Review: My daughter, Chloe [redacted], applied on line to take 3 credits this summer. She goes to the Univ of Delware and decided to take local classes in her home state. I received a letter from Western stating that her classes had been cancelled for non payment and that I had to pay a $50 cancelled due to non payment penalty, and to register would have to pay $100.In this recession this is highway robbery. Western is discouraging students from going to classes by adding all of these unnecessary and costly fees to their alreay skyrocketing college costs.I'm also sending this the atty general's office to look into these "fees" colleges are charging to students who just want to get registered and get a good education.*egards,[redacted]mother of Chloe [redacted]

On April 10th, the student registered for a summer online class and has a $50 balance due for the online fee, which is nonrefundable as established by the CSU BOR. This is also posted on the WCSU Cashier's Office webpage.

Since she never paid for the class, she was dropped for nonpayment on April 25th. The student is a nonmatriculated student and this is the first class she registered for at WCSU.

The student was not billed a re-registration fee as she was not re-registered for her class. Since the student is a new incoming student, we would have offered to waive the re-registration fee if she wanted to be re-registered.

As for the $50 balance due on her account, WCSU is following Board Of Regents policy regarding tuition and fees for students. It is not a cancellation fee, it's the fee for registering for an online class similar to the $55 registration fee for on campus classes.
