Our families have used Wedington Animal Hospital for years with our animals On June the 1st at 8:pm, we called Wedington as we had an emergency with one of our dogs He was choking and could not breathe- he was gasping for air When we called and expected to be told come now (we live miles from the hospital) we were told that we would have to travel to Springdale Emergency clinic (minutes away) We reiterated that our dog was NOT able to breathe and still they stated a vet would not be able to see him Our sweet pup of only years (and our year old's best friend), did NOT make it, he had a severe heat stroke caused by not being able to breathe (pant) and cool himself down over the twenty minute drive to Springdale from Farmington Our family is devastatedWhen I called Wedington this morning and told them that our pup had died I was put on hold for DrHto get on the phone DrHgave his condolences for his passing He stated that his tech did receive the call Saturday evening about our pup, but he was just too tired to see another patient This was a dire situation in which our dog could NOT breathe...this was not a broken leg or some other emergency that could be passed on to the Springdale Emergency Clinic He stated that since he increased hours at the clinic, his other vets were promised to not have to be on emergency call and he was the only one doing it and had worked hours that week (so did I!) and was just too tired He also told me that the drive to Springdale made no difference in whether our dog would have made it or not, which we were told by the gracious vet we dealt with in Springdale that had our baby had oxygen pushed sooner he might not have had the heat stroke-therefore would have not died and could have had the surgery to correct the paralization in his throat! Our family is devastated and our year old was inconsolable when she found out her Best Friend was goneWe will no longer use this clinic/"emergency" hospital for any reasonAnd I pray that this unfortunate and preventable tragedy does not happen to another family
