I am rejecting this response because:First of all, the representative from BAR agreed that West Coast Muffler put the wrong part number, My car has 185,as of todayAs I have mentioned in my complaint I went to west coast muffler for a muffler job somehow I was convinced by *** that I need a new converterI will not tell them to replace the converter if they did not suggest it because my number one reason I went there was only to replace the muffler, actually he put a used muffler the same muffler that he was trying to sell me but I told him I wanted a new one because it was already rustedI went to get lunch while they were working on my car and I saw the same muffler that he was showing me when I came back to lunch already installed! Should I come back to their shop when I discover that they put the wrong part? I don't think soYes they can say that customer service is their priority, it doesn't mean anythingI will be hit again the second time if I would have come backThey are not saying the true fact like for example, the mileage on my car is way exaggeratedI have the cat converter that they installed in my car and that will be the number one exhibitI can prove that they are incompetent and dishonest

Review: On June 24,2014 I went to West Coast Muffler in Citrus Heights,CA for a muffler replacement. The technician looked at the catalytic converter and suggested that I need a new catalytic converter as well, the owner, [redacted], took a look also and agreed with the technician, without even testing the converter if it really need to be replaced.I was able to register my car that year without any issue. This year in Aug 2015 my car is due for smog check. The car failed three times and came out as "gross polluter". I told the smog technician that I had the catalytic converter replaced a year ago, it should not have failed. The smog technician took the part number and researched it on the California data base, after almost an hour the smog technician told me his findings, The catalytic converter that West coast muffler installed was for cars that has dual cat converter! no wonder it wont pass smog. How could they make a mistake like that if its not intentional, the part number will always tell which car it will fit. I have sent a demand letter to the owner [redacted] I have spent $1,259.64 for unnecessary repairs and three failed smog check I'm charging $2,000.00 for consequential damages. a representative of West Coast Muffler called me yesterday and was trying to settle for $250.00, the cost of the wrong part installation. I told her that I'm considering filing for legal action. They did not even put the part number on the work order that is a clear indication that they knew I will have to come back again to their shop cause it will not pass smog and hit me again one more time. West Coast Muffler should be investigated for their unscrupulous business practices and if found at fault for negligence should be fined to the max.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of all three failed smog, penalty for late registration, fuel kit, and the cost of unnecessary repair and replacement of catalytic converter plus consequential damages for a total of $3259.64

Response:

Revdex.com Serving Northeast California This letter is in reference to the complaint made by, [redacted], on 12/1/2015. West Coast Muffler makes customer service our #1 priority. When Mr. [redacted] arrived on 6/24/2014 he had a rattle in the exhaust system. We went over the exhaust system together with Mr. [redacted] and he decided to replace the catalytic converter, pipe and muffler. We used the 2013 Magnaflow California Pre OBDII catalog, page 167, and determine the part #. The catalog referenced a rear cat [redacted] which was what we installed. The California Air Resource Board updates their listings with a new application regularly. This is common in California for ARB to update miscues. If Mr. [redacted] would have returned to our shop, we would have installed the new listing at no charge. We were contacted by Agent [redacted] from The Bureau of Automotive Repair to verify the issue. Per the BAR, they found there was no violation and there was no fine. Catalytic converters all do the same thing and could not cause the car to become a gross polluter. This will be stated in the BARs report. Customer service is our main concern and we have offered to refund the cost of the catalytic converter in the amount of $250. We are not responsible for the problems that your 1986 Mercedes had, with 242,000 miles on it. We fixed the original problem which was a rattle. Sincerely, Management [redacted]
