Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. There will be no resolution to this affair. I have since had to rent a car (another $300) to drive to Savannah. The van was not in any condition to make it back to Richmond. The catalytic converter is not the reason that the car is not drivable. Before the accident, I was experiencing no problems with the car which can be validated by service records. The car was returned to me in a condition that resulted in my being stranded in Savannah and unable to drive the car back. Yes, the van had mileage on it--but it was only "undrivable" after my car broke down after losing 6 quarts of transmission fluid (the amount of which is insignificant compared to the fact that my car could not even go into gear and I had to sign a form saying the transmission was damaged). The car was also leaking significant fluid--water, oil, and transmission fluid--which Whitten Bros wants to maintain was not part of the accident. However, I had NO fluid leakage prior, only after the car was returned to me documented by my several calls to their service departmen. Kevin swore to me that there was NO fluid leakage in the van when it was in for repairs. How can that be true then?
The bottom line is that the car was returned to me in an unsatisfactory condition. The transmission issue is directly related to the repairs done. Mr W[redacted] states there was no engine damage but the car was never checked by a mechanic and it was only after I insisted that there was damage, that the radiator and condenser was replaced. The first report to the insurance company will confirm this.
The dealership in Savannah (who had also had it with Whitten Bros because up until the morning I picked it up, Whitten Bros had not paid their bill)-- they ended up giving me $1000 for the van--a generous gesture because with the damage done to the car, it was now worth less than $300. My car--had it been totaled like it should have--would have been worth $3700. It was based on false information by Whitten Bros that Farmer's did not total the car. This dealership did the right thing and now has me as a customer. Whitten Bros deserves the negative ratings that are so prevelant on their reviews for this body shop, and they will never have me or anyone that I have told of this incident.

Review: I wrecked my vehicle Feb 2nd hitting a coyote. [redacted] referred my van to Whitten Bros. An adjuster from [redacted] never looked at the vehicle. Whitten Bros undervalued the damage to get the contract. They tried to return the car to me with only body work done (there was extensive engine and underbody damage). When I asked about the engine, they had a body shop tech, not a certified mechanic, fix the van. He installed the radiator incorrectly. They called me to come pick up the van and asked me if my air bag sensor light was on before the accident (it, of course, was not). This was a clue that no one had completely evaluated the car. I was very hesitant when I received the car. There was an oil leak that I called about; they said it was not their problem. I drove the van to Savannah two days later. The transmission went out (due to the faulty install of the radiator). I had to tow the van to a transmission shop where they told me (after replacing 6 qts of transmission fluid) that it had transmission damage. It was also leaking transmission fluid, water, and oil. It broke down again and I had to get it towed back to Savannah. Neither Whitten Bros or [redacted] will accept responsibility for the transmission. The van should have been totaled after the accident-- it was not because Whitten lied about the damage and the adjuster did not do his job. The car is now sitting in Savannah,, GA. I have neither a car which will run nor the money for the car. I have hired a lawyer, but it will take $2000 to take the case to court,, which is more than the van is worth and I am afraid that I will get stuck with legal fees.Desired Settlement: The transmission either needs to be replaced OR the insurance company or Whitten should total my car (as it should have done in the first place because the damage exceeded 70% of the value of the car)

To whom it may concern at the Revdex.com: I will attempt to address the complaints and statements that [redacted] makes in Revdex.com case# [redacted]. Whitten Brothers is an authorized [redacted] collision repair facility and did not “undervalue” damage to “get the contract”. [redacted] adjusters look at photos that Whitten Brothers estimators upload into a collision industry specific software system (CCC One). The [redacted] adjuster scrutinizes the ESTIMATE written by a Whitten Brothers employee and relevant photos that have been uploaded and is free to ask for additional photos and information at their discretion. Our goal is to repair the vehicle properly and never “under” or “over” repair a vehicle. The damage to the vehicle wasn’t to the engine, the damage didn’t extend past the radiator and AC condenser. The radiator support was intact as well. The context of the services requested and repairs required didn’t involve a comprehensive scrutinizing of the entire mechanical systems of the [redacted] that had 227,942 miles on the odometer. The ”faulty” installation she references is a pinched transmission cooler line where it attaches to the radiator that allowed fluid to slowly leak out. The shop in Savannah GA put 4 quarts (not 6 as she references in her complaint) in the transmission and the van was operational again. She then went on her way again and the van failed north of Savannah and was towed back again. This failure was determined (by a shop in Georgia) to be an engine issue that resulted from a clogged catalytic converter issue. The oil leaks are pre-existing issues from a van that has 227,942 miles on the odometer and may or may not have been maintained over the years etc.. Whitten Brothers Inc. has been in contact with [redacted] and has paid the bill for her repair in Georgia and a mechanical check fee and her rental bill. Whitten Brothers inc. has done more than we are responsible for at this point and while we sympathize with Ms. [redacted], we can’t make her 227,942 mile decade plus old Van “new”again. Whitten Brothers Inc. can’t “total” a car, only her insurance carrier, [redacted], can legally do so. We simply repair wrecked vehicles with permission from the owner and insurance companies. Review: I went to whitten body shop after I had my car accident in the beginning of the year in the month of March. My vehicle is the [redacted] The damage was on the front right side bumper. My vehicle was repaired on March 28, 2014. Before I picked up the vehicle on this date, My father and I inspected the vehicle and everything was fine, looking great. Until a month later in April, I was hearing rattling noises coming from the front right side of the vehicle.

I notice a couple of screws were loose, so I took it back. They fix it, so I thought, as I looked it over before I left the shop and it looked fine. I have been going to this shop a few times now to fix this problem and contact my insurance company [redacted] to keep them updated on this issue that my vehicle is not being repair correctly.

The paint is fine, they did a great Paint job on my vehicle. But my front bumper is still not correct and there is a gap behind the right side of bumper and there is a loose screw that is causing this gap. This is due to whitten failing to repair the bumper correctly. And I am tired of going to whitten to fix this. I feel like they didn't put any effort in the last few times to fix this and it's upsetting to me.

Then after going back and forth with whitten on this issue, they will mail me a letter talking about not doing business with my insurance company anymore. What is that about? Not a good business to deal with. I am not satisfied.Desired Settlement: I want whitten to fix this bumper correctly without screws getting loose and causing gaps behind the front bumper. It needs to look better. They took states farm's money months ago, so they should fix my car correctly. No excuses.

Response:

The BB spoke with the business. They addressed the issues with the customer yesterday and put her in a rental vehicle while it was being looked into. The business made sure it was not loose anymore before the customer left the business.
