WNC Insurance Agency Reviews (1)

The Canterbury Village Hotel is under new management as of January 1st, 2016. As of this time, all guests have been informed of the new management, given an explanation of expected changes and adjustments in the property, and information on how to contact management in the event of any questions or...

concerns. From this time, there have been absolutely no guests that have been 'threatened' with any illegal eviction or police action; the only conversations that have occurred to this effect have been in regards to criminal (drug and/or violent) activity engaged in by certain guests, wherefore we explained that this behavior was not accepted or condoned at our property, and that the police would be called if necessary to ensure the safety and security of our staff and other guests. At no time has any guest been "checked out and checked back in" in any attempts to circumvent the law - any guest that has extended their stay with us has only had their existing reservation extended, which is easily evidenced by the lack of any guest having to actually vacate their room and/or relocate to another room.In regards to the concerns raised about the Transient Occupancy Tax: there have been no guests that have brought this concern to the attention of the new management, and any that may do so moving forward will be provided with up-to-date information regarding tax exemption for long-term guests. From the City of Sacramento in regards to Section 3.28.060: "Exemptions shall not be granted unless the person requests exemption and files a claim for exemption at the time the rent is collected."Furthermore, exemptions shall only be granted provided: "The room [is] contracted for a stated period of time which exceeds 30 consecutive days; the contract specifies the number of rooms to be rented; the rooms are paid for, whether occupied or not; and the contract is for a period of not less than ninety (90) days." The hotel, to-date, has not received any tax exemption claim forms (retrievable from the City of Sacramento), but we will be more than happy to provide this information and these forms to any guest who wishes to schedule a stay with us exceeding 30 days - as noted, in order to receive this tax exemption, the stay must be scheduled for more than 30 days, and a tax exemption claim form filed upon check-in. To be clear, Canterbury Village Hotel has no motivation to continue charging any qualified exempt guest the Transient Occupancy tax, as this is purely a tax that is passed along to the City of Sacramento, and is not retained as income by the Hotel. We look forward to continuing to serve and accommodate the needs of our community and visitors to Sacramento. In order to maintain our reputation as a safe, comfortable, and welcoming atmosphere for all of our guests and staff, we stand firm in our statement that we will not allow criminal activity on our premises, and will continue to ensure that any that engage in such activity will be removed from the property.Kind regards,Canterbury Village Hotel
