Wells Home Improvements and Seamless Gutters Reviews (%countItem)

Windows on back of home not wrapped correctly (weep holes were covered and then notched to correct issue). Cupola installed incorrectly and damaged.
During the job I noticed the weep holes on the windows on the back of our home (13) were being covered up by windows wrapping (aluminum). I brought this to Mr*** attention and he then had workers notch out /cut out the covered weep holes and slather caulk in an attempt to make the notch job look aesthetically pleasing. After bringing this to Mr*** attention the rest of the windows on the home were completed correctly.
The supplied cupola that his workers installed was not installed correctly according to manufacturers instructions and now leaks in and around the cupola. It was installed in such a way (screws driven in too far) that I cannot remove the top to repair. Also when the old cupola was removed the existing shingles were damaged and not replaced. Spare shingles were provide but not used. I brought this to Mr*** attention and he states his workers did nothing wrong. He did not even inspect the completed installation or inspect the problems were are having.
I can supply all supporting documentation (pictures, text messages, and emails) supporting my complaint.

Desired Outcome

Replace wrapping around windows that have notched weep holes. Repair and install cupola correctly and replaced the few shingles around cupola that are leaking.

We were hired to install metal trim coil over existing windows that were already existing. Some of the windows were installed differently than others resulting in us installing the metal according to how the windows were originally installed. When we are hired to wrap windows, we do not include removing windows and modifying frame work, we were hired specifically to wrap the existing windows with trim coil. If every window was installed originally identical, than every window would have been wrapped identically. It is professional practice to caulk the exterior of the windows when they're finished being wrapped with trim coil. The windows on the rear of home was originally installed differently than the windows on front of home. At the start of job, I informed the homeowner that we could install the coupela they provided but we could not warranty a material that we did not fabricate. Documents were provided to us by client In which We used to install the coupela. A few months back the home owner informed Us VIA text that he had gone up on the roof and tried changing the direction of the weather vane and stripped out the screws. Shortly after we received a complaint about the coupela leaking. We installed this over a year ago, and never had a issue until the homeowner went on the roof messing with it. If the shingles were damaged at time of coupela install, it would have leaked soon after. Furthermore, we did install copper flashing on his chimney, along with changing all pipe boots and giving his roof a much needed tune up ,it would have been very simple to add a few more shingles if it needed while being up there if they needed to be, If you look in the photo of the screws in the top of the coupela it shows the screws are in fact, NOT sunk too deep in fact you can see clearly how the screws are 1/2 way out where the homeowner stripped the heads trying to move his weather vane. After the job was completed homeowners and I walked around on two separate occasions and reviewed the work performed. After walking around everything was noted satisfactory. I had no issues until the homeowner tried moving his weather vane and expected us to come there and fix his mistake. I have all photos of the job a t completion as well as documents confirming the job was completed satisfactory.

Mr. Wells was a little economical with the truth, in response to my complaint, and regarding the events that took place, during the job Wells Home Improvements and Gutters was contracted to perform, on our home at***, North Carolina. Here's an outline of our response:

A. Window wrapping - They (Wells Home Improvements) were hired to wrap our windows in trim coil. All of the windows on the back of our home, were wrapped in such a way, that the weep holes were covered, and then later notched out (sloppily), with a utility knife. They were slathered in adhesive (caulk) in what I'm assuming to be an attempt, to make that aspect of the job look aesthetically pleasing. It didn't work, as it is not aesthetically pleasing (see pics). Mr. Wells was not present during the wrapping of the back windows, and he did not show back up on the job site, until I brought to his attention, and shared that his crew had covered the weep holes on the back of our home. Then, the windows that had the weep holes covered by trim coil, were notched out. Important to note, that after I brought this to Mr. Well's attention, the remaining windows on our home, were wrapped in such a way, that metal trim was installed below the weep holes, and no notching was required. Those windows, are aesthetically pleasing. The windows on the back side of our home, are not. The actual windows on the back of our home, appear level, and also appear to be installed correctly. I can see no evidence, that the windows on the back of our home are installed incorrectly. Maybe the curvature of the earth is any different on the back of our home, than on the sides, and on the front (where the trim coil was installed properly - sarcasm intended). To reiterate, the problem was that the metal trim, was bent from the bottom, up too far, and it covered the weep holes on the back windows (please see text pdf page and the enclosed pics). Mr. Wells was adamant this was how it had to be done. I beg to differ, because again, once I brought the issue to his attention, all other windows on the sides and front of our home, were wrapped without covering the weep holes. My wife and I both, pointed this out to Mr. Wells, on more than one occasion, and he would not remedy the installment to our satisfaction.

B. Cupola - The cupola was installed 12/11/19 (see page 23 of text pdf), not "over a year ago" as Mr. Wells reports. I contacted him 6/21/20 informing him that the cupola was leaking into the garage. The next day I went on the roof, and sent him photos of the items that did not concur with the manufacturer's installation instructions. The statement in which Mr. Wells reports "A few months back the home owner informed Us VIA test that he had gone up on the roof and tried changing the direction of the weather vane and stripped out the screws." This statement is a little deviation of the truth, as well.
Yes, I did send him a text to inform him about the leaking from the cupola installation, along with pictures that depicted the incorrect installation. I do not recall stating I was trying to change the weather vane (see page 37 of text pdf). Furthermore, I have reviewed all texts, emails, and the job estimate, and I cannot find anywhere wherein Mr. Wells states they would not warranty the installation of the cupola (see estimate). The pictures Mr. Wells is referring to, about the screws being out halfway, is yet another deviation from actual facts. The pictures clearly show the screws sunk in (see page 40 of text pdf and photos). In the pdf of texts, there are pics clearly showing faulty installation. I can also produce installation instructions from the cupola manufacturer.

C. Summation - Nothing was said in writing, text, email, or verbally, that the job was satisfactory, by my wife, or myself. In fact, I sent several emails and texts, stating that we were concerned regarding the job. Mr. Wells was not present until I pointed out problems, and then he started asking us for money (money was not due until completion). (see page 29-32 text pdf). He was not present for the cupola installation either, and again, did not show up, until I brought the back-windows-weep-hole-situation to his attention. I can produce emails, texts, and pictures that clearly communicate, we were not pleased with the job, and that we shared those sentiments, with Mr. Wells.

We paid Mr. Wells at the time, because we thought it would be best to avoid further escalation.

Yes, Mr. Wells has photos of the job taken at "completion." The photos are taken from a distance, and do not provide a complete and accurate depiction of the job. The "documents" he is referring to, is a handwritten receipt, for the cash we paid him (see receipt).

My wife also has numerous emails to Mr. Wells, which crosswalks with pictures, reflecting all aspects of the job we expressed concerns about. She too, has text messages, which reflect we NEVER told Mr. Wells, we were satisfied with the job. If you desire to see all of that additional correspondence, we would be happy to provide it.

Wells Home Improvement did a fantastic job replacing the entire roof on my house in ***. Jim was always available to take any questions I had, and he responded promptly to messages. His work is the best you will find, and he backs it with a warranty. I will recommend Wells Home Improvement to all my friends in the Carolina area.
