We are always honored when people select us to address repairs to their vehicles, especially when repair attempts elsewhere have been less than successfulBeing a long time Jaguar retailer we have the experience needed to advise owners toward successful repairs on older and higher mileage
vehicles. We do regret that there was a miscommunication at drop off, as well as a lack of updates in the timeframe the owner desired during these repairsWe check the key drop twice each morning, once when Ford service opens at 7am and again around 9:30am as a follow upIt seems likely the keys were dropped shortly after our first check that day.We diagnosed the concern and it was found that the plastic intake was damaged, possibly from a previous repair attempt elsewhereThe plastic manifold has threaded brass inserts that the intake plenum is bolted to, two of these were broken out of the plastic, and one insert was completely missingThese were adjacent to each other and allowed unmeasured air to enter the manifold causing an engine misfire as well as a Check Engine Light indicating a lean mixture conditionWe researched parts availability and found that even though the needed manifold was listed as obsolete, there was one (apparently the last one) available in the UKWe ordered the part, but it became overdue, when researched we were told that customs was preventing the part entering the USJaguar was never able to share any detail as to why the manifold was returned to the UKAt this point it became obvious that we would have to source a used manifoldWe usually shy away from recommending certain used parts as the effects of heat and age can compromise the quality of the part, plastic manifolds fall into this categoryAfter a discussion with the owner as to the shorter parts guarantee, a used part was secured and the repairs were completed on 5/20/The CEL and misfire concerns did not return during a mile road test and the owner picked the car up that dayThe owner presented a discount coupon at the time of pick up for $100, which we were happy to redeem. The owner paid the $ invoice and is back on the road. We understand the owner’s frustration as to parts availability and delays returning the car to roadworthy conditionThese X-Types are attractive and valued by many, that being said they are not always reliable daily transportation when they reach this age and mileage. It is our desire to build long relationships with our customers, to that end we will be sending MrSmith a “letter to purchase” for when he is ready to make his next vehicle purchaseThe letter will supply an additional $ discount off the final negotiated priceHe simply presents the letter after signing his best deal, and we discount the sale the additional amountPlease do not hesitate to contact me should you have additional questionsKeith *** Service Manager West Herr Jaguar
