I am writing to inform you that we received a letter dated 2/27/describing a complaint against the Wisconsin Early Autism Project. I apologize that we have not responded within the requested timeframe (business days), as I just became aware of this letter today. I am the Chief
Clinical Officer of WEAP, and I work out of our Milwaukee (T, R, F) and Madison (M, W) offices. Last week I was on vacation (March 3-10). Given that I was out of the office, I am disappointed that my staff did not pass along this urgent letter to another member of the leadership team or contact me directly. I will be providing additional training to support staff regarding urgent letters such as this. I sincerely apologize for this oversight. I will be investigating the complaint and plan to provide a full response in the next few days. The Clinician who directly worked with this client and discharged them unfortunately is consulting in Asia this week, so I cannot contact her in real time. I should be able to get the full picture within hours as I can contact her via email. I can assure you that WEAP is never paid in advance by an insurance company. Once we services are provided, we bill the insurance company, usually 3-weeks after the services have been provided. The insurance company can then take weeks or even months to reimburse us for services provided. Thus, the claim that we took money up front and did not provide the corresponding service is completely inaccurate. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to resolve this matter.
