Review: Estimator arrived at house to diagnose water leaking problem (water seeping from driveway adjacent to slab on grade house). Upon first noticing water meter was spinning, he then closed the isolation valve on the water heater in attempt to isolate leak. Water meter didn't stop spinning, so he then made assumption it was a cold water line leaking in the slab. Estimate was then verbally provided it would be an all day project, and cost approximately $1,500 to repair. Estimator was at house approximately 45 minutes. Later that same evening I (homeowner) wanted to check his findings, to discover the valve on top of the water heater was old and not shutting off water. What first raised concern was being in the process of renovating bathroom (bathroom gutted), the access hole through slab held "hot" water. Closing water heater isolation valve, hot water still ran freely at every fixture. Plumber originally scheduled repair crew for the following Monday. After taking day off of work, received phone call at approximately 10:00 AM that the person who was scheduled to do project, didn't show up for work. Plumber then asked to reschedule for the next day (Tuesday). Plumber & helper showed up Tuesday AM @ 9:30 AM. After discussing findings on hot water line (I replaced valve on hot water heater to confirm 100%), they quickly identified leaking hot water line as line running from master bath to guest bath. Crew measured for required materials, then left for supply warehouse (gone approximately 30 minutes). Upon returning, crew completed by-pass tie-in (which was completed very cleanly). The crew cleaned up their mess and was out of house at approximately 12:30 (3 hours start to finish). Contractor charged me $1,260 for project. I asked for itemized invoice to support payment (which I regrettably already paid). Upon receiving invoice, the Contractor reflected 2 hours for estimator @ $90/hour; and 5 hours for repair crew @ $180/hour (also included $180 for materials (approximately 70 ft of pex pipe and two tie-in connections). When questioned about inaccurate hours on invoice, the Contractor's justification was I was quoted $1,500 for a project and should be happy I only had to pay $1,260. I am also looking into filing a report with Revdex.com.Craftsmanship and professionalism of plumbing crew was great; however, disappointed with disregard for my time missing work, and very disappointed with the justification on billing me $1,260 for a project that several others have suggested should have been almost half of original estimate ($700-$800). Using accurate times and the reflected itemized rates, total should have been $810!!Desired Settlement: Some or all of reasonable difference between $1,260 charged and calculated $810 should have been charged.
