Western Van Lines Reviews (%countItem)

It is so sad I am writing a one star review. I chose this company for the 75 years experience and good reviews.
My items were picked up June 29th and I still have not received them. I called frequently since July 15th and have been told someone will call me back... no one EVER CALLED BACK. To make matters worse, when we asked why our items had not been on the road/delivered the only response we received was "We don't know ma'am. " ???? . Well into August we called again and again getting the same run around. At this point we were close to calling the police because as far as we knew - because no information was given to us - our stuff is lost or stolen. FINALLY TODAY, August 20th, I get a call saying my items will be delivered tomorrow and my balance is due. GREAT. But waiting 2 months and having to buy my husbands medical equipment/supplies because we couldn't carry it all on the plane - there needs to be an adjustment to my balance. After calling and having a rep tell me someone will call me... AGAIN.... I wait. Then I get a call from the rudest person I have ever had to speak to. Laura, the shipping manager. She not only speaks down to me, but interrupts me, and insults me. I could not believe my ears. Having a wealthy, long lasting company you work for and speaking to a dissatisfied consumer like that is COMPLETELY unacceptable. I don't let my nephew speak to me that way much less a Karen in charge. I am still attempting to get a hold of someone in a higher position. We will see how that goes but I am devastated at my experience with this company. Hire someone else and save your sanity! Go with a company who respects you if you request a solution to your complaint!

I have hired movers a handful of times and these guys are by far the worst. They will be professional in the initial phone call and lowball the other competitors on their estimate to get you to sign the contract. Then they will wring you for all you're worth. They are about as pro-consumer as the mafia. My sales rep, Josh L, promised a good deal, which it did sound like one. Then he calls the week of the move to try charging me more for stuff he didn't ask about in the first call. A week of? But I can't get refunded for my deposit that close to moving day, nor can hire another crew in that amount of time! Gotcha. I managed to argue enough to keep it low though. But, on moving day, the movers, hired contractors mind you, slapped me with a bunch of "you have too much stuff" fees. But I'm one person, how does someone with barely a full one-bedroom apartment's worth of furniture have too much stuff? Suddenly my $2500 estimate went to $4064. And that wasn't even the end of it. They were LATE on delivery about a week, and when the second pair of contractors showed up, they tried to charge $75 more for being on the second floor, something the company knew from the very beginning. THEN they told me the money order I had wasn't good because it wasn't a postal one. So I had to go cash my own money order which turned out to be $130 dollars so they could have cash. Of course, it was on a Sunday when the banks were closed. All things good ol' Josh L somehow forgot to tell me. So please, PLEASE read everything and read the reviews before hiring these guys. I was going to hire Bellhops because I had a good experience with them before, but L purposely lowballed their price knowing he was going to charge me an arm and a leg in the end. I had to dip into my savings and it will likely take through the new year to recover. If there is a 2020 embodiment of moving companies, it's these aes right here. Don't do it. You and your bank account will definitely regret it. The fact I'm going as far as to leave this review on the Revdex.com website should shocking.

Got a quote from Michael whom we were thinking of moving forward with until we choose another moving service to go with. When I later told Michael we are going with another company he called me a "dirtbag" and hung up the phone. Not polite at all and would certainly WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.

After living in Las Vegas for 6 years, I received a new post over to Denver and it was a move I really embraced. The problem was that living in Las Vegas can result in buying some designer furniture with your hard earned cash. I didn't want to leave them behind. I hired Western van lines because they gave me a very good quote. The labor on site was really impressive. They were very skilled, well trained and always very polite. I've moved a couple times before and these guys were the best so far. Definite thumbs up to their services.

The original man, Josh L that I spoke to has not once made himself available for 2 months. Doesn't pick his phone up, doesn't call back. I have wanted to ask him why he never told me about all the extra fees that are in the fine print on the email I was sent. I didn't know about the extra costs. That's what you should be aware of if you use this company, they charge extra per steps, footage from the truck to the front door or garage, elevators, they nit pick at every single little thing. I didn't know about this until the movers showed up, but I paid it anyway. I had no choice at that point. I asked for the 30 free days of storage, and in the middle of that, I get a call from the driver telling me he's going to deliver soon. I said hold on, I still have some time, I'm not ready yet. He told me he was in Texas and I'm in Tennessee, so he realized his mistake and said he'd call me in a week. Never called me and during that time drove to Georgia and dropped off my things there then continued on to Florida. I called him after my days were up to figure out where the hell he was. He said he was in Florida and would make his way to me, never once mentioning that my stuff was in Georgia. I get another email of a $200 holding charge, so I call the supervisor Laura. I tell her the mix up and it's not my fault he didn't call like he said and drove past me and didn't inform me that my stuff was in Georgia. I got that fee removed, and was told that I would get 24 to 48 hours notice before the new driver would get here. He calls me while I'm at work at 8:30pm telling me he's showing up the next morning between 8am-12pm, and calls me so many times that I finally answer only to result in me getting written up at work because I answered my phone. Didn't give me the notice o was promised and got me in trouble because he continuously tried to get a hold of me instead of just leaving me a text or voicemail, or waiting for me to call back. They show up and again ask for an extra $150 to take my stuff all the way up to the garage or instead they'd just drop my stuff at 75 feet and leave it for me to move myself. So inconsiderate, no heart, no care for the customer, no apology for making anything difficult, Laura says I'm the one being difficult to me on the phone. I'm over this. I'm upset, I'm shaking, and I hate this company. Worst moving company ever. Do NOT use them. Waist of your hard earned money.

I would give less Stars if I could. I was given a quote over the phone. The customer representative Josh, was very aggressive saying that the other moving companies were not good and would change a high price. He said that he would give us a better price than any other moving company. He insisted that we give him a deposit in order to lock in the price and the amount of our household goods that we could have delivered. When the movers came they only took a fraction of our household items. He said we were at our limit for the price we were given. We told him we agreed on the price and the items. The mover said that the person agreeing to take our household items didn’t inspect it by square footage. I stated that he didn’t mention anything about square footage just items. He told us how many large, medium and small boxes we could take as well as the furniture. The movers wanted a substantial increase in the price that was originally agreed upon. We tried to contact Josh L the company representative, but he refused to answer his phone or call us back in response to the numerous messages that we left. This was a scam, a setup, a trap, from the beginning. I had to pay twice the price that I had agreed to. I don’t know how many people this company scammed like this, but it has to stop. Once the items that they did deliver arrived many were broken, parts were missing there wasn’t enough movers, and they couldn’t and wouldn’t assemble most of the items.

I contracted a two-stop move from ***: one stop in Dayton, OH and the other at my home address in Washington, DC. *** Moving Company used Western Van lines as a subcontractor. Western Van Lines has 14 business days to deliver belongings before they have to compensate you daily. 14 business days was 07/27 and it is now 7/31 which is 18 business days. I have contacted Western Van Lines every day starting on 7/23 to find out a delivery window. Every day they have told me that they still do not have a driver to deliver my belongings and they are unable to give me a delivery window. I was told by Rus on 7/24 that a driver finishing a job in arizona will be assigned to deliver my belongings that following Monday 7/27. On Monday I was not contacted and I had to reach out to Western Van Lines and they told me that they still had not found a driver for my belongings. It is now 7/31 and I still do not have a driver for my belongings that are located in Missouri and I do not have a delivery window.

Western Van Lines Response • Aug 06, 2020

Per our conversation with this customer, their desired settlement has been appeased. Our goal is to deliver this customer in 7 days per their request.

It isn't a long way from Kansas to Oklahoma. So the question for me was really who would give me the most competitive quote. Western van lines did not give me the lowest, but gave me the most seemingly accurate and through estimate so I decided to hire them. I wasn't expecting them to be too good because the price was quite low. But they proved me wrong. Their men were very skilled and well trained. They looked like they had done it a thousand times before. I didn't have a lot of stuff. So the whole move went very quick and very smooth.

I have hoarded so much stuff that people call me crazy. But each and every piece means something to me. So when I moved from Seattle to Portland, I needed a moving company to be understanding of my feelings. Western van lines did just that. They were very respectful to my valuables. They carried every last piece out of my house and then carried them into my new home within the scheduled time. I am so grateful to them.

My elderly Mother hired Western Van Lines for her move from MN to Kansas City. The rep Marty gave her a very reasonable quote and told her "you have to watch out for these other companies that use 'contractors' to do the moving for them. The day the movers show up, (5 hours late) they tell my Mom that the price will be an additional $1700. They too were 'contractors' and not Western Van Lines Employees. Marty lowballed the bid to get my Mom to sign the contract. I called their "customer service" line and told them that we were very unhappy, misled and that if they didn't make this right, we would contact an attorney. Instead of calling us back to discuss the problem, they contacted the crew and told them to just return everything to my Mom's place and leave her without a moving company. My Mother complained that she had signed a contract and they could not leave her stranded like this...so the driver spitefully ripped the contract up in front of her and left.
I've heard that this business can be shady, have hidden costs, damages, delayed deliveries, etc. I've moved a couple times myself without incident...but this is unacceptable on every level and Westen Van Lines should be ashamed of themselves in not only misleading an elderly woman, but having the WORST "customer service" in the business.
You have been warned.

My opinion: This is likely one of the worst moving companies I have worked with. After the sales honeymoon when you are the top priority for them, the rest of the moving experience was terrible. There was no communication during the move when I asked for a status. I was left in the dark. The delivery took the longest within the last 21st day of the allowable delivery window. While this is allowed contractually, it just makes the worst moving experience ever. No one wants to contract with a company that will deliver your items at the very last possible time and keep you in limbo the whole entire time. When the deliver people came, they did a terrible job. For example, they left a treadmill fully packaged. They should have unpacked it and left it in a place that I desired. Then one item was lost or mostly likely stolen. When filing for claims, they say they will contact you within 7 business days. I called and they said someone will call you back, they never did. I finally got a response and claims will be processed within 60 days. Even though I have an upcoming 2nd coast to coast move, I will make sure I will never use this moving company again.

I hired Western Van Lines to move my belongings from Chicago to Tampa Bay. I was told by salesman Marty that I would receive my things within a few days of my "Eligible to Receive" date. My date for delivery was July 6th. In the fine print of the contract, it turns out Marty lied to during the initial consultation and that it may actually take up to 16 business days to deliver my things. Fine - my fault, I should have read the contract (shame on me for believing the salesperson would be honest with me). We're now on the 17th business day, there is no driver assigned to my belongings, they will not tell me where the belongings are so I could send a family member to go pick them up. I assume they are stolen, so I'm in the process of shopping for an attorney and then filing a police report.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely

price doubled. Pickup 5 hrs late delivery 7 days late

I am perplexed with the Revdex.com rating of Western Van Lines (WVL). The experience was horrible. The actual movers were courteous and efficient and showed up on-time but that is where the good experience ended. After that, good luck in determining where your furniture is and when you are going to get it. Do not believe what you are told ! In my opinion my sales agent (Adrian) used deceptive sales practices to get the business. While the actual agreement does say the move could take up to 14 days, I was told when booking that the move would only take about 2 – 5 days because it was only about 500 miles and very few contents. Four frustrating weeks later the goods finally showed up ….. one week beyond the estimated contract term and three weeks beyond what the agent told me. The worst part of the experience was their inability to provide any timeline ….. and this is if you are lucky enough to speak with a person as emails are not answered and voicemails are seldom, if ever, returned. Prior to the goods being picked up they would communicate ….. after pick-up, radio silence.
About two and a half weeks after the goods were picked up in NC and countless phone calls, I was able to get a live person on the phone who told me the goods were still in NC in storage !! I was then directed to dispatch (Jen) who told me the goods would be delivered in two – five days …… but two – five days came and went. I had to spend an additional $1,000 to make arrangements to receive the goods as a result of their missed commitment dates. To Jen’s credit, once I had her as a contact she was willing to communicate with me as best she could. Four weeks after they first picked up the goods they were finally delivered.
Read the other recent reviews both on Revdex.com and other places …. many had the same experience. Don't know if all moving companies are this unreliable but avoid WVL. If you could provide negative stars I would.

DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM. My things were DELAYED, BROKEN, AND MISSING. If I could do my move all over again, I would save myself SO much stress by never, ever using this company. A family member chose these movers for me and I so wish I had done my own research.
1. Delayed
My items were picked up on June 13. This was an interstate move across four states. The first available delivery date was June 17. Items sat in their Kansas City warehouse until July 17 and were finally delivered on July 20!!! I was without essential items in my new place for a full month. We were told it would be more like two weeks max, but that was an outright lie so we would book with them. Whenever I tried to call the person in charge of long distance moves (Laura) the phone would ring and go to voicemail. She never once picked up. I left many messages asking her to call me, the destination person - my name and number were in the file - but every time she called the number for the pickup person, who then had to relay the message to me. Then I noticed that when I called her number, I couldn't even leave a voicemail for her anymore - I would just get routed directly to customer service. Is this woman even doing her job?
2. Broken
The back of my tall bookcase got smashed in during the move, and the lids of two of my plastic storage bins got completely mangled. One cardboard box arrived ripped all down the side; most were smashed.
3. Missing
I had a leather loveseat (expensive when new - and the item/manufacturer is now out of business) and the two back pieces could be taken off for easier moving. Those back pieces are now GONE and Western Van Lines is making 0 effort to find them. I have half a couch now which might as well be no couch because it's non-functional without the back. Where could they have gone??? I am not holding my breath that they'll find them considering everything that's happened so far. I also don't think we'll get anything near the cost of a replacement back.

Long distance relocations are always tricky. Western van lines made that trip all the way from California to Colorado seem so easy. They do this for a living of course! I was quite a fussy customer but they dealt with me very cordially. I have to give it to them, they really know how to work magic with the services they offer. They employ very skilled men who truly know the ins and outs of the moving & storage industry. I gained a lot of respect for these men and Western during my move last week.

BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! Western Van Lines saved my life. I had to leave in a week and they picked me up IN THREE DAYS. They quoted me $7925 for my large three bedroom house. It took me awhile to complete the inventory list, but they informed me that my price goes off of my actual space in the truck, so I bit the bullet and got it done. On move day they stuck to their price and as I was thorough with my list. The were careful, kind, and respectful the entire time. I don't know what these other reviews are about because it really seems like their estimates are only as good as the information you give them (obviously). Anyway, I would highly recommend Western to all of my family and friends. Cheers!

TERRIBLE service. Bryan sounded great over the phone and promised a wonderful service but they called me the morning of my move across the country and told me that they wouldn't be able to move me because of my pickup location. Therefore, the morning of, I had to try to find a *** to load and move myself. Absolutely pathetic and disgraceful. This should have been determined and dealt with the day that I signed up for the moving service. They had access to GPS and maps and should have a clear route to determine whether they would be able to pick me up or not. And to call me the morning of my move and tell me that they couldn't pick me up is ridiculous and left me in a really bad situation. I would NEVER EVER recommend them to anyone. Do NOT trust them with any of the details they promise you. Find another company!

My wife has a phobia of relocation. She always gets nervous of the thought of having to pack up everything. It's probably because she is a dedicated hoarder and wants to leave nothing behind. When a better opportunity came, I had to move from Seattle, WA to Crystal City, TX. My wife became very worried about how to move with all the stuff we own. I called many moving companies and finally hired Western van lines to do the job. As it turned out, these guys took on the responsibility like pros. They were very organized, and paid attention to every little detail. We received the delivery from them in Texas right on schedule. This move couldn’t have been any easier.

I booked with them for my move from WA to RI. they picked up my belongings on the 18th of June, it is now the 14th go July and up until THE 13th they said my household goods are still in WA, they have not even began to transport my items. they have 7 business days left to book a driver load my things and drive them over 3000 miles. Every time I have called in the past I get told to call the next day or to call back in 3 days but still no change. today however I can't even get through, I try to call and it rings till I get the voicemail, I try to call again and then it goes straight to voicemail no matter how many more times I call. $3400 has already been paid for this move not including what's owed at delivery, I think I deserve to know what is happening with my personal household goods and when to expect them
