The patient presented to our urgent care center on 1/7/16 with right lower quadrant pain/tenderness.   Subsequent to this complaint, the patient's medical chart and care was reviewed by our Medical Director.  Upon review, we find that the patient was in the clinic for a total of two...

hours.  Because of her chief complaint and reason for visit, a blood draw was done right away and HCG and UA (urine analysis) were run immediately.  The results of the UA, along with the physical exam which detailed right lower quadrant tenderness with rebound, resulted in the medical provider being concerned enough about the stomach pain to instruct the patient to go to the ER, and the patient was instructed to go to an ER immediately for follow up.  The patient signed our hospital Transfer Form as well.  The medical provider recommended that the patient go via ambulance, however she refused and signed an AMA form (Against Medical Advice).  The risk to the patient of driving herself to the ER and not taking an ambulance could be a car accident (MVA) which could result in "death" - these words were listed on the AMA form which goes to the hospital/ER to simply reflect the potential risks to the patient for not following our recommendation for taking an ambulance to the ER and her choosing to drive herself there.  The word "death" did not reflect/pertain to anything else.  So upon review by our Medical Director of the care providing to this patient, it is determined that a thorough triage and work-up were provided, along with a competently thorough physical exam and comprehensive laboratory studies, which showed abnormalities which warranted immediate follow up with a hospital emergency room.   The care and treatment provided were robust and appropriate, so no refund will be offered.
