Website goes down, making it difficult to do my homeworkWebassign often goes down. A number of months ago it was so bad that it wasn't working for days on end and my teacher often had to extend homework for a few days to allow people to do it. They claim to have resolved the problems. But that is simply not true. Right now, for example, I'm trying to go on Webassign to do my homework, but the website isn't loading. About a week ago the same thing happened. And it's not like we're not paying a lot. It's approximately $90 per semester. I use another homework website for my physics, it's about a third of the price, and it hasn't gone down even once since I started using it in August (last semester). It's really quite unacceptable. Desired SettlementWhile I checked refund, I'm not asking for a full refund. Not even close. However, I'm requesting some type of compensation for the inconveniences of when it goes down. Especially considering the premium price. But more importantly, it needs to stop going down. It's kind of crazy.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted] ManagerContact Email: [redacted]@webassign.netGood day and thank you for bringing this to our attention. You are correct that we did have a major equipment issue that caused intermittent problems in September 2013. That problem has been resolved. I am unsure of the dates you experienced these outages recently. I know that our data center lost a fiber line and there was a 6 hour outage, but other than that date we have not seen any outages reported. I can certainly discuss remediation with you. I would need some information to locate you in our records. We can continue through Revdex.com or feel free to email me directly with your user name and school.Thank you[redacted]WebAssign Support Manager

Forced to purchase services that are not wanted.I am forced to use this horrible service called web assign this semester for a Physics class I am taking at[redacted]. I have contacted customer support because I do not wish to purchase an ebook with access to my homework. I can't use ebooks because of certain medical issues. The customer service representative informed me that they cannot offer discounts for any reason. I am not asking for a discount I am asking to provide access to homework alone and not the ebook. I find it interesting that for the same text book I have to purchase a high school student pays significantly less and they have the option to purchase homework alone. This is because web assign knows that the college students have to use their service so they are intentionally holding our homework hostage behind a false pretense. I wouldn't be so upset about this be customer service was rude to me and they are forcing me to purchase an ebook that I can't use because it causes severe migraines and eye strain when I read the ebook.Desired SettlementI am asking you to provide the college students the same ability to access homework alone without forcing us to utilize unwanted content, at the same price as high school students.Business Response First, please let me apologize for the answers you received. It should have been explained that we do not control the bundles as they are a contractual obligation with the publisher of the textbook. For your difficulties in receiving a reasonable answer, I have granted you access to the course without fee. I hope that this makes up for the issues you have faced.Thank you[redacted]WebAssign Support ManagerConsumer Response [redacted],Thank you for the timely response. I now understand the problems that your company faces with their contract. And I accept and appreciate this resolution. Thank you,[redacted]Final Consumer Response

This company advertises the sale of a "lifetime access" to e-textbooks. You may only access these textbooks while enrolled in a college course.Problem Date 08/22/2016Purchase Date 05/31/2016Payment Amount $134.72 USDPaid with VISA credit card in an online transactionWhen paying for an online textbook with homework access through this website (which is required by the course instructor) the customer is given two options:"Lifetime of Edition access to homework and eBook - BEST VALUE!$125.00" "Single-term access to homework and eBook -$94.00"The issue with this is that the Lifetime of Edition access to homework and eBook really is only for the Lifetime of the course, meaning that when you are not actively enrolled in a course using the same textbook AND edition of said textbook, you cannot access these materials. This Lifetime of Edition is misleading, a more appropriate claim would be Multiple Term edition.Desired SettlementI think that this business is putting an undue amount of researching on the customer to define "Lifetime of Edition". Common sense would dictate to the consume a Lifetime of access. I just want to make sure that time and financially stressed students do not make the same purchase when it is really not the best value. I would ask that the business would change the wording of advertising this package.Business Response Customer contacted us via our webform on 8/22 informing us of this issue. Our policy states that "Lifetime of Edition" purchases remain current when accessing the materials through the same account the purchase was made through and the textbook in question has not changed. We issued a refund for her second purchase and made an exception to our policy and granted her access to the course through a second account she had created as as a customer accommodation. We replied to her original request on 8/30 and confirmed she has access to her online homework. We have taken note of her comments regarding the verbiage on the website.

WebAssign's online service did not function properly. Because of that I failed a class, and they will not refund their portion of the cost.WebAssign's servers would be down almost every time I did my homework online. They gave excuse after excuse and never announce times they would down or give a time when they would be fixed. Because they were always down during times (the only times) I had to do my homework, I could never complete my homework. I ended up dropping the class because I got so behind. Now I have to pay for that class, and the book and "webassign" access. I have asked WebAssign to refund their portion of that cost because it was their poor service and lack of vision that I was not able to complete my homework. After asking, I was told it "wasn't an option", nor did they offer any kind of restitution. I had tried to even do my homework at different times (I'm very limited because I work full time.) On two separate occasions I tried to do my homework on lunch...they were down almost the entire time I was trying to access, therefore I was not able to complete homework...again. I simply ask that they refund THEIR PORTION of the cost...I am not asking they pay for the class, or the book, simply the portion of the cost of the book that is deemed to be "WebAssign access"...thank you.Desired SettlementThe book in question that I had to purchase for the class is [redacted], 6th edition. The book new lists for $266.95 at the [redacted] website (this is the bookstore at the college) therefore their portion is 28.40. Adding to that the undue stress and amount of time I have had to expend on this process, I feel that a settlement of $150 is more than fair.Business Response WebAssign has indeed suffered outages this semester, during those times of day when student demand is at its highest. We apologize for having caused stress. While the Terms Of Use on our site (agreed to by all users in advance, by their use of the site) explicitly disclaim any warranty whatsoever, we do recognize the unprecedented impact this has had. We have recently partnered with [redacted] Learning on a refund program, and we will email the appropriate form to [redacted].Consumer Response Company did not submit a refund offer that was adequate. They simply do not care about their customers.I recently filed a complaint with you against this company. (#XXXXXXXX) They sent me an offer that was approximately $90. I then got another email from someone with a company called [redacted] Learning. She is now telling me that they will send me a refund check for $20. This does not even cover the cost of their portion of the software/book cost. (see previous complaint) I'm not sure what I can do at this point...it isn't enough of an issue to hire a lawyer, but I do want them to be held accountable for their lack of care for the end users of their product. I hope there is something you can do...thanks for your previous help, and for your help in the Again, as I stated in the previous complaint #XXXXXXXX, I simply ask that they refund THEIR PORTION of the cost of the book/software bundle, in the amount of $28.40. Though I still feel justified, even more so now that I have had to spend additional time fooling with this, that a settlement of $150 is still fair.continuing problem.Business Response We emailed [redacted] to ask for details on the unsatisfactory $20 offer he got from [redacted] Learning, but we have not heard back. If he did not receive the email, he should call us at XXX-XXX-XXXX .

I purchased a lifetime of edition access code for taking calculus. now in final semester of course and they say it isnt valid anymorei purchased the code in january of 2014 for my calculus course. calculus is a 3 term course that uses the same textbook. they offer single term access or lifetime access, I purchased the latter. I was allowed access for the first two terms, but now they say that it is no longer valid. I will now have to purchase another code so that I can do homework and take quizzes online. Desired Settlementsince I will have to purchase access this week, I want a refund for this.Business Response [redacted] did not actually purchase a Lifetime Of Edition ("LOE") access code good for multiple terms; he bought a single-term access code, at a lower price than LOE codes. The photo he sent us of his code's packaging states that his access comes with "some or all" of a list of features, among which is LOE. The package he bought included some of those features, but not LOE. WebAssign sells its codes to publishing parters, who print and sell their own cards on which our codes appear. [redacted], the publisher in this case, chose to use one card for all the codes they purchase from us. We encourage our partners to be clear in their sales channels about which codes include what, but we cannot control this. As a backup, we provide an Access Code Prefix Check tool on our website. Here is the information we display for [redacted]'s access code....https://www.[redacted]Included on that page is the statement, "The access code beginning with [redacted] is valid for one semester or quarter."A semester ago, a WebAssign agent granted an additional term's access to [redacted], even though he'd previously used his single-term card. This was a one-time exception that, arguably, should not have been made.If any of the above information was not conveyed clearly by WebAssign, we apologize.

Even though product(access code)states lifetime of edition, they are making me pay for the same product twice.I took Math for Social Sciences ([redacted]) in the Spring semester of 2015 at [redacted]. I had to withdraw, but the cardboard that the access code comes with specifically states: "Lifetime of Edition means: You are allowed unlimited access to WebAssign courses that use this edition of this [redacted] textbook at no additional cost. This allows you to retake the course until you pass, or to take a multi-term course at no additional cost." Well it is now the fall semester of the same year. I am taking the same class, which requires the same book and WebAssign. I contacted customer service about helping me transfer the access code to my new account and she stated that she couldn't because although the book has the same name and same author according to their computer system it is NOT the same book. They seriously expect me to pay $101.00 for the same thing again. I want them accountable for the Lifetime of Edition statement. They are making me pay for the same product twice.Original access code bought: [redacted]New access code forced to purchase:[redacted]Desired SettlementAs I am already in class, and homework assignments are due, I have no choice but to purchase this product again. Honestly, the government paid for it through [redacted]. However, as I would be upset about paying for this again after the product itself states that I wouldn't have to, I am equally upset about this company taking my government's money in paying for another access code. I want this money returned to them as I would want it returned to me if I had personally paid for it out of pocket.
