Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/12/24) */
Response to Customer complaint [redacted]

1: Being chastised on two occasions for requesting walk-in service for our animals by office staff.
Response, it is our policy to see patients by appointment so as to best serve them in a timely...

fashion, by her own admission she chose to ignore clinic policy and common courtesy.
2: Receiving less than Than empathetic service during the last minutes of their dog's life.
The dog In question was examined and was reported to have progressive signs of coughing, gagging and vomiting for over a year. Initial recommendations for diagnostic test to determine the cause of the problem were declined. Radiographs taken a month after the initial visit confirmed a mass in the chest
most likely to be some form of cancer. The dog was determined to have a terminal condition and was prescribed palliative treatment. End of life decisions are difficult at best, we consul clients to evaluate quality of life and at s me point the best course of action is to end needless suffering and misery. That
point should be before the animal is literally taking it's last breath, An inquiry at a later date revealed that the dog died enroute to a 24 hour emergency clinic.
3: Being told that our rescue kitten can't be given any medication because It was too small and that the vet was surprised that it was still alive,
Our clinic was presented with a severely emaciated kitten Infested with maggots. This has been, by past experience a life threatening condition with a grave prognosis. The treatment consists of removing the
maggots and providing supportive therapy, a service we provided. The kitten returned a week later with
diarrhea, I explained to the client that there really are no readily available formulations of medication for animals this small, We treated the kitten by dividing a pill Into 1/8th sections.
4:The vet had no idea as to breed-specific issues or the best time to neuter a Bassett hound.

There are entire books devoted to breed related health issues. If your dog exhibits symptoms of a breed
specific condition, we have multiple references at our disposal. Concerning the best time to neuter a Bassett, I have been a veterinarian for 38 years neutering dogs during that time, I have no idea where she is coming from on that Issue,
See the attached Trifex’s insert. This Insert was added to the packaging for the complimentary heartworm medication she received detailing the extended expiration date on the medication.
6: Concerning the La/Mastiff mix presented for rabies on November 20,
First, our protocol for rabies vaccination is to use a 1 year vaccine, a 3 year rabies is available upon request, No request was made till after administration of the vaccine. The dog in question had to be muzzled prior to entry into the clinic and the dog attempted to attack a staff member even while
mutzled. Here it appears that nomenclature In our charges caused confusion. Every appointment is usually assess an office visit fee of $36.00. We charged her an annual physical exam fee of $31.00 in

order to reduce the expense. She is correct that no physical exam was administered but that was due to the fact that the animal was muzzled and fractious, When there is a concern of Injury to the staff or the animal, we will elect to forego such procedures In the interest of safety. If this is a sticking point then I will delete the physical exam fee and apply the correct fee the office visit fee. In which case she will owe use an additional $5.00.
She called to complain that she did not receive a physical and that we should remove the charge. My
office manager attempted to explain that there would have been e charge in any event and that this was the lesser charge but she would have none of it and said that she would no longer patronize our clinic.
7: Heartworm medication order from an online pharmacy.
We routinely honor these requests when they are presented, provided the pet is a current client and has met the requirements for a prescription. A key requirement for fulfilling a prescription is that there is a valid doctor/client relationship. Our last conversation with the client and our office manager ended with her stating that she would not do any more business with us. If she is no longer a client that Invalidates the doctor/client relationship, No valid relationship precludes me from filling any prescriptions.
We at the Bluffton Animal Clinic make every effort to provide client satisfaction for their pets. Difficult clients can be a challenge and we do our boat to accommodate them. However when a client has succeeded in antagonizing every member or our staff, it Is time to sever that relationship. The number of clients that have been fired, I can count on one hand, This client has achieved that status.
When a client proves to be A cancer on the morel of the entire staff, no amount of money is adequate
compensation. These clients will be Informed that we have failed to meet their expectations and in such a case all would be better served if they found a veterinarian that they feel would better meet their needs. We will offer to forward their records to the clinic of their choice, but that we will no longer be providing them with service.
As for the clients desired resolution, I will provide her at no charge the 6 months of heartworm medication she desires on three conditions: 1 she remove all negative reviews on social media outlets, we are aware of at least two, 2 she makes no further reviews of our business in social media, 3 she never returns to Our business for any service.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 7, 2015/12/31) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Despite several untruths, I am satisfied that the organization chooses to compensate our family for services for which we had paid. I will see to it that the (one) social media rating will be removed. No other public remarks have been made on our behalf. We will pick up the medication on the next business day.
