Honda of Annapolis used a series of tricks and lies to lure my business into their dealership, which resulted in a horrible car shopping experience.
On Thursday, July 3rd, my family made the decision to pay a visit to the dealership after speaking to a sales representative, [redacted] and confirming that the car of interest (Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L) was there and still listed at the Internet advertised price of $29,176. So I printed out the advertizement and we made are way over to the dealership. Much to our surprise, shortly after arrival, [redacted] informed us that the car in question had 'just been sold' and that it was obviously no longer available. That should have been where we politely got up and left....

He then went on to explain how there is a tremendous disconnect between what is advertised on the Dealership website and that of [redacted] vs what is actually there, which I find amazing...blaming this on a 'timing issue'. In true sales fashion, he immediately attempted to remedy the situation, offering that he would be able to procure another Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L, but was unable to advise within a reasonable range when it would be available. But of course, we could certainly discuss the numbers and put down a deposit. How convenient for us.....

The excuse he offered here was that the dealership was unable to track these vehicles and provide an estimated delivery time once it leaves a Honda Factory. He gave a range of any where between 2 to 4 weeks, yes, weeks! In this day and age, where we are able to track an envelop of mail to an exact date and hour, I find it extremely hard to believe that Honda isn't able to provide better estimates on their vehicles. Is the customer led to believe that 1) Honda is incapable of tracking their assets?, which I'll be sure to inquire with a corporate contact OR 2) that the representative at the dealership truly does not possess the training or education to properly inform? This should have proved once again that this experience could only get worse...

Then [redacted] offered to discuss numbers. He presented a sheet that had a starting price of $39,176. Yes, ten thousand above what was originally listed! And that abruptly concluded this ordeal.

These horrible business practices of Honda of Annapolis need to be exposed to the public on a grand scale.

I've also contacted cars.com, which is the site that advertised this sale to inform them, that the vehicle of interest is still listed on their site and has NOT been sold, as originally stated by the salesman, [redacted] informed me that they would also look into this matter further, as they do not have an interest in advertizing for businesses that conduct themselves in this nature.

What I find most disappointing is how a dealership is able to advertise/list a vehicle at a certain price and its availability, wait for you to arrive and then proceed to blatantly lie to your face over and over again.

My main concern now is to obtain all necessary information as to what I can do to prevent this from ever happening again, as well as what disciplinary actions will be taken against this dealership.
