Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
-ON #5  no discussion took place to advise us about any safety concerns on having three procedures done on one day. The liquid nitrogen application could always have been applied with another procedure. Telling us infection issues is BOGOST.  We both work in hospitals and are very aware of safe practices to prevent infections and telling us that they could not protect [redacted] when multifple procedures are done is ABSOLUTELY INACCURATE!!!
-#7  Bothe [redacted] and [redacted] sat in his office and he CLEARLY stated that he had to MAKE A PROFIT TO PAY THIRTY EMPLOYEES.  We didn't just come up with that statement.
Action Plan:  We totally agree with there action plan that only correct information on insurance plan paymnet options be told to patients
We will not take further action, but we wanted say what actually happened on the above two numbers
Regards,
[redacted]

We called the patient and told them we would refund the $25.00 that was charged to their account.

 Re:
BBD ID. [redacted]
 We
have reviewed the complaint filed by one of our patients.  After reviewing this complaint, we found:
 1.
The
patient is correct regarding being misinformed.
2.
She
was informed the surgeries would take place on multiple days.
3.
When
she asked her provider, not the surgeon, why the surgeries could not be
performed at the same time, it was found that she was told that her insurance
plan would not pay for multiple surgeries that are performed on the same day.
4.
The
above statement was given to her in error as insurance companies do pay for
multiple surgeries done on the same day; however, the payments for the second
and subsequent procedures are paid at reduced rates.
5.
The
surgeon did not want to perform multiple surgeries in one day due to the
location on the body of the lesions being removed.  This decision is for patient safety and to
ensure that the surgeon has ample time to complete the surgery within the allotted
time.
6.
Regarding,
the accusation that “our entire staff was told to mislead patients”: this is
completely false and not based on fact.
This Practice has built an outstanding medical reputation for providing
quality and friendly medical services.
Our entire staff is dedicated to providing outstanding medical care to
all of our patients, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay.  We see many uninsured patients at a reduced
fee based on their financial situation.
We have also participated in the community’s free clinic.
7.
The
patient’s accusation of our scheduling multiple appointments in order to maximize
revenue is entirely inaccurate.  As you
are aware there have been many changes in health care over the years.  While physician’s ability was the number one
reason people chose their physician, this is down several places.  Patient’s waiting time ranks ahead of
ability.  The office visits and
procedures are scheduled based on reducing patient waiting time.  There will always be unforeseen circumstances
that may cause delays, but these should be the exception.  Regardless of this trend, the driving force
in patient treatment is the medical necessity and patient safety.  We do not and have not ever made decisions
based on revenue.

Actions Taken
 When
the patient’s husband was upset over the three copays being charged, we did
write off one.  In the best of
circumstances there would have been at least two surgeries.  The patient was told there would be three
surgeries.  They had the right to go for
a second opinion or another provider to have the surgery.  There was no complaint about the quality of
medical care received.
 We
notify all staff if there are questions regarding fees or scheduling, they
should be referred to the business office or office manager.
 We
did notify all staff that what was told to this patient is wrong and should
never be said because it is not the truth.

 We
have spoken to the employee who made this statement.  The employee is a good medical provider and
misspoke.

In
summary, this practice and its successor, has performed dermatological care in
this area for over forty years and have not had any serious complaints with the Revdex.com.  We have taken corrective action to ensure
this type of event never happens again.

Review: [redacted] was told that 3 dermatology procedures could not be done in one visit because insurance would not pay unless they were done on 3 separate visits. This led to three 150.00 copays rather then one.Insurance was contacted and said they always pay for 3 procedures at one visit, and it would be one 150.00 copay. They said the true reason Westgate wanted to do separate visits is because if they were done on one visit they would be cut 50% on plan payment for the 2nd and 3rd procedure.Upon visiting Westgate, we were told they did lie to us because they had to pay for "their 30 person staff some how"We found the entire staff was told to mislead EVERY PATIENT TO COME SEPARATE TIMES to gain revenue and cause increase cost to patients!!!!Desired Settlement: They finally cancelled the last copay for 132.55but we also wante the second copay refunded of $150.00.They failed in their fiduciary responsibility in honest billing practices!!
