Mr*** did call me to replace his windshield and I did suggest he go throw his insurance for the replacementHe said he want to pay cash out his pocket. When I got there and started disassembling the car, I stopped to show him the trim that had to come off was sun damagedThey were
dry, brittle and were cracking to the touchHe was told that they would need to be replaced and that if he bought new ones that I would come back out and put them on for no chargeHe gave the go ahead to do the job. A few day later he called and he said he did some internet forms searchingThe forms said it was a problem and he thought he should have been told that in the our phone callfrom the startWhile his wasn't the first *** *** that I have done, it was the first were the trem was so sun damagedSo I checked the forms and yes they talked about it and howtheir insurance companies paid to have them replaced, but remember Mr*** wanted to pay cash and didn't want a claim on his insurance record. Now Mr*** still has the ability to take his receipts to his insurance company and get reimbursed for the repairs. I would love to say I can make all my customers 100% happy everytime but i'm limited to somethings like the condition of what I have to work withAlsoto the fact that no one can know all the problems that the 1000s of different cars out there haveI have to stop in the middle of a repair and had the customer take it a paint and body shop, because of hidden problems that wouldn't allow a safe and quality repairMr*** was give options to fix and lesson he cost of repairs. Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.
I have read the business owner's response to my complaint. He says when I first called him about replacing my windshield, he suggested I go through my insurance company. This is not true. He never said anything about going through my insurance company. If he had, I would have told him I have a $500 deductible so my insurance company would not pay his $420 charge for replacing my windshield. He also states that I wanted to pay cash because I did not want a claim on my insurance record. Again, this was never mentioned in any conversation I had with this business owner. He says when he started to replace my windshield, he stopped to show me the trim pieces that had to come off were sun damaged, dry and brittle and were cracking to the touch. He showed me this after he had already broken the trim piece on one side of the windshield. He showed me how the trim was supposed to come off with a tool he had that he slid under the trim piece to pop the clips that held the trim piece on. He showed me this by using the tool on the trim piece that was still attached to the car on the other side of the windshield. Of course this other trim piece also broke when he used his tool to try and pop the clips that held it on. The car is only two years old, so I could not understand why the pieces would be sun damaged, dry and brittle. He told me I had to get new trim pieces from the [redacted] dealer and if I did not feel comfortable putting them on myself, that he would come back and put them on for me. After he installed the new windshield and left my house, I got on the internet and looked up how to replace a windshield on a [redacted]. It said you do not use any tool to pop the clips. It said you slide the piece up and it will come off. The clips stay attached to the car. To remove the clips attached to the car, you turn each clip one quarter turn and they will come out. No tool is required to remove the trim pieces or the clips. If he knew what he was doing when trying to remove the trim pieces, they would not have broken. In his response, he says I called him about internet forms searching and they talked about how their insurance companies paid to have them replaced. I have no idea what he is talking about. I called him and told him I did an internet search on how to replace the windshield on my [redacted] and that no tools were supposed to be used to remove the trim pieces. I did not say anything about reading that insurance companies paid to have these trim pieces replaced. When I went to the [redacted] dealer to buy the new trim pieces, they told me they could install them for me for $28. The total cost to buy and have the dealer install the new trim pieces was $330.55. Even if I did not have the [redacted] dealer install the trim pieces, it still would have cost me over $300 for the pieces. I sure wasn't going to spend that much money to buy the pieces and then call him to come and install them for me and take the chance of him breaking the new pieces. He says I still have the ability to take the receipts to my insurance company and get reimbursed for the repairs. Since my deductible is $500, I would still be out $250.55. Why should I have to file a claim with my insurance company when he is the one who caused the damage to my car because he did not know what he was doing? I would think this business would carry their own insurance to cover any damage they may cause to a vehicle they are working on. I do not expect this business to refund the $420 I paid to them for the new windshield, but I do expect them to pay for the $330.55 for my cost to repair the damage they caused to my car.
