West Chester Foreign Car Reviews (1)

Review: On 5/28/2013, I took my vehicle to West Chester Foreign Car, LLC located on [redacted]. Anyone who is thinking of getting your car worked out with these crooks. Upon arrival I met with [redacted]. I explained to [redacted] that for about the last week, I am noticing that the car is making a clicking sound and wanted his establishment to diagnose the origin of sound and what, if any, issues were occurring with my vehicle. [redacted] took the vehicle into his garage and asks me to have a seat while he looks at my vehicle. Approximately 2 hours passed, and [redacted] came into the waiting area and stated he took the idler belt. Off. He stated that he removed the idler belt that operates on a pulley and goes around the water pump and the idler tensioner, and he could see that my water pump needed to be replaced and that it was the cause of the clicking noise. His suggestion was that although it wasnt completely gone, but I should look into getting it replaced. He then went back into his office for another 2 hours to change my super charger fluid and check my timing. One complete I paid him 118.00 for parts and labor. We shook hands and thanked him for his time and service. I walked back to my vehicle and I was not more than two blocks from the shop I heard a large POP and I immediately pulled over to see what could be the problem. I opened the hood of my car and the idler belt that the [redacted] told me he had removed had broken and it had twisted itself around the water pump and the pulley. I immediately called [redacted] at the shop and he came right down the street where I was stranded on the side of the rode. [redacted] took me back to his shop in his car, while he had my car towed back to his shop. [redacted] assured me that he would fix whatever just broke and he would order whatever is needed and you can pick the car up the next day. I agreed and again thanked him for his time. I placed a call to a friend who I paid $20.00 to pick me up and take me home. On 5/29/2013, [redacted] called to inform me that my car was finished and I could come pick it up today. I called my friend, who I paid $20.00 to take me back to get my car from West Chester. [redacted] handed me the invoice to review and to my surprise he had charged me for 2 belts; Serpentine belt, a super charger drive belt and a drive belt idler pulley. He even had the audacity to charge me $60.00 bucks for the damn tow. I asked him to explain the charges; he stated that since he is partially the blame for the belts breaking, we should share the responsibility. I asked him why I should be responsible at all for these cost, he stated and I quote, You own the car. I was so irate, but I really did not have time to explain to [redacted] how stupid that sounded and how he was in the wrong for not only charging me for something that he broke and how he had the nerve to then charge me 60.00 bucks for tow back to his shop 2 blocks away. I had to pick up my sons prom suit and run other errands and did not have the time to argue. I paid the man 215.91 and I left. On 6/7/2013, I was running errands and getting things for my sons graduation party. I noticed walking out of a local store that something was hanging from my engine area under my car. Upon further inspection, it was a piece of one of the belts that was just replaced on 5/29 by [redacted] at West Chester Foreign CAR. I called the shop and [redacted] answered, I told [redacted] that it appears that one of the belts he had replaced less than a week ago, was broke and hanging under my car. [redacted]s response was, it is probably your water pump that broke it. Come on man, really. He had yet to see it, but his response immediately was the water pump and hung up the phone in my ear. I couldnt believe it, did a so called professional service just hung up like an angry 3 year old, in my ear and when I tried to call be he would not answer the phone. I am done with these auto mechanics thinking that they can charge whatever and treat their customers like st and get away with it. I decided that I would hit these shady car mechanics where it hurts, their bottom line. I believe that unless we shine a spotlight on these dirty, shady car mechanics and the companies that employs them they will continue to treat us their bread and butter like st and get away with it. Not me I am done, I know how powerful social media is in todays global market, treat your customers like crap and the world will know.Desired Settlement: I would like to get a refund for the work that I had done on 5/28/2013, as well as cost for another belt because as of 6/7 my belt broke again, and I have to pay someone for parts and labor to replace the belt that was replaced by [redacted] at West Chester Foreign Car LLC.

Response:

The complaint I'm addressing is number 9574582 from [redacted].

On 5/28 the complainant was scheduled to have the specific service of changing the oil in his supercharger performed. Upon arrival, he asked to add an additional service of having a clicking noise looked at. I informed the gentleman that we were waiting for the dealership to arrive with the specialized oil for his supercharger and that they didn't have an exact ETA for us. While we were waiting for materials, I let the customer know that we'd take a look at his clicking issue. At no point did I leave the customer or his companion unengaged for any extended period of time, especially not for two hours at a stretch. During the diagnosis of the clicking noise, I removed the serpentine drive belts to examine the bank of pulleys. I found the water pump to have excessive play and recommended that be replaced. When questioned about the longevity of the faulty component, I assured that there was no way to know when it may fail completely. The customer declined the work stating that his other vehicle was currently being worked on at another shop. At no point did I take off an idler belt, as stated in the complaint. As soon as the materials arrived for his scheduled procedure, I completed the task in a timely manner and billed the customer appropriately. The customer called minutes after leaving, stating that the car had broken down right up the road, at which point I immediately left the shop to find him. Approximately seven (7) blocks away, not two (2) blocks away as stated in the complaint, is where I located the vehicle. I reassured the customer that if this was in any way a result of the work we performed, we would make it right. Looking at it on the street, I was unable to determine the root cause, aside from the inner serpentine drive belt being shredded and lodged in the outer serpentine drive belt. I then drove the customer and his companion back to West Chester Foreign Car, where he'd be better able to make arrangements for a ride (it was raining). The vehicle, being too far from the shop to be driven without an operable water pump was towed back late that afternoon. Once back at the shop, I was able to identify the issue being a broken idler pulley on the inner bank of pulleys, which had shredded the inner serpentine drive belt and subsequently wrapped itself in the outer serpentine drive belt, damaging that belt as well. I informed the customer of the situation having nothing to do with the work we performed. Feeling a degree of culpability in not giving him the opportunity to replace the unseen failing idler pulley, even though he deferred repairing something as important as his failing water pump, I additionally informed the customer that I would only charge him my cost on materials and conduct the labor for free the following day when the materials arrived. Upon delivery of the repair order to the customer, he proceeded to react in a most uncivilized manner; he refused to pay, yelled, and got belligerent. The cost of the materials are in line with what one would expect to pay for supercharged Jaguar parts. As is the towing fee - the service we use charges a flat rate to tow point to point within the borough, whether seven (7) blocks or the full mile. My partner and I, being too familiar with this type of behavior, having each worked in Upper Darby for a short time, withheld the key to the vehicle until the customer threw his credit card at us to take payment. On 6/7/2013, I received a call from this same customer, complaining of one belt starting to wear on the edge. At which time I calmly started to describe cause and effect regarding the possibility of the excessive play in the water pump pulley being the culprit. Before I could complete the statement, the customer reverted to belligerence and harassment, at which time I hung up the phone. The phone I was speaking to him on has a push button to hang up so, I'm not sure how a 3 year old would hang up one like that in his ear? As far as not answering his other attempts at calling, I'm not sure he was ringing our line, as we answer every call that comes in.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks for your time,

Sincerely
