I am getting quotes. I have not bought windows yet from WinTek or any company. Besides sales being late to get a quote, the quote was very high. The home is 19 yrs old and wanted to upgrade to high energy efficiency. I replaced some windows 6 yrs ago in front of house. The remaining 7 original windows are all standard 32x59. I was quoted $14,000 for 7 windows. That is $2000 each. National average is $550 each. Even if you doubled that googled average, what the heck. Then I asked about just doing 5 windows (all first floor), minus the second floor two windows (two standard sized side by side). That was $9,300. Still that is $1,800 each. Looking at quality of window, double slung, nice, it's OK, but really? I asked about installers, do they have regular crew that works for them. He said yes, but we are all independent or self-employed (also known as a “business for self”). OK that is not unusual, but hard to insure consistent work, especially for a business 230 miles from me.

REFERENCE - although quality and features not the same, Home Depot Single Hung American Champion Window in this size $200 each ($235 with grids). That is $1645 with tax about $1,800. I could hire installers for a few hundred a window, say $250 or just round number of $2000 total. That is $3,800 vs $14,000. So they are charging almost 4 times. I understand it's apples and oranges, features, build, design, materials (may be). All good. But x4 the price? Reading the critical review here, above, ProVia made in Ohio (apparently Amish) and bait & switch, they did not claim they made it. Add in the high price, no regular crew I am dubious. The other 5 stars reviews except one look fake (not a real customer but put in by agent of company).

Bottom line is the price, that is a deal breaker. Now may be they will call me with a GREAT DEAL. Sorry they would have to cut price drastically. I am not paying more than $1000 a window, even that makes me choke. They offered finance. I was planning on paying cash but not this much. I asked what interest was. 9%. That is loan shark land IMHO. I will get all the quotes. If they are all high, I don't have to change windows, it is more a want than need. Although the 19 yr old original builder grade windows (single hug, double pain, aluminum frame) they work. The driving factor is energy efficiency. Features like double hung are nice for second floor windows for cleaning, but better efficiency is the reason. I may DIY it my self. I have skills and tools, can watch YouTube videos. Not hard. Or I will just replace 2 windows on the south exposed side of house, including the one window that has condensation in it (indicating it lost the gas).
