It is very unfortunate that we were not able to please this customer, as we strive for excellence on each and every project This project was extremely challenging due to the work environment created in the customer’s home The customer insisted on hovering over us as we worked, closely watching every move, questioning and debating everything that was worked on We endured a lot of sarcastic and rude remarks, even verbal threats over the phone Regardless, we kept pushing forward, dealing with that work environment the best we could, and completed the contract scope along with numerous additional items at the customer’s request After the project was completed, the customer called about the shower door, saying that it was scratched and installed incorrectly I agreed that the door should be fixed, but the original crew that performed the work felt extremely uncomfortable going back into his home In the interest of moving forward and getting this issue resolved for the customer, I sent in a different team of two skilled installers with a brand-new shower door, and instructions to take care of any other issues that the customer may have The crew leader told me that upon entering the customer’s home, they were engaged with a heated debate regarding details of the project they had nothing to do with He told me that he felt it was a hostile work environment, and didn’t feel comfortable working there either; so they left the material with the customer and politely removed themselves from the situationAfter two separate crews explained that they were not comfortable being in his home, I still attempted to get everything resolved, and had the work on his shower door scheduled to be completed two separate times over the next couple of months The first time the customer cancelled because he said he was leaving the country for an extended period of timeThe second time the customer cancelled because he did not feel the weather was suitable for work to be completed inside his home, stating that mud etccould be tracked into the residenceI would like to address each specific issue stated in the customer’s complaint: “The Job was finished July 8th of Paid in full”The job was not paid in fullWhen the project was finished and it was time to pay for the balance due, he argued over the previously agreed upon price, citing various reasons why he thought he should be able to pay less than what was owed This continued to the point that I felt it was useless to debate, so in the interest of closing the project out and moving on, I reluctantly settled for an amount less than owed This lesser amount is what the customer referred to in his complaint as “paid in full”“the shower doors fell off the track”This was never communicated to us; this exaggerated version of events differs from his original statement when he told us that the shower door was crooked and did not close flush to the wall We agreed to fix this simple issue at no charge to him.“no support under the shower floor”This is a statement, the 48” x 32” shower pan was installed according to manufacturer’s specifications Since the customer is a very tall and full-figured gentleman, we recommended that he go with a concrete poured pan and tile to match the walls He did not follow our suggestion, and instead chose a very inexpensive fiberglass pan, so it’s possible that he may feel flexing in the pan itself, inherent to it’s minimal quality standards.“I would like Whitehill Construction Management to fix the Shower water supply line”This has never been mentioned before, and I find it interesting that it is suddenly coming up now, with no explanation of what the issue is The warranty covers incorrect installation, not misuse from the customer If there was an issue with the water supply line, I believe it would not have taken a year for the customer to make us awareIn closing, I would like to make it clear that we have already made several attempts to please this customer, and will continue to do so if required; but I will not let myself or our employees be subjected to a hostile work environment I feel that the best course of action would be for him to hire another contractor of his choice to complete the work he is requesting We have already purchased and delivered the new material to his home, and we will gladly write a check to cover the labor that will be involved I am willing to pay for one day of labor for one carpenter and one laborer The total reasonable cost for this labor is $440, I will write this check immediately upon receipt of a signed, written statement from the customer stating that Whitehill Construction Management is released of all further requests relating to this project

The customer has been contacted with a proposed date of 08/to complete the requested work

It is very unfortunate that we were not able to please this customer, as we strive for excellence on each and every project.  This project was extremely challenging due to the work environment created in the customer’s home.  The customer insisted on hovering over us as we worked, closely...

watching every move, questioning and debating everything that was worked on.  We endured a lot of sarcastic and rude remarks, even verbal threats over the phone.  Regardless, we kept pushing forward, dealing with that work environment the best we could, and completed the contract scope along with numerous additional items at the customer’s request.  After the project was completed, the customer called about the shower door, saying that it was scratched and installed incorrectly.  I agreed that the door should be fixed, but the original crew that performed the work felt extremely uncomfortable going back into his home.  In the interest of moving forward and getting this issue resolved for the customer, I sent in a different team of two skilled installers with a brand-new shower door, and instructions to take care of any other issues that the customer may have.  The crew leader told me that upon entering the customer’s home, they were engaged with a heated debate regarding details of the project they had nothing to do with.  He told me that he felt it was a hostile work environment, and didn’t feel comfortable working there either; so they left the material with the customer and politely removed themselves from the situation. After two separate crews explained that they were not comfortable being in his home, I still attempted to get everything resolved, and had the work on his shower door scheduled to be completed two separate times over the next couple of months.  The first time the customer cancelled because he said he was leaving the country for an extended period of time. The second time the customer cancelled because he did not feel the weather was suitable for work to be completed inside his home, stating that mud etc. could be tracked into the residence. I would like to address each specific issue stated in the customer’s complaint: “The Job was finished July 8th of 2016 Paid in full”The job was not paid in full. When the project was finished and it was time to pay for the balance due, he argued over the previously agreed upon price, citing various reasons why he thought he should be able to pay less than what was owed.  This continued to the point that I felt it was useless to debate, so in the interest of closing the project out and moving on, I reluctantly settled for an amount less than owed.  This lesser amount is what the customer referred to in his complaint as “paid in full”. “the shower doors fell off the track”This was never communicated to us; this exaggerated version of events differs from his original statement when he told us that the shower door was crooked and did not close flush to the wall.  We agreed to fix this simple issue at no charge to him.“no support under the shower floor”This is a false statement, the 48” x 32” shower pan was installed according to manufacturer’s specifications.  Since the customer is a very tall and full-figured gentleman, we recommended that he go with a concrete poured pan and tile to match the walls.  He did not follow our suggestion, and instead chose a very inexpensive fiberglass pan, so it’s possible that he may feel flexing in the pan itself, inherent to it’s minimal quality standards.“I would like Whitehill Construction Management to fix the Shower water supply line”This has never been mentioned before, and I find it interesting that it is suddenly coming up now, with no explanation of what the issue is.  The warranty covers incorrect installation, not misuse from the customer.  If there was an issue with the water supply line, I believe it would not have taken a year for the customer to make us aware. In closing, I would like to make it clear that we have already made several attempts to please this customer, and will continue to do so if required; but I will not let myself or our employees be subjected to a hostile work environment.  I feel that the best course of action would be for him to hire another contractor of his choice to complete the work he is requesting.  We have already purchased and delivered the new material to his home, and we will gladly write a check to cover the labor that will be involved.  I am willing to pay for one day of labor for one carpenter and one laborer.  The total reasonable cost for this labor is $440, I will write this check immediately upon receipt of a signed, written statement from the customer stating that Whitehill Construction Management is released of all further requests relating to this project.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
Regards,
[redacted]What I would like Whitehill construction to do is funish the job they started  I can not find any contractor to do the repairs for the price they stated they would pay,If whitehill  construction would make aware fo the date they will do the repairs  I am willing to vacate my home while they do the repairs .  I will let them in and then leave. I will need a call to know when they finish so my house is not left open all day or nite. Please let me know what your response is on this issue.

We will agree to schedule the work to be completed, provided the residence is vacant throughout the entire construction process, as suggested by the customer.  The customer must also agree to sign off on the work upon completion, releasing Whitehill Construction Management from any further requests or issues relating to this project.
