle window. We notified the lumberyard who built our home. They said they would contact their Waussau rep. As time went on, the paint around the half circle window starting flaking off & it appeared to have a rusty look around it. The sidelight molding was cracked in a couple places & the paint was faded. The Wausau rep came out to replace the molding around the sidelight window which had the original door color but now is next to the severly faded sidelight. He also cleaned around the half circle window of the door & touched up the paint which had flaked off/rusted & now you can see his cleaning marks. The molding (with the original door color) around that half circle window was also cracked & replaced & again is against the severly faded door. Every year the molding cracks. The door & sidelight look terrible. We have contacted the lumberyard who has contacted the Wausau rep who is not standing behind this defective door. The rep was at our home again today replacing the molding. He stated the company had problems with this door color. We spent a lot of money on this door & feel this company should stand behind their product. They openly admitted they had problems with this color. They continue to keep pushing us off until one day, I feel they will say the door is too old & we will not do anything more. Revdex.com, can you help us get this resolved? Thank you!Desired Settlement: I would like Wausau to stand behind their product & replace my defective front door & sidelight.

Response:

We are currently in talks with both the H/O and the lumber yard that distributed this product and are working on a resolution.

We have made a resolution offer to the yard and they are working with the H/O.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Sincerely

My wife and I ordered siding materials from our local vender whom ordered it through Wausau Supply. We picked it out from their catalog that was supplied to us from our vendor, we also looked at photos on Wausau's website to confirm the looks of the product. When we received our product, it was not the product that we ordered. We called our vendor and they arranged for a rep from Wausau to come to our property along with a rep from our vendor. For an hour, we went back and forth with the Wausau rep, arguing over the product, he said it was correct, we compared photos from the catalog and it clearly was incorrect. The rep still would not acknowledge anything different between the two products. He left assuring us that the matter would be resolved. I was then contacted by his supervisor via phone and he explained to me that there was no issues, they sent us the correct product that was ordered. After arguing for 10 minutes, he hung up the phone on me. I was able to get in touch with the supervisor's boss and explained the situation. He spoke very candidly over the phone and assured me he would examine the situation and things would get handled. He called back over a week later and explained to me that they reviewed the order and Wausau sent the correct product to us and they would not be taking it back. It was at that time I asked him to go to his website (wausausupply.com) and look at the picture of the house displayed under products>stucco. He then told me that the product in the picture on their company's website, was a product that was discontinued 2 years prior and was no longer available. I asked him if he thought they were false advertising, and he's response was, "Well, I'm not going to disagree." It was at that time again, I asked from a refund and for them to come get their product. He told me that if I felt that I had been wronged, I needed to go to my local vendor. I then took a screen shot of their website and saved the photo showing the discontinued product. I called my local vendor and explained the situation. The supervisor there was upset over the phone and told me he would handle it. He called me back 3 days later and told me that he had spoke to Wausau and they all agreed that it was a big misunderstanding and nobody was at fault. Their solution to the problem was to split the bill of the product 4 ways, Wausau, local vendor, contractor and myself. I declined their offer and then contacted an attorney. I explained to the attorney the situation, sent him the photo of the website (which had been completely changed within 24 hours), and he told me he would handle it. About 20 minutes after the phone call with the attorney, my vendor called me and told me they would be splitting the cost of the material with Wausau and that I would be getting my refund. They had a truck in my driveway within 3 hours and picked up the product. This experience was dragged out over a 5 week period, I would never recommend Wausau Supply to anyone. We ended up reordering from Menards and received a much nicer and stronger product in half the time and was about 3/4 of the cost.
