.Mazda’s owner’s manual for a cxpage 6-states: recommended oil, NOT requiredStates: recommends *** oil brand, NOT requiresIt states: Only use 0w-oil certified for gasoline engines by American Petroleum Institute (api)This is a statement to use oil certified by the American
Petroleum InstituteThe federal mandated Magnusson-moss act states that a manufacture may not require a specific brand or type of oil unless they provide it free of chargeWe offer semi-synthetic 5w-oil changes and 0w-synthetic oil changes.*** *** can in on July for an oil change and brought in a coupon for a Soil change.Coupon states synthetic oil at extra charge.*** *** chose to do the oil change at $21.95.In I spoke with Mazda corporate about 0w-oilPer the Magnusson-moss act they can only recommend not require oil0w-oil costs a lot more than 5w-oilI wanted all the facts for my customers on what is required for their Mazda5w-is approved for Mazda’sI attached a 0w-synthetic FAQs sheet.5w-oil performs the same as 0w-It will not void your warrantyThe other dealership does not know the Magnusson-moss act, or called Mazda about 5w-oil.I want my customers to have all the facts so they can make a decision that works best for them financially as well as maintenance wise. Thank you

As you mentioned early, we told you your car came with synthetic oil from the factory, it is used to try to get optimum fuel economy, and we informed you that you can use semi-synthetic 5w-20 oil which is up to Mazda’s specifications. We are not trying to trick people into using 5w-20, we are trying to give people choices.Semi-synthetic 5w-20 oil is approved and up to Mazda’s specifications. As the paper work from Mazda’s corporate states, if you don’t use 0w20 you will not damage your engine.I would like to keep you as a customer, you did 3 oil changes with Wellesley Mazda, and I will give you 3 free 0w-20 oil changes. We would love to keep you as a customer.

The mentioned service special coupon says "Change Motor Oil per specifications". As an average consumer I don't have to be aware of difference between synthetic vs. standard oil, but when I see / hear the statement like the just quoted one ("...per specifications..."), I - as well as many others - would expect that this is what is recommended by the manufacturer. Otherwise, I would expect an explicit note that the mentioned specifications are not in sync with the manufacturer recommendations, and at least part of what is in the specifications is *not* really recommended by the manufacturer. I had no any knowledge regarding oil types and I completely relied on the dealership. Again, for me - as well as for any other average consumer - a phrase "per specification" looked reliable enough, so that I did not feel there is a need to conduct additional analysis. However, in reality, behind this phrase there was the product which is not recommended by the manufacturer.Hope, the above explains why I'm not willing to accept business response.
