She was prescribed glasses, which dramatically improved the vision in her right eye. I could offer her no improvement in the left eye without cataract surgery. [redacted], upon her examination, also purchased custom made glasses at my optical department on March 10, 2017. The prescription significantly improved her vision, based on her unique medical ecndition. Prior to this purchase, she had no glasses. These glasses were specifically made for her individual needs, and are useless to any other person. Therefore, this is not a piece of merchandise that can simply be restocked on the shelves and sold again. In accordance with office policy clearly posted on the wall of the optical department, NO REFUNDS are given on custom lenses and frame orders. The basis for this policy is eminently logical and can in no way be construed to possibly leading to a refund. [redacted] and her daughter returned on March 13, 2017, demanding a refund of the custom made glasses. We again explained to both of them the benefit of improved vision in her right eye, the one that die not require surgery, and we also explained to them, again, the fact that the left lens was prescribed already taking into account the post cataract surgery changes. Despite our explanations, [redacted] and her daughter stated that they are canceling surgery and any further care at my office. [redacted] consequently wrote a letter of complaint to the Revdex.com. In that letter, she makes some obviously contradictory statements, for example: "my daughter asked him if I will need another pair of glasses after surgery he said yes" and in closing "I was never told that I would be using them after surgery." Clearly, on the day of her visit end at the time her glasses were ordered and paid for she had the impression, as stated in her complaint, that she "will need another pair of glasses after surgery." This shows an obivous misunderstanding and confusion on her part. We have tried to explain to her and to her daughter in different ways that, in fact, the glasses prescribed were already taking into account the anticipated change in her post cataract vision, and that those same glasses would give her immediate improvement in the eye that presently did not require surgery. As she had no current glasses to use, this pair of glasses would benefit her even before her surgery. After her cataract surgery the only thing she might need is a possible fine-tuning of only one lens, the left, which corrects the operated eye, and not a completely new pair of glasses. Despite our office policy regarding custom orders, we offered to call the lab and give her a full refund if they had not yet started manufacturing her custom glasses. This, she and her daughter agreed, was more than fair. We called the lab and were informed that they, in fact, had already started making her glasses the afternoon of March 10, 2017. As is evident, we have been extremely diligent in explaining everything very clearly to [redacted] and her daughter. We have understood and met their every need, and have tried to accommodate them in E very way. Had [redacted]'s family allowed her to pick up her glasses, she would have had immediate and dramatic improvement in her right eye, and further improvement in the left, after her cataract surgery. General practice is that even though, after cataract surgery, many people have functioning vision without glasses, the best and sharpest di stance and near vision can still only be achieved with a pair of glasses. Finally, my long-standing practice is built on my supreme professional integrity and on my utmost commitment to providing the best possible care to my patients. I have never given any patient reason to question my honesty.
