Dear Ms. [redacted],
5pt;">We are writing to respond to the communications we received over the past week regarding our care of your husband. We are in receipt of your letter, as well as copies of your complaints to the Revdex.com (Complaint #[redacted]) and the State of California, Department of Justice.
First, let us say that we are very sorry that our services and billing did not meet your expectations. In our eight years of Revdex.com accredited membership, yours is the only complaint we have received. We have also never received a consumer complaint made via the State of California. We hope to address your primary concerns in this letter and to arrive at a resolution that you will find agreeable.
You are correct in stating that our company is not like a traditional home care company. We provide an integrated model of care where a professional Care Manager performs a biopsychosocial assessment, creates a plan of care, and then orients and supervises a team of caregivers ongoing. When you called asking for our help, you told us of your recent negative experience with a traditional home care provider. Given this, as well as your husband's complex medical needs and his imminent discharge from the hospital, the situation was very similar to those of our other clients and, in our view, very appropriate for a care manager's involvement. We selected one of our Registered Nurse care managers to assist you with this time-sensitive and medically-oriented situation to ensure the success of your husband's transition to home.
The majority of non-medical home care agencies do not employ Registered Nurses and Master's level social workers and counselors, nor do they provide expertise with coordinating hospital discharges. We are proud of the fact that all of our care managers are experienced professionals and members of the the Aging Life Care Association. In most cases, our care managers' expertise has helped our clients to achieve better outcomes than through a "caregivers only" arrangement offered by most home care providers.
In addition to asking for our help with your husband's discharge from the hospital to home, you also requested that we help you with the opening of your husband's long-term care insurance claim. We did this, at no additional charge, after you had terminated services with us. This included submitting the assessment report that you indicated in your letter was not useful to yo?.
We understand that family caregivers are under a great deal of pressure and thus we make every effort to explain clearly our services and associated charges during the inquiry process. Over the course of several days, you had more than one conversation with our Community Relations Director in which she described our services, our fees, and how we differ from traditional home care agencies. We explained our services to you, you signed the service agreement detailing the care management services we bill for, and you provided us with the service deposit for care management as well as home care services. Given all of this, we felt you understood and valued the services we would be providing. Attached is a copy of the Service Agreement you signed with us.
When you met with our care manager on 9/11/15, she provided you with a detailed plan of care for services going forward. It is my understanding that you let the care manager know at that time that you would not want care management going forward, and subsequently you discontinued services with us. As a result of the concerns you voiced in that meeting, we discounted several of the care management charges on your second invoice, totaling a credit of $300. The care manager let you know this and gave you a revised invoice that same day.
It was our care manager's understanding that once these adjustments were made, that you were satisfied with the outcome and would settle the outstanding balance for the work we provided. Our care manager and Controller made several attempts to contact you since that meeting regarding your outstanding balance with us and you did not respond to them. When we did not hear from you for over three months, we were surprised to receive from you a letter requesting forgiveness of the bill, as well as the complaints to two agencies. We regret that prior to taking these steps you did not let us know that your concerns about our services were preventing you from paying the balance of your bill.
Finally, you have indicated that our invoices are not itemized. We use standardized billing codes for the different services we provide, and did so on the two invoices we sent to you. Per your request, we have included additional detail in the attached explanation of charges.
We stand by the need for of all the services we provided; the accuracy of our billing; and that our communications with you were sufficient to enable you to make an informed decision about hiring us. Nevertheless, we recognize that you are now unhappy with what you received.
Because you have already received the benefit of the work we performed, and because we have already incurred the costs related to those services, it is not possible for us to forgive in its entirety your debt to us. We are willing to again mark down the outstanding bill of $1,459.50 by 30% and accept payment of $1,021. This represents a total credit of $738.00.
Again, we regret that your experience with our company did not meet your expectations. We would like to rectify the situation as soon as possible. We hope to hear from you shortly.
Sincerely,

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution in the discounted amount of $738, which would include the $300 Mr. Harnay writes he has credited me, would be satisfactory to me.  I have sent Elder Care Guides a check (#[redacted]) for $721.50 to clear my account.  I anticipate that the business will concur,  and, should they do so, will consider this complaint resolved.
Thank you for your monitoring my complaint.
