When bills become delinquent, customers receive a notice that nonpayment will result in service disconnection. Customers are also afforded an opportunity for a hearing. If bills remain unpaid, the customer is disconnected until payment is received. After the delinquent fees and penalties are received, the customer is reconnected within 24 hours.
WMU maintains a 24-hour hotline for emergencies (eg., sewer main breaks, etc), though the hotline states that delinquent disconnections are not considered emergencies for purposes of the hotline and a separate phone prompt is provided for disconnections. The customer here has been disconnected in the past for nonpayment, and was recently disconnected again for nonpayment after receiving notice of the delinquency and impending disconnection. The customer was reconnected once payment was received. WMU disputes the characterization of its communications with the customer, and WMU has maintained its professionalism in addressing the customers regardless. As with all customers, the customer is responsible for ensuring the bill is up to date and can avoid future disconnection by promptly paying the monthly. The customer should ensure the current outstanding bill is paid on time to avoid another disconnection.
