Before I can respond to this complaint I would need a release of information from the complainant due to the HIPAA law.  She would need to indicate what items can be addressed-appointment details, services rendered, billing and action taken thus far.  Upon receipt of this release I would...

The patient was seen for a problem focused visit along with what the patient perceived as "clearance" for a screening mammogram she also discussed other issues.  Therefore an order was placed with central scheduling and the patient was to call for an appointment as they were closed at the time...

of her visit..  I do not know where she had the mammogram done as it was not done in our hospital system.  Our clinic does not do mammograms.   The billing she references is not our bill.  We cannot legally change the diagnosis as it was ordered due to complaints that she raised during her visit.  A copy of the doctor's notes are being sent to the patient.

Review: I set up an appointment with Women's Health Specialists for 06-10-2015 to be fitted for a diaphragm. The reason for this was my rheumatologist has suggested I look into non-hormonal birth control options. I made it clear when I set up the appointment this is what I needed to be seen for.

I went in for the appointment and was given a written prescription to take to the pharmacy to obtain a diaphragm. Upon contacting the pharmacy (Shopko) I was advised that diaphrams are no longer manufactured and I would not be able to obtain one. I called Walgreens and Walmart and was advised of the same time.

I immediately called Women’s Health Specialists to let them know and was told they would remove the charges. I was surprised several weeks later when I received a bill for almost $700. I called their office and was told they would look into it and call me back. I did not hear anything until about three months later when I received a letter stating the charges were valid and they would not do anything.

I called their office and spoke with their billing manager who stated the charges were valid and she was sending my account to collections.

On November 5, 2015 I contact the clinic on Facebook message and again explained the situation and asked them to reevaluate the charges. I received a reply on 11-06-2015 advised me their practice manager was out of the office for a couple days but they will follow up with me early next week when she returned.

Once again I did not hear from them. I contacted them on 12-16-2015 and let them now I still haven’t heard anything. I got a response that I would need to work it out with my insurance company. I replied and let them know this was not an insurance issue and there was no fault on the part of my insurance company, that issue was this appointment had been set up under false pretenses and now I am being charged for a specialist office visit (not to mention the fact that I had to take time off of work to go to this appointment). Their response was that they have not been notified by the FDA that diaphragms are no longer manufactured and they are sending my account to collections if not paid in full by the end of the week.

I have agreed that I would pay for the cost of the testing, however, I have been trying to get them to make an agreement to the $250 cost of the specialist office visit when I could have gotten this done by my primary care provider at less cost. As a practice that allegedly specializes in women’s care they should have been aware that diaphragms were no longer a viable alternative to non-hormonal birthday control.

It is disgusting that I have been trying to work with them since the day of the appointment, twice I have waited over a month to receive any type of response, and their only solution is to pay everything in full and they are sending my account to collections.Desired Settlement: I think the business should make an adjustment to the amount they are billing, as well now take into account the months of frustration they have caused. They should apologize for this and make sure their staff are educated on what services they are able to provide and should not be scheduling patients for services that have no purpose.
