Mr. [redacted] purchased a 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche on August 10th, 2016. The vehicle was inspected to Wisconsin standards. I believe the concern Mr. [redacted] is referencing is possible oil consumption. There is no possible way to know if any vehicle has an oil consumption concern unless that vehicle is...

driven for a minimum of 1200 miles up to 5000 miles. We have not had an opportunity to inspect Mr. [redacted] vehicle ourselves, or perform an oil consumption test. The recommended oil change intervals for a 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche is every 7500 miles. The manufacturers acceptable level of oil consumption is 1 quart for every 2000 miles. Mr. [redacted] did have his truck diagnosed at  Fagan Automotive on February 2nd, 2017. Mr. [redacted] then spoke to Joe Hofstetter and explained Fagan quoted him $1500 for a repair. Joe then told Mr. [redacted] we could do the repair for $890. We would be more than happy to diagnose Mr. [redacted] vehicle for him for free and if the vehicle does need the repair, our offer would still stand at $890 plus tax.   [redacted]

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Thank you for responding to my issue Mr. [redacted].  I am sorry that this is what it took for you and I to connect though.  I have tried to email and leave you messages on multiple occasions and perhaps this could have been resolved easier had that happened.  However, I am afraid that the information you have been provided is very inaccurate.  I believe I am a very reasonable person and know that I have purchased a used vehicle and there are bound to be some normal issues.  However I believe as you will see this is not, I believe normal.  Here are the issues that I have had with the vehicle that were noticed before the first oil change.  1) Large amounts of dark/blue smoke will blow out of the back of the truck when I start it up occasionally.  2) The driver side mirror does not heat up and defrost.  3) The battery in the truck died and had to be recharged to turn back on.  4) The dashboard information/speedometer/etc shut off while driving and I could not tell anything about what was happening to the truck.  I took the vehicle in for an oil change well before the 7500 miles because it began to have low oil lights on the dash as well as a shaking when driving.  When, I took the truck in for the first oil change at Fagan, they said that the oil was filthy and extremely low.  They also had no explanation for my electrical problems, since I could not get it to happen or course while they were there.  With regards to the oil, my suspicion at that time is that mistakes happen and perhaps the oil change was not done when I bought the vehicle so I did not think too much of it and thought I would just monitor it hoping that it would be not happen again.  This is the first time I reached out Terrance the person I bought the truck from via email and did not receive a response back.  He had been promoted and apparently did not have access to his old email.Between this and the 2nd oil change I continued to have low oil lights come on at ~2500 miles as well as what became a violent shake to the truck while driving and braking (sometimes).  I continued to have oil issues and before 3000 miles I was on the way back from Madison and the truck panel told me low oil and to turn the engine off immediately.  I was able to limp the truck to Fagan to get the oil changed and I asked them to do the complete diagnostic at my expense to find out what is going on.  This is where they identified the following issues:  Bulletin # 10-06-01-008L which is a known issue with the engine on this vehicle I guess.  The bulletin suggests that there is a complete repair to do on the engine which will cost WAY more than $1500 to fix – over 20 hrs of labor alone from the parts.  They also identified the lower ball joints on the vehicle were in danger of failing and needed to be repaired.  They did quote me a price to repair the ball joint, but I have never received a quote to fix the engine, so I am not sure where you got that information, but it is incorrect.  They checked with my insurance that I got through your dealership and they would not cover it because they believe it is a “maintenance” issue. As you could imagine I was very upset about all of this.  Since I had never received communication back from the salesman that I purchased it through (Terrance Caldwell, could be spelled wrong), I tried Joe Hofstetter.  After 4 documented voicemails from 1-6-17 through 1-8-17; I did talk with Joe and explained the issues I was having.  He said he would see what he could do.  I emailed him all of the information that I had received from Fagan on 2-10-17.  After talking with the service manager, Joe called me back and said that they would not do the repair and that the insurance company believes it is a maintenance issue.  I asked what could be done about this because I sure don’t think this is fair to me.  He mentioned some sort of cleaning/maintenance procedure that could be done and might help it (which is what you are talking about in your response, not the actual fix).  He of course can’t guarantee it but someone else in the shop had this done and it fixed the issue.  I said I was interested but needed to know the cost.  Joe appeared to want to help, but his follow up was not so great, because this was the last I heard from him in a long time.  I would call and leave messages and emails with no response.  I did eventually find out that the Terrance was promoted so I was able to call him.  He tried to track Joe down for me and have him call me which never happened.  After 9 emails to Joe and dozens of phone calls I finally got him back on the phone.  He said that they could do the “fix” repair for me for $700 (again not the information you were given).  I said that I was nervous about just putting more money into this and not having it fix the issue.  I asked him to contact the insurance company and determine that if this fix does not repair the issue will they no longer consider it a “maintenance” issue and take care of it?  He said he would look into that for me.  I did get an email back from him quoting the $700 and no mention of the question I had…  Very frustrating.  I continued to call Terrance seeing if could help get Joe to call me as he is the only person in your company that will take my call or respond back to me.  Shortly before I sent this complaint in, they must have been tired of hearing from me because when I would ask for Terrance, I would just be transferred to Joe’s voicemail and from experience he will not respond to that.  I literally called back at least 10 times and would ask for Terrance and be transferred to Joe.  Wow…  Talk about unprofessional!  On my last call, I told the receptionist to give you, Pete, a message that I am not interested in talking to Joe and that if you wanted to call me I would appreciate that and if I don’t hear from you I was going to file this complaint.  I did not hear back so I filed it.  As you can see, you do not have the correct information about my issues or the facts about what has happened.  I would certainly hope that if you had known about this you would have done something about this way before now.  So at this point, I have been sold a vehicle which is probably not safe to drive.  Somewhere between 2500-3000 (which by your own response is not acceptable) miles it basically is completely drained of oil and is in danger of having major issues.  I have tried to talk to your dealership about it for 5 months and been put off.  The few answers I have got are not consistent and not complete.  If needed, I will attach the original information about the needed repair to this complaint if you want to see it.Also here is the email Joe sent me with my response about the price:Thanks for getting back to me Joe.Can you tell me what the real cost of this would be if you were not assisting in the cost?  Also did you find anything out about what happens if we do this and it still does not fix the issue, thus in my opinion suggesting it is not a “maintenance” issue?
