Williamsburg Home Improvements Reviews (%countItem)

I was charged *** for some home repairs, when I asked for a itemized bill, I received the following:
- Comprehensive invoice breakdown between material and labor;

o Material purchased - ***

o Contract labor paid out - ***

o In-house labor - ***
Total = *** not ***

I hired *** last August to do some minor updates in a home we had just purchased. He told me he would start working on our home August 20th, as we planned on moving in on Sept 15th. On Sept 11th *** admitted that "we've been over your house off and on but we plan on hitting it hard towards the end of the week. Then continuing every day." By Sept 24th the only thing completed was demo on the master bathroom which took one afternoon. Oct 3 with little done on our house, not one piece of tile had been installed and *** told me he needed more money because he had to buy a lot of materials. At this point I was aware *** had not been paid for a previous job that was now impacting our job because subs had not been paid. I felt I had no choice by this point but to give him more money in hopes that he would get to work on my house. I had to leave town for my daughters promotion Oct 8, *** told me he would have some tile done when I returned on Oct 16. He assured me "we will be there full time. I'll get it moving. The subs will be there this week also." We had rented our home in Gloucester and told the renters the house would be ready about Sept 15. With so little being accomplished and more than a month past the expected move in date our renters were threatening to back out. I told *** we have to be able to that ve in NLT Nov 15th, movers were scheduled and the renters were promised they could move in Nov 15. On Nov 3 and just before leaving town for a few days, *** asked for money a third time. I feel he tried to make up what he did not get paid for on his previous job.

Williamsburg Home Improvements Response • Feb 10, 2020

My previous customer was charged *** for a complete master bath renovation, an additional complete full bath renovation, an entire second level of flooring and replacement of a toilet, vanity and sink in a powder in addition to numerous misc work. These were not "minor" renovations. The customer was billed for the work, which included a very detailed invoice, and paid in full. After a lengthy period of time passed *** is now demanding an unjustified refund. The prices are justifiable and a breakdown was sent to the customer of which she has posted in the complaint out of context. The breakdown answered the questions she asked. A further breakdown was then sent that also included, as a courtesy to help her understand, average prices for the work completed in our area. The prices are not only fair but are below average.
In regards to the timeliness of the work, the customer did not inform us of a deadline, there was always "no rush". In fact, there were numerous times that work was added to the job and it was reiterated that there was, in the customers words, "no rush".
There were several items that the customer was not charged for including the installation a master bedroom fan, installation of a sliding barn door and casing molding, the installation of casing molding in a rental home the customer owns about 30-40 minutes away as well as numerous trips to the dump with the customers trash.

Our company has been nothing but respectful, truthful and accommodating.

Customer Response • Feb 21, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The initial date for the completion was Sept 15, 2019. *** was having finical issues because his previous customer had refused to pay him for work until it was done to their satisfaction. I was sympathetic to his problems and did tell him I was fine with the work being late but nothing was being started. He promised to start on numerous occasions but never showed up. Sept 17, 2019 I sent him a message asking that he install the LVF upstairs so that I had someplace to store items as my storage and garage were running out of room. Sept 27, 2019 I went to *** Tile to pick up the niches for the bathrooms. They said they had been trying to get a hold of *** and asked me to call him. When I got *** on the phone *** took my phone in the office to talk to him. I assumed it had something to do with money, I ended up having to pay for the products, in fact I paid for all the tile, grout, mud and accent tile because he had not been paying the bills associated with his previous job. Oct 3, 2019 *** sent a text asking me for some cash because he need to buy a lot of materials tomorrow. The only materials he paid for on my job was a couple of pieces of wood and durarock. EVERYTHING else I paid for. My husband took up all the padding and carpet so that some progress could be seen as I was to stress out and told him so in an message dated Oct 12, 2019. I was out of town my husband was going by the house and no one was working. I told him we had to be able to move in *** Nov 15, 2019. His floor guys did not show up when they were suppose to which was preventing the movers from being able to walk on the floors. I ended up hiring my own floor guy who had to work through the night to get the floors done in time for the movers. His tile sub did not show up numerous times, damaged a chair by trying to force it through a door and by Nov 9, 2019 I had to change the locks on our door so he did not try to come in when we were not there.

I asked for an itemized bill Dec 30, 2019. Jan 15,2020 I followed up with a second email detailing the work and the pre estimates associated with that work. On Jan 31, 2020 I sent another email and told him I was going to contact his bond company. Finally on Feb 4, 2020 *** responded telling me he had never been asked for something like this so it was taking a while to put the information
Material purchased - ***
o Contract labor paid out - ***
o In-house labor - ***
Those amounts do not total *** it's *** short of that amount

Rewire three pot lights to except LED fixtures ***
Installing tile flooring in bath and closet ***

This is a different amount but more than his fist total. ***
It cost us thousand in lost rent because we could not move out of our home. It took months to do something that should have taken a week. Sloppy work resulted in ruined tile that I paid for.
***, his *** and one very unreliable tile guy were his "guys" that he repeatedly told me would get moving on our house. He has given me different amounts and three different kinds of labor charges. I think *** lost so much money on the previous job he used me to make up for it.
