Wisconsin Fuel & Heating, Inc. Reviews (25)

Of all the heating and cooling firms who have sent technicians to my home over many years, there is Wisconsin Fuel, and all the rest. Every tech they have sent has rectified the issue the first time. Not so with other companies. And not only are the techs smart, they are polite.

I had a new furnace installed by Wisconsin Fuel and they were very knowledgeable, courteous, and professional from start to finish.

Matt stopped out to service my furnace. He was very knowledgable, helpful and did an amazing job.
Thank you!

Friendly, professional people - got an explanation of issues with my furnace and everything completed to a high level.

TECHNICIAN WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND FRIENDLY

Review: I sent the letter below to [redacted], their [redacted] after receiving an invoice that we were told would not be issued. Mr. [redacted] never responded. Instead, I got another invoice, only this time with interest added on. I paid the invoice out of courtesy but would like to make a formal complaint against this operation. They are very sneaky and shady. Letter below:

Dear Mr. [redacted],

Recently I was sent a bill of $80.18 for a service call and feel I should not have to pay, based on the numerous trips your company made to my house in the past winter season.

On the first visit, when my heat went out, I was told the radiators just needed bleeding. We asked the service person about getting a new furnace and was told it was not needed: a hot water furnace like mine tends to last 40-45 years and mine was less than 30 years old (made in 1985).

On the next visit, when the heat went out, I was told it was dust due to a remodeling project. Later, when my heat went out again, I was told dust had nothing to do with it.

On another visit, I had managed to get the furnace running just before the technician arrived (don't know how I did it.) I was then told there was nothing for him to do since the furnace was running properly. As a courtesy, I paid the bill for the service call.

When my heat went out again in February, I was told there was an electrical part needed and the cost was over $200. Again, we asked if we should get a new furnace and the answer was no. I got the part and paid the bill.

My heat went out again at the end of March and we called your office letting them know we did not want to pay for any more service calls: we just wanted our furnace fixed. Your technician came over and said the pump had broken and the part would cost over $500 to replace. He then said there was another part on my furnace that could go out at any time, which also would be more than $500. I then decided to get a new furnace but was told another service call would be charged because this problem was different than all of the others. We told him to call the office and tell them that we didn't want to pay for another one as we were getting a new furnace. He called the office and we were told no charge. We then asked for a bid on a new furnace.

I eventually chose Lee Plumbing and Heating over your company, not because of poor service(your people were always friendly) but because their warranty was better. It was five years on parts and labor compared to one year for your company.

What bothers me the most is when your estimator came on the bid, he said that the boiler type I had only last about 25 years and mine was 29 years old. If I had known this at the beginning, I would have purchased a new one then and not have put my two and four year old daughters without heat on many nights during this long cold winter. My wife and I also work out of town and had to arrange someone to be at our house each time to meet your technicians when they arrived on service calls.

As a courtesy, I ask that this last bill of $80.18 be removed from my account.Desired Settlement: All I ask is for the last invoice of $81.37 to be refunded, which I was told we wouldn't have to pay during the last service call. The company broke their word and sent us the invoice after we chose a competitor to install our new furnace. $81.37 is the total after interest was added. $80.18 is the original amount and what I listed on my letter to Mr. [redacted].

Response:

We really appreciate your feedback regarding your recent service work. Wisconsin Fuel & Heating always attempts to do what is best for our customers. We are very pleased that you felt our employees were very friendly as that is important to us. The hardest part of our job is to repair a unit that has intermittent problems and is working when we arrive or after we reset it. If the boiler does not fail when we are there it is hard to trace down the cause of the problem. We replaced a $28.00 flame sensor that is most often the cause on 12/31. We were called out again on 1/8 but it was working when we arrived and we could not get it to fail. On 2/10 it stopped working again and we replaced the ignition module which fixed the problem. The water pump (which is a separate component from the boiler) that failed on 3/27 can happen at any time - just like with any other electrical component - the boiler was still working - it just was not circulating the water. To REPAIR or REPLACE, this is the most difficult question we have to answer on a daily basis with our customers. As with any product with electrical and mechanical components, a component can fail at any time. After repairing one component, there is always a possibility another could fail. We recently recommended replacing a 20+ year old forced air system that was no longer in production, exceeded it’s life expectancy, and would take several days to get parts for and the customer thought we were being dishonest by recommending a new unit. With your system, our technicians felt the system would last many more years (according to the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors the type of boiler you had should last 40 years – Our records show it was only 23 years old) after a relatively minor repair. Our service technicians are all certified and really try to provide the best solutions for our customers. That being said, we will certainly try to provide solutions and services to our customers with better communication to avoid these types of misunderstandings in the future. We service several thousand customers every year and, with each and every one, our goal is complete customer satisfaction.

Wonderful service, very friendly and helpful. Extremely knowledgeable and efficient.

Matt was on time and courteous. He did a GREAT JOB tuning up our AC. Took his time, explained and answered any questions were had. Perfect job!!! Would Rate 10 Stars!!!

With out a doubt these three gentleman Todd Jake and Jacob were very professional.they did an outstanding job .

My experience with Wisconsin Fuel & Heating , Inc was a good one. Everyone that I dealt with were very professional and courteous. The techs. TJ & Josh O were top notch installers of our new heating & cooling units, very knowledgeable, very professional. They said it would take 8 hours to install and it took 8 hours. Should have been 8 and a half but the two of them did not take a break.

Wisconsin Fuel has had our back for the last 10 years! We bought a house with a new energy efficient furnace. Our oil tank is always full. Service has always been been quick and efficient.

In first incident Wisconsin Fuel & Heating installed a part on my furnace without asking and then presented me with the bill.

The second incident could have been a serious situation. Wisconsin has had a brutal winter. On Sunday night, March 9,2014 my furnace stopped working. I called Wisconsin Fuel on Monday, March 10,2014 and they sent someone out in the afternoon to diagnosis the problem. They said it was the motor and the wheel they would order the part and someone would be calling me with the price that afternoon. I was handed a bill for $80. I had a coupon so the call was only $55. The phone call came shortly after they left from a Dennis who told me the part would be $200-$300 plus $21 for labor every 15 minutes. I said " Ok". Dennis wasn't finished...he said the part would take TWO WEEKS to get here!!. I said" it's winter and we can't go two weeks without heat". His answer " YOUR FURNACE IS 22 YEARS OLD". I told him I would get back to him. I knew at that point what Wisconsin Fuel was up to. Luckly through a friend I found a honest repair company who ordered the part and repaired our furnace as soon as the part came in on that Wed. March 12. On Thursday March 13 someone from Wisconsin Fuel called to tell me the part had come in. I never told them to order the part.

If your looking for a heating and cooling company please don't use Wisconsin Fuel. It wasnt bitter cold for a few days while our furnace was down but got cold again a few days later. This could be you next time.

The WI Fuel Team were outstanding! The work was completed quickly and professionally. Great job!!!

the service tech was on time and seemed very knowlegable. he was able to answer my questions and left me comfortable that my furnace was in good condition.

Overall was very professional, gave me tips as what to look for if incident happens again.

I purchased a new furnace from Wisconsin Fuel & Heating, Inc. in Kenosha, WI on November 29, 2013. I recently started having problems with trouble code 31 causing my furnace to shut down. I had service out three times. The first time the guy just looked at the furnace and did not repair anything because I was unaware about the codes. The second time the technician came out, it was a problem with the pressure switch. The port for the switch had actually been manufactured too small and it had to be drilled out. This is something they knew about but did not notify the consumer. Deceitfulness and unwilling acknowledgement of manufacturing errors or design errors at the cost of the consumer, shame on them. This was the second time I was charged a service call. The third time it happened, the technician came out and told me the exhaust pipe was at the wrong angle, it needed to be less level. He corrected the issue and checked the exhaust pressure. With the change in the angle of the exhaust pipe, the pressure went from .8 to 1.5. The office personnel (Stacy) told him to charge me for his time plus tax. Although this was a reoccurring issue and it was an installation error on their part. I had to pay again for an installation they had done. My complaint is not about the technician but the Company's Policy of not installing equipment correctly and then charging the customer twice for the same work. Sounds like a scam to me. They should also be responsible for contacting customers about design flaws to parts in their equipment.

Totally professional all around, from the person who answers the phone to the person who comes to do the service. Excellent business.

Everything seemed to be in order. My only complaint is that they are nonunion.

Wisconsin Fuel provided me with a new funace/AC and ducting. The price was competive with other estimates. The technicians installing the system were knowledgable, friendly and the quality of work was above par.

The service technicians did a fantastic job installing our new furnace. They were very respectful in my home as they removed and installed the new furnace.
