I have learned a lesson from McGovern and it is "Buyer Beware." I was remiss in not getting an estimate from another septic service for the repair. That was my mistake. I reserve my right to complain that for materials that cost no more than $150 + 20-25 minutes of the repairman's time for installation we were, in our opinion, overcharged.  We hereby relieve McGovern of our future patronage. It is too bad because we had been pleased with past evacuation services.[redacted]

July 31, 2015Dear Ms. Stewart:In response to your letter dated July 20, 2015 McGovern & Co. responds as follows. The Septic services performed for **. & [redacted] at their address of [redacted] Lincoln University, PA [redacted] were discussed and approved by the [redacted]’s. The scope of...

work required was to replace the Outlet Baffle inside the Septic Tank with a 4” Schedule 40 PVC Baffle and Gas Deflection Baffle. The existing 4” PVC Inspection Pipe on the Septic Tank inlet was damaged and was repaired and secured to the Tank’s inlet. The cost for the old Baffle removal and new Baffle replacement is a fixed rate of $375.00, this covers all material and labor. Exposing the Inlet Inspection Pipe, repairing and securing the pipe to the Septic Tank cost $175.00, covering all material and labor. As noted in the customer’s complaint, our pricing was disclosed to the [redacted]’s and they agreed to have the repairs completed, not questioning the cost involved.McGovern & Co. rates for said services are standard to any and all of our customers. Replacing a Tank’s Baffle could range from $375.00 to $800.00 depending on the involvement of material, labor and equipment. Repairing Inspection Pipes can range from $75.00 to $250.00 or more. We were granted the approval to complete all repairs by the Gutmann’s after  all costs were disclosed. Requesting an itemized cost of material, labor, equipment etc. is not warranted, the rates are our standard, discussed and approved rates prior to any work performed.McGovern & Co. has always made every effort to communicate, educate and advise our customers in every aspect of the Septic Industry and staff only the best qualified technicians to perform such work. Our position stands that we were given the approval to conduct all work for the pricing quoted. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at our office ###-###-#### or my cellular number ###-###-####.Sincerely,Randy D. General Manager

Review: We had our 1000 gallon septic tank pumped on June 3rd, 2013 for a total of $245. We had to have it pumped again on June 28, 2013. Septic tanks are supposed to be pumped every 2 to 3 years. When the driver came out the second time he explained that he was the same driver who came out the first time and he did not clean and empty the filter in the second bay and that's why it had filled up so quickly. The company still charged us $245 again for coming out and pumping it the second time. My husband and I feel we should not have to pay for the same service two times in one month since they did an inferior job the first time which resulted in it having to be pumped again. My husband spoke to the general manager about this. He said since the second cover was not visible to the driver they were not at fault. But we never knew it had to visible. A different driver who had come out previously knew where to find the second cover and did the complete job.Desired Settlement: A full refund on our credit card for the June 3rd service for the total amount of $245.

Response:

Dear **. [redacted],

In response to your letter of complaint dated July 18, 2013, our position is as follows. We did pump the [redacted]’s septic tank on 6/3/13 and there was no mention of cleaning an effluent filter not was the filter access uncovered at the time of service. Our charge for cleaning a filter is $95.00 on top of the pumping charge of $245.00. As you can see the [redacted]’s were not charged the $95.00. The [redacted]’s requested another service on 6/28/13 due to problems, we again pumped the overfull septic tank and cleaned the filter. We did charge them $245.00 for pumping the septic tank which after a discussion with **. [redacted] it was clear they were not going to pay the $245.00, so we credited the account for $245.00. They should be responsible for the 6/3/13 $245.00 charge and we should be paid $95.00 for the filter cleaning.

If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at ###-###-####.

Sincerely,

General Manager
