Concerning Mr***’s issue

Review: Our met with Wisconsin Homes and was appointed as the dealer for [redacted] only to have the agreement cancelled with no warning or contact. We have incurred considerable expense in both actual costs and time to promote Wisconsin Homes in our area. We are just about to enter a major trade show to promote them only to find this out. We have been working closely with them and a customer of ours and are days away from finalizing the sale of the first houseDesired Settlement: At the least we expect coverage for the cost already incurred to promote their line of homes plus the revenue from the loss of the sale of our first home

Response:

[redacted] did not have a display model. We require builders to have a model. To my knowledge [redacted] has never sold a home.

Consumer

Response:

We purchased a Wisconsin Home, and had it set on our site June 1999. The Serial No. for our home is [redacted]. We had problems with our windows from the beginning (drafts, moisture around the edges, mold that had to be wiped away, etc.), but no severe problems that were noticeable without taking the windows out. When we replaced all of our windows and the patio door this year, we (and the contractor) couldn’t believe that there was absolutely no insulation around any of the windows or patio door. The only thing that was stapled around the opening was a single layer of pink foam sill plate gasket, which was loosely installed and was useless, since it was not snug and did not form a seal. Nothing stopped air and moisture from coming in. The contractor said it was “a joke.” With respect to the patio door, there was no caulk nor any flashing, in addition to the lack of insulation, and we discovered extensive water damage to our floor because of this. I had replaced my front door by myself 2 years earlier, and discovered water damage under it as well, but I thought it was a fluke at the time. We know that this was an improper installation because it violates industry standards, and it violated the simple installation instructions on the label (which we still have) that was on the Kolbe Vinyl Windows. All this time we thought it was the poor performance of the windows, but it was the completely erroneous installation by Wisconsin Homes. It wasn’t possible to discover the root cause of the problem until the windows were removed and replaced. I thought I was purchasing a well built home. I had confidence in Wisconsin Homes, Inc., that the company was better than others in the manufactured home industry. After our discovery, I can see that my trust was manifestly misplaced. My wife and I were so utterly shocked by the lack of workmanship that I was convicted of the need to let others know of our terrible experience.

Review: Purchased home in 2004. In October felt floor spongy so I removed Vinyl flooring and discovered particle board completely wet with sub floor the same way. I took pictures and sent them to Wisconsin homes. I later contacted [redacted], whom I have spoken with before because of concerns with the particle board. (I talked to him about earlier about using ceramic tiles to prevent water penetrating the particle board). Anyways, [redacted] was pleasant and offered 400.00 dollars to repair the damage. I was not satisfied with this and began to explain and ask questions about the construction and the use of waterproofing materials. [redacted] became defensive and started to talk about the deck which is close to door. About building materials used in the deck construction. I told him what I knew and before I knew it he hung up.What I found when I removed the vinyl flooring, was the particle board was completely saturated. It has also damage the subfloor to a point where both had to be removed. I also damaged the wood under the door. Wisconsin homes only use pine instead of pressure treated wood under their doors. It also has damage the floor joist. What has to happen at this time the house has to be jacked up, the deck removed the vinyl siding has to be removed. The 2x10 that the door sits over the door has to be removed and replaced. The cabinets in this room has to be removed in order to get to the floor. The contractor came to the house and inspected the damage, he concluded that if Wisconsin Homes had used metal flashing under the door, installed pressure treated wood underneath the door, installed some type of plastic between the wall and floor joist the damage would have been minimal. We now have to worry about the mold issue we are facing. All the material now has to be removed and replaced. Repair cost 5000.00Desired Settlement: I would like to have Wisconsin Homes pay at least 1200-1500 to off set the repair cost. I feel that Wisconsin Homes did not use waterproofing materials to slow or even prevent the water damage that occurred. They did not use metal flashing under the door, nor use pressure treated lumber around the parameter of the home. It is also a know fact the particle board should never be used in construction of these types of home.
