I called into their office to see how much it would cost me to have an ingrown toenail removal done on my big toe. I explained that my fiance is in the Army and due to his work schedule I had to go part time. In doing so, I lost my insurance coverage. I spoke with Leah and was given a self pay amount of $150 for temporary, or $300 for permanent removal. She explained they would inject my toe with shots to numb me and then go into the area and remove the ingrown toenail. I felt that this was a reasonable price, so I scheduled my appointment. Upon leaving the facility a couple of weeks later I was billed an additional $175. I called and asked Leah why this was happening as she had initially assured me it would be $150. She apologized and said she would speak with *** about having it written off. She then called me back and said that she was not going to write it off. I again brought my concerns about being lied to about the cost by her up, to which she responded by telling me "you didn't even show up to your follow up appointment." I have messaged back and forth with this health provider online and they refuse to do anything to help me. I have asked them to review the calls and to speak with her, and unfortunately they are not willing to do anything. Had they been transparent about the cost of the removal upfront, I would've called around and gotten an idea of what this would cost at other facilities. Something was done incorrectly that day which has lead me to having a lot of pain. I have since gone to Alabama South Family Podiatry in Dothan and they are going the route that is best to get this cleared up. I only wish Leah had been transparent from the beginning so I would have ended up going to Alabama South from the beginning. They take their time with their clients, and do not bait self pay patients in with a cost and then change it up. I have messages between ***'s office and I through their online portal I'd like to be uploaded if there is somewhere I can email them to.
Billing Adjustment I do not want this to go to collections. I also do not want to be forced to pay this to prevent my credit from taking a hit. I have a 780 credit score that I do not want to be effected by a mistake that was made on their employees end. This is something so small to a business like theirs, yet instead of own up to it they are trying to back me into a corner to pay it. I am now left with this bill and the new bill to get my toe pain resolved.
This patient was advised when she called to make an appointment what the cost of a new patient visit would be and that anything additional would be discussed at the time of visit. She was asked on the day of service if she wanted to have a procedure performed and she agreed to have this done. Out of a courtesy she was not charged at the time of visit as she told us about her financial stress. She was told we would work with her on payments. She was advised of the cost of the procedure and also of an additional procedure she might consider. She called the office multiple time after the visit with questions related to the visit that were explained to her and it was evident she did not listen to directions even at the time of her visit based on questions she called and asked after wards. I have explained over and over the situation and she refuses to accept the terms of our agreement. I am required to charge her for the visit a reasonable rate based on insurance contracts and stark law requirements. She was given the absolute lowest price visit possible without breaking any laws on my part. She also did not follow instructions and no showed her follow up visit which she was not charged for. She has been harassing this office and my staff for months and making threats. I am honestly concerned at this point for the safety of my office and staff regarding her behavior.
