Wood Floors By Classic Reviews (2)

Review: Two salesmen came to give me a price, which included a fee for moving the bedroom furniture. After signing the contract with Classic, I cleaned out 2 huge walk-in closets and 2 double closets in preparation. The day they were scheduled to come, 3 men arrived in a van that was painted, "Bargain Flooring," not Classic Flooring that had been contracted. They obviously subbed the job out although the girl in the office swore they don't do that. The men were out the door in 15 min., refusing to move the furniture because it was, "too heavy." Having worked for a moving company, I told them that any piece can be moved if you take the drawers out. They wanted no part of the job. I spent the day on the phone with the company to no avail and had to deal with their nasty "[redacted]" representative. They would only do the job if I signed a disclaimer stating I wouldn't hold them responsible if they damaged the furniture. Seriously? I continuously asked for the owner to call and was continuously told he would. I'm still waiting. At 7PM another representative came to my home to see the job and see if they could do it the following day. He confirmed that the subs would not handle that kind of job for the money they would get from Classic. That was it. The company left me high and dry with the contents of my closets strewn around my living room and no one coming to do the job that they contracted to do. The furniture did not grow in that room. It was all there when the salesmen came and quoted the job. I am now sitting here in a mess trying to find a reputable company to do it quickly so I can put my bedroom back together. They gave me nothing but grief and aggravation. This will end up costing me a good deal of money since I now have to do this job under duress because I have to get it done quickly.Desired Settlement: I want them to pay the difference this job is now going to cost me. I no longer have the luxury of shopping around. I need to get the work done immediately so I can put my bedroom and clothing back in order.

ID # [redacted]

Regarding :Customer Information,

This letter is in response to the letter I received 2 days ago regarding complaint ID # [redacted].

On January [redacted], 2014 one of my estimators name [redacted] and myself [redacted] came out to [redacted] to give her an estimate to sand and refinish her bedroom floors and rip up carpet at the above address. The job was scheduled for January [redacted], 2014. [redacted] was informed by me that we don’t move personal items (clothing) and was supposed to clear all draws before my crew arrived on the morning of the job. When we got there nothing was removed from the draws, she expected us to move her clothing from the draws.

During the estimate I put to her attention that 2 of her furniture (bed & dresser) are custom built in the bedroom which she also agreed. I tried to move the bed and dresser in front of her and I couldn’t and I told her I hope 3 guys may have a better result. Normally I would schedule 2 guys for this type of job but I added 1 extra guy just to try and deal with these pieces. I also told her that because the furniture cost is more than the job itself it’s not worth for us just in case something breaks or damages and that we needed her to prep the area by clearing the inside of the draws which clearly wasn’t done. When my team got to her house and saw all the personal stuff that was left in the draws they called the office. I told them to help her move some stuff and even after the clothes were removed the furniture was still very heavy to move. All 3 guys could not move the dresser.

I specifically told her at the time of estimate that we are not a furniture tech that can dismantle the furniture and build back and I also recommended her to bring a professional to take it apart or to move it so we can get to the floors.

I told both her there is nothing for my crew to do and for them to leave and that I will send her another team to see if they can move the pieces. When the other team arrived they also said the same thing that they cannot move the pieces and that she needs to get a professional to take it apart in order to move the pieces. She also agreed that and let my 2nd crew leave. The 2nd crew Humberto has been in my company for the past 16 years so he knows and have dealt with a lot of furniture in the past and if he told me there is no way just 2 or 3 people can move it I believe him and I had also tried myself to move it at the time of the estimate in front of her.

We are also a member of the National Wood Flooring Association for over 15 years.

Coming to her house with 2 separate teams was not only frustrating but was a lost on our part because I still had to pay them for coming out to work.

I did not take a deposit on this job because I did tell her a few times during the estimate I knew there might be a problem with the furniture. We were honest upfront so she was aware of the problem that may arise. I also told her 3 times that sanding the floors is the easy part and the challenging part was trying to move the furniture.

By the way for someone that said she works or worked in her family’s furniture company should have been upfront with us in the beginning during the estimate and instead of me having to send 2 crews I would have told her she has to get the furniture tech in to clear the room of the furniture then we would have come to get her floors done which is what we are professional in.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The response from the business is padded with lies which I will now point out. Firstly, the owner did not come to my home. Two of his estimators did. When they suggested I remove the contents of the dresser's six drawers to lighten the piece. I replied that I would gladly do so, but having worked for a mover the better way to lighten a piece is to instead completely remove the drawers. Any piece is easily moved when it is just a shell. They agreed it was a better option and said the men would do that instead. It would have taken them 10 min. to remove the drawers, but they refused. I would never have their men remove my clothing from the drawers like he states they started to do. Like most women, my dresser contains bras, underwear and other unmentionables. What woman would want strangers taking handfuls of these items out of their drawers? That's absurd. They refused to remove the drawers and did not touch my clothing. Secondly, I do not have any custom built pieces in this room that needed to be dismantled. I assume that is what the estimators are now claiming to absolve themselves from blame. I will gladly furnish photos of the bedroom which show it is a normal bedroom set with matching dresser, armoire, headboard and 2 night tables. There is nothing to dismantle as is stated and the owner would know that if he truly did see the job. In those photos you can see the floors have since been done by another company. The job was performed seamlessly, in every way.

There was a charge in the contract for moving furniture. The estimators saw what furniture was involved. If they thought there would be any problem, they would have noted it on the contract and they did not. This again proves that the owner was not present. Surely an owner of a floor company that is a member of the National Wood Floor Association for 15 years, has enough experience to note such a disclaimer in his contract before it is signed.

If they had suggested there would be any problem at all, I would not have contracted with them. Again, who would hire a company that foresees a problem? I had to empty 2 walk-in closets and 2 double closets into my living room. I would not do that and just keep my fingers crossed that it went ok. Additionally, when I told the customer service representative Karen that her estimators saw what was in the room and they shouldn't have contracted to do the job if they couldn't handle it. She said she agreed and was "bringing that to the owners attention". Why the need to do that if he was actually one of the men present.

The first crew walked out after 15 minutes, not even attempting to move anything. The second "crew" that is referred to was a man named [redacted] that arrived at 7 PM to just look at it. He was not there to do the job at that time of night and without a "crew". Also, why would they even send someone else - "a second crew" at they state, if I had truly been advised of everything in advance, as this letter states. If the furniture really needed dismantling as suggested and I was advised of such in advance, why would they send a second "crew"? That is just another one of the very obvious lies stated in this letter. Also, if it was merely a matter of me cleaning out 6 drawers, wouldn't I have done so between 8 AM and 7 PM when [redacted] arrived, rather than being left in such a bind?

They didn't request a deposit and when I asked if they required one they said "It's not necessary". There was no discussion as to a problem with the furniture. I would NEVER hire a company to do work that already anticipated a problem. There is too much competition out there for work, to hire an incompetent, incapable company. Does it make any sense to think I would actively seek a problem with the contents of all my personal effects strewn about my living room? I will gladly provide photos of that as well, so you can get an idea of the mess I had to live with until this was done.

Lastly, as the owner states in his last paragraph, "If he ([redacted]) told me there is no way 2 or 3 people can move it, I believe him." Why would he have to take [redacted]'s word for it, if he had seen the job and actually tried to lift the piece himself when he came for the estimate? Just another lie in a letter that is replete with transparent lies. It seems the owner lies like he runs his business...not very well.

This is in response to [redacted] Cosentino ID# [redacted]

I [redacted] the owner of Wood Floors By Classic did go to her house with another estimator to give her an estimate of her hardwood floors on January [redacted], 2014.

I did bring to her attention three times of the weight and size of her furniture as well as the fact that they were assembled in her room, also I physically tried moving the pieces by myself in front of her.

Nevertheless as you know we did send 2 teams on 2 separate times trying to get the work started, however both teams felt it was unsafe for them and the furniture to be moved without damage.

After doing this type of work for over 15 years now have managed to make thousands of customers happy and intend on continuing the good work.

We are also happy to hear that [redacted] Cosentino managed to solve her problem and wish her all the best.

Thanks

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The president of this company just continues to lie. No one told me there would be an issue with the furniture. Why would anyone reasonable business man accept the job if he didn't think he could handle it? If he actually had come see the job, he would have at least made note on the contract of the issues he now purports to see and advised me on. Instead, this only thing on the contract regarding the furniture - was a charge for moving it. Ultimately, they were incapable of doing such. As for him trying to lift the dresser to show me - seriously, that is a joke! No one ever did that nor do I believe an average man could lift a full dresser of any type -single handedly.

Again, none of the pieces in my bedroom are custom and assembled in the room. It is a standard matching bedroom set - with no assembly or disassembly required. I would be happy to forward photos. Actually, the other company managed to deal with it just fine. And...lastly, if he had told me three times there would be a problem, I would never have signed a contract. If it was IMPOSSIBLE to move the pieces, why send a second crew then as he states? Simply because the first crew was a subcontractor and didn't want to be bothered. It was quite evident when they showed up in a van painted, "Bargain Flooring."

I have taken my time to lodge this complaint for the sole purpose of informing the next customer of the problem that may arise with this company. I am happy to be done with them and this matter.

Review: In July 2014, Classic installed wood laminate flooring in 3 rooms. By November some floor seams started puckering/warping. I figured they might flatten since winter is a dry season, but the problems only got worse. I decided to wait until Spring before calling Classic about it.

In April I reported the problem to Customer Service (Lisa) at Wood Floors by Classic. They sent a total of three inspectors, over the following six weeks. The last inspector who came in June said the flooring was defective and they would contact the manufacturer about it.

I called Lisa the next week and she said this would “[redacted]” to resolve. Then my floors would be repaired. (approx. June [redacted])

It is now August [redacted]- and no action. That is two months from the expected repair time. But the real problem is that Classic does not take my calls. I call and call and call- no answer- all I get is the answer system which does not take messages.

Over the course of about 20 calls in August, I was able to leave messages for Lisa twice (around 8/* & 8/**). Neither was answered. I advised in the 8/** message that if I didn’t hear from them by 8/** I would file w/ the Revdex.com.

I've waited too long already and have spent too much time following up with a company that apparently disregards their obligations.Desired Settlement: I want the floors repaired ASAP-
