Wilber's Painting Reviews (4)

Wilbur's Painting does not represent the integrity and community that is Maplewood. Wilbur's crew backed into our vehicle and caused damage. Multiple neighbors corroborated the event, in addition to it being a common occurrence on the street, also corroborated. With Wilbur's crews and multiple trucks, cars and vans backing in and out of the driveway 20+ times per day, its easy to conclude the scenario that played out.
The most disturbing to Maplewood residents, is that a prominent business in the town is avoiding, denying and blatantly ignoring any and all attempts made to address an issue that was respectfully raised direct with them.
Maplewood residents deserve better, this is not the type of integrity and responsibility we expect from a business in our community. Maplewood residents expect their neighbors to do the right thing.
Wilbur's is just another shady shop, out for their next job, with no acknowledgement of and appreciation for the community it lives and works in.

To Whom It May Concern,
In response to the complaint received from Mr. [redacted], we extend our most sincere apologizes for any inconvenience caused upon completion of our work.  Our most important priority is to ensure our customers’ satisfaction at all times.  Our aim was...

never to damage Mr. [redacted]s’ property. We did, however, replace the trims with the exact measurements as the old ones.
The “cutting out of good new cedar clapboard”, as mentioned by Mr. [redacted], did not take place as it was not necessary. We were simply replacing the window trims to match the existing ones.
The gap that remained between the wood siding and the new trims, in some places wider than others, is normal due to expansion and contraction of the wood siding.  These areas are always filled with caulk as part of the painting preparation which the customer stated he would perform.
As a gesture of good faith, on July 16, 2014, we issued a refund check to Mr. [redacted] in the amount of $150.00 as he requested. Check which has already been cashed.
Because customer satisfaction is our top priority and being a company that always warranties our work, if needed, we would be happy to meet with Mr. [redacted] to address any other concerns.
Truly,

Review: The letter I sent on 7/7/14 to Wilber's painting ([redacted])

Emails were sent 6/30/14 immediately after I discovered the inferior repair (I have proof of emails)-

Account#[redacted]

(Original email sent on June 30 to [redacted])

Dear Mr. [redacted],

Last Thursday June 26, 2014, I had exterior window trim replaced by Wilber's carpentry team led by [redacted], on four (4) windows. The windows are located on the first floor. I inspected the windows from the ground and paid (the contracted amount of $900) for the work done.

On Friday I climbed a ladder to fill nail holes in preparation to paint. That is when I discovered that the tops of two (2) windows had a gap of 1/4" and the other a 1/2" gap between the clapboard siding and newly installed window trim. The Tyvek was visible!

See attached photos. (I have more I can email you)

The agreed upon work therefore was not completed.

In fact, the new trim is the exact size as the old trim that was removed, so I cannot understand why the additional cutting out of good new cedar clapboard (Causing the 1/2" gap) happened to begin with.

As you know, if the gaps to the interior structure had not been discovered, water damage would have been extensive.

I spent a morning purchasing caulk, then on a ladder, filling the gaps, and other areas not adequately caulked. In the process ruining a shirt. Time, materials, shirt replacement will cost $150.00.

$150.00 is what I am asking Wilber's Painting to compensate me for this error.

Even tough, if I had not discovered the error, there would have been extensive damage.

I await your response, otherwise I will take further action.

(My name and contact info here in letter)Desired Settlement: Refund of $150.00 to cover my immediate action to caulk 2 windows and the further work to have flashing installed to permanently keep rain from entering the interior wall of the house.

Response:

As you can see by the attached photos taken AFTER Wilber's Carpentry team left, that a 1/2" gap was left above a FEW of the windows. Other windows were done correctly and were fully caulked. So Wilber's statement that caulking was NOT part of the agreed to work is false, this was sloppy work. And good cedar siding was definitely removed, so Wilber's is incorrect on that point also. It's ashame they cannot admit this.

I will not do business with Wilber's again and will mention this to friends and family needing painting/carpentry work.

I contracted with this company a few years ago. The temporary employees he sent to work on my home were inexperienced, very sloppy, unqualified and arrived without the proper tools. I took photos of the all the damage they did home and terminated the contract.
