Waynes Used Cars Reviews (1)

Review: I contacted them about a 94 toyota pu. The sales person was helpful. I asked condition of truck as related to any rust problems. They said the truck was in very good condition with only two small rust spots on the outside of doors. They sent picts. I called back to have him check the inside bottom of doors for rust which is a trouble spot for these trucks because this area can not be repaired like the spots they sent picts. of. He said there was no rust on the lower inside part of the doors. I bought the truck because he said he did not find rust down there, and had it shipped to us. The only way to fix rust on the inside is to replace the doors. I bought the truck BECAUSE he told me upon his personal viewing of the doors, that there was NO rust on the interior bottom edge of the doors. Once delivered, we also found 1. emergency brake was broken, 2. hood latch was broken 3. valve covers leaking oil 4. nut missing on power steering pump 5. front axle shaft boots ripped 6. idler arm is bad 7. body bushings are bad 8. other miscellaneous things need to be repaired or replaced. I contacted them about the door rust with an estimate of $1700.00 to fix door rust. They refused to offer any compensation on the vehicle, citing they had paid too much for it and would not make enough profit if they helped with repairing the doors (which they said had no rust on the inside)Desired Settlement: I would like the doors to be repaired to my satisfaction, and broken parts repaired or replaced, as needed. I would accept a cash settlement to help with these repairs.

Response:

Mrs [redacted], I am responding to your letter about [redacted], ID [redacted], about a 1994 Toyota truck he purchased from us. In his statement of the problem he listed a number of problems he says is wrong with the truck. When Mr. [redacted] was inquiring about this truck via internet and phone he asked about rust. We did our best to explain to him every rust spot we could find and also sent him multiple pictures of each spot we found. Mr [redacted] asked about the inside lower portions of the doors and I personally sent him pictures of the areas of his concern. We have been in business at the same location with the same name for over 33 years and do our best to never misrepresent any vehicle to any of our customers no matter what. The vast majority of the issues he has listed are things that would not be found unless taken to a specialty shop. The emergency brake worked at the time of inspection and the hood latch was just old and required a little jiggle to work properly. This truck was sold to Mr [redacted] AS IS WHERE IS and in accordance with our Virginia State laws and the laws of Motor Vehicle Dealer Board. In no way did we misrepresent this truck. I feel as if Mr [redacted] purchased a good, hard to find truck (he is from [redacted] and had to come to Virginia to find one). Please let me know if I can be of anymore help.Thank You,[redacted], forRicky Carter Waynes Used Cars

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I have read their response which offered no compensation. There were problems with rust which were not reported to us. There were pictures of three small spots of rust on the outside of the two doors. I asked the salesman to check the INSIDE lower edge of the door when he was on the phone with me. He looked and said, "Nope, there's no rust on the inside." I have pictures of the rust that I have sent to Wayne's Used Cars. I also have pictures of the emergency brake cable hanging from the bottom of the vehicle with some kind of after market cable tightener, in their sales lot. The cable was broken and I still have the cable. I also have the cable, which was bad, for the hood latch. It can be inspected. I have all the pictures they sent me, two sets, showing the outside rust, but not the inside. The vehicle description they gave said, "Very well maintained, runs and drives perfect, won't last long". It does not take an inspection to see the puddles of oil under the car after you shut it off. The valve covers leaked oil, engine was a quart low when I received it. The power steering pulley had no nut on it and could have fallen off, and after driving it to the DMV and back, the power steering leaked all of its oil out. I have had to change front CV shafts, (boots ripped), idler arm was bad, upper tie rod to drag link was loose. I have kept all parts, to be inspected and I understand that a vehicle of this age will have some problems but my main concern is about being lied to about the rust on the inside of the door, costing $1700.00 to repair. I looked at several trucks on line, ranging from $4500. to $5500. I did not buy them because of the rust problem on the inside bottom edge of the doors. I paid $6850. for this truck because I was assured there was no rust inside the door, which I knew would be a great expense to repair. I told the salesman I did not want a rust bucket, and he assured me I would be very happy with this one, and if I were unhappy when it arrived, they would help me out. Now I've been told that they did not make enough profit on the truck and would not honor their word. Again, if I had been told about the rust on the bottom edge of the inside of the doors, I would not have bought it. Short of driving to Virginia myself, I chose to take the word of the person I spoke with. My mistake. Regards,[redacted]

Response:

To whom it may concern, Waynes Used Cars went above and beyond to represent this truck to the best of our abilities. Mr [redacted] asked for pictures of the area of concern and I personally got down on the ground and took pictures and sent them to him on the very day he requested. There is nothing more we could have done to represent these areas better. Thank You,[redacted] Ricky Carter Waynes Used Cars

Response:

The current response by the seller is inaccurate. The facts are: the salesperson (not the owner) spoke with me on the phone and told me THERE WAS NO RUST ON THE INSIDE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE DOORS. He sent me pictures of the rust on the outside of the door, which could be repaired with minor expense. There were NO pictures sent to me of the inside edge of the doors. His verbal assurance to me was that THERE WAS NO RUST ON THE INSIDE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE DOORS. We spent about five minutes on the phone with him telling me there were no problems with the car, that I would be very happy with it, and that when I received it, should there be a problem, they would help make it right. I am willing to send pictures of the actual condition of the doors, and receipts and pictures for the parts I have had to repair or replace. The truck arrived to me in an unsafe driving condition. I believe that since we are out-of-state, they sold me the car knowing that I would have no recourse for their lying. As I've said before, if I had seen the truck before buying, I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT IT. I asked about a specific area of rust and was told it was not there.
