We picked up Mr. [redacted]'s truck for him and brought it up to our shop. we needed to test to see if the injectors or the motor was bad. You do not put injectors in a bad motor. No one in our area test these injectors. Cat will not release any specs/...

procedures or tools. They want to keep all work in house. We had to find where we could buy a compression tester adapter for this motor. We finally found there is no compression adapter tester made for this motor. For this motor they use a blow-by test (Manometer) and a chart that relates to the size of the motor and how much power it produces. We had to order that tool and chart. It cost us $800 to get the tool and chart. The customer was not charged for that. It is a tool that we will probably never use again. We received the tool and chart. We found the motor to be in "specs" for blow-by. Priced out parts and labor. Called the customer with the total cost. Most customers pay the parts cost up front and we collect the rest owing when the vehicle is delivered or picked up by the customer. This customer wanted to write one check only, so we collected all costs upfront. Pulled the old injectors out and delivered them as core and picked up the new injectors. During the time period, two of our techs came down with a bad strain of Mono and one of those techs broke his foot and required surgery. One of the other techs was arrested for a technical violation of his probation and spent three weeks in jail. The sick tech that did not break his foot, Grandmother who he cared for was taken to the hospital, then skilled nursing  home and died. He was caring for her, her four cats and her house. His doctor allowed him to work three hours a day. This left us with a 73 year old office lady. We had 38 vehicles that needed repair. We called customers, asked for their understanding and worked as fast as we could. If after 500 miles Mr. [redacted] had a problem with the injectors, he never informed us. There is a warranty for  labor and the injectors from the dealer at no cost to him. All warranties are to be performed in  our shop to sue the warranty. He never let us know so we were in the dark.We normally charge $140 for a pickup of a truck and $140 for delivery of vehicle. So $800 for a tool we will never use again and $280 for pick-up and delivery of the vehicle is $1080 the customer was not charged. When our tech delivered the truck, we gave the receipt to an employee there and apologized for the delay. It was something we had never incurred in years of business.
