It is standard and accepted practice in the propane business to not turn off gas service to a home without contacting the new owners first. If a tank is shut off, then the new owner is left without heat, hot water, cooking, or use of any other appliance in the houseTherefore the new owner would have to call a licensed technician to re-lite the pilots and perform a gas check on the entire system as required by law under the Propane Gas Association Code. Even if we had shut the tank off prior to the new owner moving in, the new homeowner would have still had to call us to turn on the gas and perform the necessary gas check as required by law. There is a standard cost of $for the gas check. Either way, the customer would have still incurred a cost for these services

New homeowner who bought a property that we serviced with ** gas for a cook stove called us at 9:pm because he had a smell of ** in the home. Our service technician responded and found a gas leak in the home under the cooktop. He turned off the gas at the tank and told the
customer to call the office in the am to set up a time to repair the leak. We own the ** tank and the regulator attached to it and are responsible for any repairs/ maintenance at the tank and up to and including the regulator. All piping after the regulator going into the home and to any appliance is owned by the homeowner and not our responsibility. Our position is that we were called out to the home by the homeowner and should be paid for our labor. Had the leak been at the tank or regulator that we own, there would have been no charge for the call. The new homeowner informed us that he was going to use another vendor for his propane and, as is our policy, we removed the tank and gave credit for 1/of the value of the propane in the tank in lieu of a labor charge to remove the tank( Homeowner was aware of this prior to picking up the tank) We feel the charge to go out to the homeowners house, as requested by the homeowner, is fair and reasonable

[The original issue is Why didn't WH Rhiley not shut off propane tank when they discontinued contract with previous home owner? At that point they should have sales person contact me to go over cost of propane contract, to turn tank back onThey kept tank on then charged me $too shut off in emergency situation, that could have been avoided if they conducted business properly
