We have reviewed the Consumer complaint filed by [redacted] against White Glove Moving & Storage, regarding overcharge & premises damage at pick-up & delivery locations. At this time we have reviewed her complaint along with her pre-move estimate, final moving paperwork, and our...

claim records.
We have confirmed that Consumer hired the Business to perform a Local move within New Jersey, performed on 1/23/14. Prior to the move, Consumer obtained an estimate based solely on her representation of the size/scope of services needed. The move was confirmed as a local hourly move, at a rate of $140/hour for 4 men for 9.5 hours, plus travel fee, fuel charge, and estimated packing materials in the total sum of $1853.01. The estimate clearly states “The total cost for your move will be based on the actual time it takes to perform your move. Time is calculated in 15 minute intervals above the minimum rate” and “The Estimated Time for your move is calculated based on the inventory of items and/or any other particulars provided by you, the shipper”. The move was estimated at approximately 1200 cf of goods, yet the customer ended up using the entire truck (truck holds 1500-1700 cf) even with some items not moved per her request. As such, it was evident that customer had more items than she had previously specified, & therefore the move took longer than expected (11 hours) & she was charged for actual time worked in the total sum of $2149.00 – an increase of approximately 12%. As such, no overcharge occurred. Regarding alleged damages to the homes at pick-up & delivery locations, no written claim has been filed by customer to date, more than two months after her move, as is required under the Terms of the Bill of Lading & Transportation Regulations governing her move. Further, no notation of any damage or overcharge issues was made by customer in writing on the Bill of Lading upon completion of the move, and she signed the Delivery Acknowledgement on this Form, confirming “The above services were rendered and all goods delivered in good order” without any exceptions noted.
We did speak with the customer after her move, but she was highly abusive, cursing, screaming, & we were unable to even assist her with information on filing a claim. Further, we have confirmed that customer signed a Premises Waiver for her move (see copy attached), which clearly states “I/We hereby knowingly accept all responsibility for any and all damages that may occur to existing property including but not limited to walls, banisters, stairs, doorways, doors, ceilings, fans, fixtures, all floor coverings including but not limited to rugs, linoleum, wooden floors, marble, tile, elevator, light fixtures, etc.…. I/We hereby waive any and all claims against the Carrier for damages that may occur to our pick-up and/or delivery premises”. As such, customer waived her right to any claims for damages to her carpet, wood floors and walls at both pick-up and delivery locations.
Therefore, at this time we must advise that no compensation is due Ms. [redacted]. We respectfully reques that this case be Administratively Resolved. Thank you.

Business to perform a Long Distance move from New Jersey to Florida, commencing on
8/10/15. Delivery was completed on 9/1/15 in Florida & at that time
Consumer signed all documents confirming shipment was received in good condition,
without any exceptions. He signed the Bill of Lading Delivery Acknowledgement
confirming “Shipment was received in apparent good condition…and services
ordered were performed”, & Inventory Lists without any notation of
loss/damage. Following pick-up, over 2 weeks later on 8/25/15 Consumer contacted
our office to advise that his elliptical exercise machine wasn’t moved from the
pick-up location. We explained that this item was not on the final estimate he
had received & that his move was based upon & he had signed the
Inventory List at pick-up confirming that all items were loaded. As the shipment
was leaving to Florida right away, there was no way to add the additional item
to the load already picked up & Consumer was advised of this. Further, at
pick-up Consumer had significantly more items/volume than were on his estimate,
for a total overage of $4500. However, he was only charged a nominal fee of $1000.00
for the overage by White Glove, strictly for good will. We advised Consumer
that the elliptical was not on his final estimate, not on the Inventory List signed
by him at pick-up, & he was not charged for it, therefore he wasn’t
entitled to any reimbursement for that item/issue. On 9/4/15 after delivery, Consumer
called us to file a claim for damaged items. He was not yet unpacked, so he was
advised to complete unpacking/inspecting his shipment & call back to file
claim. We did not hear from him, so we contacted him after that & left a
voice mail asking him to call back to file his claim, but never heard from him
again until receiving a notice of credit card chargeback dated 10/5/15. To
date, over 1.5 months after delivery Consumer still has not filed any written
legal claim as required by the Terms of the Bill of Lading & Interstate
Transportation Regulations governing his move, in order for compensation to be
considered under the $.60/lb/article coverage chosen by him for his move. Further,
as he has filed two credit card chargebacks for his entire move cost, at this
time his move is not paid for. If he wishes to file a claim, he should contact
us with his moving documents & list of items in hand well before time frame
specified on the Terms of his Bill of Lading expires, so that we may intake
claim from him & send him claim documents. AT
THIS TIME WE RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT THIS CASE BE CLOSED AS BEYOND PURVIEW AS
CONSUMER FILED A CREDIT CARD CHARGEBACK PRIOR TO FILING THIS COMPLAINT WITH THE

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:

Absolutely untrue statement by White Glove Moving. We had much less items as estimated. It shows their incompetence in providing a fair estimate, service and resolution. One of sales Rep. I spoke before the move, knew about that we were closing on the purchase and sale the same day of the move. He assured me that the movers will know how to make the move go smoothly. We had a very stressful & exhausting day and they didn't give me the time to read the documents they presented to me on the spot. They even didn't explain it to me. They just told me that I needed to sign them. I called them and emailed them many times about this issue as attached. They have my complaint in writing. The person I spoke to on the phone was rude and sarcastic and tried to change the subject with questions that had nothing to do with my complaint and wouldn't let me speak. Yes, I got frustrated and responded back loudly with a sarcastic question of my own, but never cursed. She gave me a hard time and no help with my claim.

For that reason, I want to be compensated for the damaged floors. I also want consumers to be aware that White Glove Moving estimates are bogus just to lure you in and then rip you off and they are NOT a white glove moving service.
Regards,
[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because the White Glove moving company is not truthful and will deceive customers by providing unprofessional services. The Elliptical machine was on ALL the inventory lists leading up to the day of the move. The day of the move was such a disaster as white glove moving failed to properly estimate the amount of boxes that it was beyond chaotic. I spent more time trying to fix all the issues caused by White Glove's incompetance that I never realized they did NOT do a final walk through with me in which we would of realized the elliptical was still there. My stuff was held for almost two weeks in Bayonne, NJ which was about 30 minutes away and they said they could not come pick up the elliptical. Only when I was in Florida did they say that they didn't charge me for it so I could not make a claim. If it was on every inventory list leading up to the move than why was it not moved??
I spoke to the claims department and made a claim with [redacted]. I was told I would only get $.60 on the pound for coverage. Now this "coverage" was something they steamroll you with when they come to your house the day of the move with 50 pages to sign, initial, date, etc. So the $1000 custom glass vase they packed with metal and other hard objects was broken and according to their "Claim coverage" would only be worth about $6.00. So after an hour of back and forth my claim was denied.
The biggest problem (Among all the others) is that they sell you "Professional" packing and moving services yet they hire people off CRAIGS LIST to pack and move for them! This is why I had a lot of damage to my new home from the "Unprofessional" movers who scratched tables, walls, stairs, etc since they were hired the day before. This is why they packed glass objects with metal objects....this is why they packed fragile items with shoes and frames....totally mind boggling. But if you search this company you will find all the negative issues customers had with them in the past and they are almost all for the same reasons. Very sad that this company is allowed to operate in such a manner and scam unsuspecting customers like this and hold them hostage since they have their "stuff".
No one ever called me and no one ever emailed me. Once again they make false statements. A claim was made with them and it was denied. Moving should be a fun and exciting experience but this was the worst experience I have ever had with moving. It was so bad that when I contacted local newspapers and stations that they were floored with what White Glove Moving did and how they operated. The public needs to be made aware of this company.

We have reviewed the recent rebuttal filed by [redacted], relative to her ongoing complaint against White Glove Moving & Storage.
We must reiterate that our prior response was correct and stands, and no monies are due Consumer for the reasons specified therein. Nevertheless, strictly for customer service, White Glove will offer $200.00 total for all claims/complaints as a good will gesture. Should Ms. [redacted] wish to accept this offer, she should confirm her acceptance through the Revdex.com no later than 4/20/14, for the offer to be valid. We will then send her settlement documents at that time, to execute so that payment of this amount may be issued thereafter.
Thank you for your assistance in resolving this matter.

We were so nervous about having a moving company move our household from Florida to Pennsylvania but White Glove Moving was so helpful and wonderful, it really decreased our stress! We worked with [redacted] at the office to get everything set up, and he was very helpful and responded quickly to our questions via phone and email. [redacted] and [redacted] were the crew and they handled our belongings with care, were friendly and professional, and did a great job accounting for every item. They were considerate of the other residents in the building we moved into, and would make way for folks to pass by and use the elevator. We added in an additional stop at a storage facility which wasn't too much extra. They were very cautious and quick. They were clear regarding pick up and drop off times, and let us know the day before the exact time window (a 4 hour window) they would be at our place. Having the price set beforehand was very helpful and decreased our stress of having a last minute price increase. We were very impressed by the quality of this company!

Review: The Sales Rep., [redacted], that came to give us an estimate promised us that it was accurate. He estimated 9.5 hrs with one large sectional sofa, one sleeper, ottoman, pool table, dining room table, large mirror that I ended up selling before the move from my 2 Bed townhouse to a single family home just 10 mins away. It ended up taking 12hrs even with less big furniture, which list is stated above. They only had to move already packed boxes, one queen size bedroom set, 2 twin sides beds, one dresser, one desk, silk plants, 3 plastic shelves units, one dining room table and 10 chairs, one small round pub table, cocktail and two end tables and that's it. The driver made me sign papers before taking my stuff out of the truck at the new home. Also, the movers damaged walls in the old house that the new buyers are requesting to be fixed. In the new house, they damaged all 4 bedrooms wood floors on the second level and hallway with snow and salt, and they dirtied my carpet in the living room and dinning room.

I called them and complaint but the CS lady was asking stupid questions like when was the house built.

I feel that they lied to me by providing an underestimate quote on purpose, so I can choose them to do my move, they also didn't provide a "white glove moving" and they treated me with no respect when I was trying to explain what happened in order for them to fix the damage doneDesired Settlement: I am requesting a full refund of all monies paid to them, which is $2,149.00 plus the cost of replacing and fixing the damages for a total of $12,803.00 & for all the stress and damages they have caused me and my family. My carpet is still dirty, my floors still has white spots all over from the snow and salt that they brought in by not protecting my floors. The wall in the old house is still damaged. The new owner will have to paint the whole living room which cost about $500. My new carpet will cost me $3,000 and my new floors $5,000.

Response:

We have reviewed the Consumer complaint filed by [redacted] against White Glove Moving & Storage, regarding overcharge & premises damage at pick-up & delivery locations. At this time we have reviewed her complaint along with her pre-move estimate, final moving paperwork, and our claim records.

Thank you.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

Review: I entered into a contract #[redacted] with White Glove Moving and they based their price on an estimated number of boxes needed to move and very clearly told me I would get a refund if they overestimated the number of boxes needed.

They overestimated by 50 boxes or $700. Every time I called to discuss a refund I was told to wait until my goods were delivered. Delivery was 9/10/13 and when I called for the refund, they told me I had to call when my stuff was picked up. They kept switching times when I should have talked to them and now refuse to give me a refund.

This was clearly a dishonest sales presentation and I would like your help in obtaining a refund.

My wife paid the bill on her credit card.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund and I would like other consumers to be aware of this company's business practices.

Business

Response:

We have reviewed the Consumer complaint filed by [redacted] against White Glove Moving & Storage, regarding overcharge. We have also reviewed his moving paperwork and our records relative to this matter.

We have confirmed that Consumer hired the Business to perform a Long Distance move, including storage. Shipment was picked up on 7/14/13 in New Jersey, & placed in White Glove’s warehouse per Consumer’s request. At time of pick-up, Mr. [redacted] agreed to & signed for a flat rate for the move, in the sum of $4552.38, for actual services/supplies needed (see attached copy of Binding Estimate of Cost). While Consumer did have somewhat less boxes than estimated, he added additional furniture/items, therefore the price was agreed to as stated on the Binding Estimate and Bill of Lading. Following pick-up, on 7/17/13 (3 days after pick-up) we contacted Mr. [redacted] for a standard customer service follow-up call. He told us at that time that all went well with the pick-up, the movers did a good job, and he had no complaints or issues at all. Thereafter, on 8/14/13 (one month after pick-up) Consumer’s wife called us to ask about the final cost of the move as compared with the estimate. We explained to her that as the file was solely in Mr. [redacted]’s name, we would have to contact him directly to discuss any issues with the move. We spoke with Mr. [redacted] on that same date & he said he did not know why his wife had called us as he already explained to her that the price would remain the same. He further stated that he did NOT want us to add her to the file or discuss anything with her & that he was not questioning the final move cost. Delivery of the shipment was completed in South Carolina on 9/10/13. On 9/11/13, almost 2 months after pick-up, and following delivery at which time Consumer paid the full agreed price, the wife called again disputing the price. We told her again that her husband who is the customer of record on the moving documents does not wish us to discuss anything with her. Thereafter, we spoke with Mr. [redacted] & explained the pricing structure to him & that although he had less boxes, he had more furniture/items and had signed for a flat price, so there was no way to backtrack & get an itemization of the labor, line haul, packing materials, weight, etc. at this point as it was now 2 months after pick-up and his agreement to a flat price. We have spoken with the sales person who handled the move, and he confirmed that Consumer did not at any time prior to pick-up call to change his inventory list of items to be shipped, and confirmed White Glove’s policy that the list may be changed any time prior to pick-up by the Consumer.

Based on the above, Consumer agreed and signed in writing to a flat price for the move, which is exactly the amount he was charged. As such, at this time no adjustment is due him. Please update your files accordingly, and close this complaint. [redacted]

Review: Hired white glove moving since their sales people were great but once the "moving" people came it was a disaster. Halfway through the moving out of the house they said the truck was full and told us we had to pay for another truck. Called "[redacted]" who was the director and he cursed me out and said they would "drop my [redacted] off on the front lawn" if I didnt want to pay for another truck. I was basically forced to pay for another truck. When our stuff got to our destination in Florida I found out that they are NOT a professional moving company as they hired people off of Craigs list to unload the truck and move stuff into our new home! We had damage to our walls and stairs as items were dragged and dropped all over the house. This company also packed all of our heavy, over sized, glass, clothes and electronics since that is their policy for them to do it. The items were not packed correctly and we had numerous damage to items that exceeded the amount we paid for the move! They packed custom blown glass vases with shoes and picture frames! They packed computer monitors with lawn tools!! All of our hanging clothes (suits, dress shirts, dresses, etc) were delivered upside down so everything was wrinkled badly and had to be brought to the cleaners to get pressed. They also forgot to move our $2000 elliptical machine and left it sitting in the basement of our old home! Their answer to that was that we didn't pay to move it....yet it is on every itemized list I have from them leading up to the move! This company is a total scam and should not be allowed to do business anymore!Desired Settlement: I want all my money I paid to move refunded to me. Not only did they damage a ton of my stuff but they left items at my previous home. They were very nasty and unprofessional to me in a time of duress. I paid for PROFESSIONAL moving services and they hire people off of Craig's List to do the work!

Response:

We are in receipt of the Consumer complaint filed by [redacted] against White Glove Moving & Storage, regarding non-reassembly of a grandfather clock. We have reviewed the complaint along with the Business' records. We have confirmed that Consumer hired the Business to perform a Long Distance move from New Jersey to Texas, commencing on 10/7/14. Delivery was completed on 10/21-10/23/14, and at that time a grandfather clock was not fully reassembled as the driver understood that the Consumer did not wish him to complete this work. We have now spoken with the Consumer, and all parties have agreed that [redacted] will hire a local clock repair company to perform a service call to reassemble the weights/pendulum onto his clock, and then submit the paid bill to White Glove for reimbursement. We have confirmed that Consumer will not pursue any other claims/issues relative to his move. Please update your records to reflect Satisfactory Settlement of this complaint, and close it as Resolved. Thank you, [redacted] Director CPC
