Woodford Bros Reviews (16)

Back in November, I tested my house for radon with a test kit that I bought on amazonThe results returned very high levels of radon, so naturally, I looked up some contractors that could give me quotes on installing a radon mitigation system, with Woodford Brothers being one of themI ended up choosing them because although the price was higher, it was still close to the other quotes, and it came with a warrantyThe salesperson (Gabriel) came over on November 24th and we decided on a plan, a price, and an installation dateIn fact, he called the office for me and got the date scheduled right in my living room on the same day that we signed the contractI gave him a check for the deposit ($316), and he left Everything was going smoothly, until 12/(days before the scheduled start date), when I got an email from Gabriel saying that he forgot to include a warranty – and oh yeah, the “Preferred Customer Discount” cannot be used along with the “Winter Discount” (We scheduled the date for January even though it was November, despite having very high radon levels in my house, because there was a discount for getting the installation done in January due to less work being performed in the winter months.) I had to agree to an $price increase because the discounts clashed, which he wasn't aware of in NovemberI agreed, getting Gabriel to guarantee to me that the installation date would remain the same So the date of the installation comes along (January 5th), and I hadn't gotten a phone call or email confirming the appointment, so I was just expecting someone to show up that morningI took the installation day off of work back in November, so that I could be home while it was being doneBy 11:am, no one had showed up, so I called the office and they informed me that I wasn't scheduled to have anything done that dayI told them that Gabriel said I could keep the same installation date, and then they directed me to call him and askI called him, and he directed me back to the main office, and said that they handled all the scheduling I eventually got them to agree to give me a full refundLorrie told me it was in the mail, so I waited a couple days and still didn’t get a check (local mail usually doesn’t take too long)I called Tuesday of the following week, and she tried to gaslight me by insisting we spoke the day beforeI informed her I called during the previous week and that she had told me it was in the mail at that pointSo I said “Alright, I was just checking up because it had been a week since I called.” and then Lorrie blamed MLK day for the delay and said “It’s in the mail.” I said “Thanks,” and she said “Mhmm” in a rude tone and hung up on me I eventually got the check for a full refund, after weeks of going back and forth of themI ended up talking to their accounting person and she sent it to the correct addressThey somehow had gotten an old address of mine, that I never provided to them, and sent the refund check there, which caused it to return to themI would recommend never doing business with them - it was a huge waste of time and moneyStay away!

Woodford Bros recently (Sept14-16, 2016) did a renovation in our basement, replacing two primary beams, 8x10, that were rottenWe were more than satisfied, actually thrilled, with the job they did Their estimate, and the identical final bill, was $2,lower than the other estimate we had gotten The crew was punctual, efficient, and highly skilledThe repair was perfect, in fact overkill (which I like)There was hardly any disruption to our living conditions, and they cleaned up at the conclusion so that we could not even tell they had been working They were polite and friendly, great guys Everything about this project was top-notch I highly recommend them

This is a great company to work with from beginning to endThe technician’s, sales, and office personnel are helpful and friendlyWoodford Brothers stand by a very high quality product and experience

Some months back, I wanted to retrofit part of my basement as an exercise roomSomeone named David B [redacted] came from Woodford to do his sales pitchWhen I asked him about the off-gassing/possible toxicity of some of the materials he was suggesting, he had no idea - though at a certain point he seemed to be starting to make things upFinally, he said he would research it and get back to me with more informationHe never didI called him to follow up, he said that he would get back to me, and that was the last I ever heard from him

We just wrapped up a big project, big for us, and couldn't be happier with the workers and the CompanyDave has been a great help clarifying all issues and the foreman Steve has kept up up to date with every move they are makingThe workers Joey and Tony were polite and made every effort to keep the dust and dirt to a minimumHard thing to do in bad weather and a dirt floored crawl spaceThey have installed an air filtration system as well as lining the entire space with insulating materialsThe musty odor a crawl space produces is almost gone within hours of instillationWe added some additional work requests and they were able to fit those items in without having to reschedule, AND they completed all items in the time they committed toThirty years ago they added a large addition to our house and did such a magnificent job, we couldn't think of any other company that we would of called for this projectThey also came in and reviewed some concerns with structural issues and eased our minds our problem was not nearly as troublesome as we thoughtWe are happy to, and do, refer Woodford Bros to anyone!

Woodford Brothers installed a remediation system in a home we purchased (closed on September 25, 2017)The vent pipe was foot above a bedroom window (code requires either 10' lateral distance or 2' vertical distance from any opening, such as window)Woodford Brothers added an extension that was too high (over 5'), and the wind blew the pipe around, so now the radon is discharging close to the bedroom windowI contacted Woodford Brothers and was told it would be repaired on Oct 6thNo one cameI called on Monday, Oct 9th, and was told it would be repaired this week before Wednesday, Oct 11thThe pipe is still hanging, blowing radon gas close to the bedroom window, creating a code violationI'm tired of calling Woodford Brothers, so I hope this complaint will spur them into action

In response to Complaint No [redacted] : The customer contacted us initially concerned about the roof over the garage coming away from the house and collapsing He then requested that we stabilize it for the winter (please see attached pictures) After our salesman, along with our foreman , found the true reason for the roof coming away from the house was the posts supporting the garage, the salesman suggested replacing them with two post extensions in order to resolve the issue in its entirety Our salesman wrote a proposal giving the price and the scope for the work While the work was being completed, at the customer’s request, the estimator returned to the job site and negotiated a reduced price The work was completed Instead of putting “a band-aid” on the problem, our salesman investigated and found the true reason for the failing structure We jacked and lifted the building, replaced the posts with treated materials and leveled the garage, which fixed the issue of the roof coming away from the building The customer called back after the job completion and requested another discount The salesman called the customer to resolve the customer’s issue with the price to discuss a reasonable credit to be given to himThe customer returned the call weeks later, and the salesman tried to contact him again but to no avail Our salesman has sent a letter to the customer requesting that he contact him to remedy this situation We have reached out in good faith; and if the customer chooses not to contact us, we have done all we can to address the customer’s concern and complaint.Thank you and kind regards, Tom [redacted] , Jr Mike [redacted]

We put an addition on our house which is on a cement slab years ago which began to sink after years what a night mare! Woodford Brothers saved my house they are awesome Mr Pdid the job and he was wonderful I can't say enough good things about themI made him tell me stories of houses he fixed that were worse than mine just to ease my mind Lol! The whole crew was great only thing I might have them do different is use painters tape for plastic on walls not duct tape ha ha

This company was easy to work with, upfront with cost and expectations and realized the need for timeliness in our situation without even being askedThey were very professional and I would hire them again

I have a poured concrete slab on my covered front porchOver time the end that butts up to the home has settled about 1/inchAfter reading about polylevel I decided to call woodford brosThe first estimator wasted hours of my time mostly because he was unfamiliar with his laptop and was unable to give me an idea on costHe promised to email me a price quote which he never did, nor did he call meI called woodford bros again and spoke to receptionists who always apologized and promised to get right back to meI asked to speak with the sales manager but she said she asked him and he was on another call and couldn’t speak to meHe suggested another eestimator Four days later they hooked me up with another estimator who arrived on time and was pleasantI like him and he emailed me a quote as promisedI was shocked to see a $+ estimate to raise a slab 1/2”It is literally a few hours jobIt’s not the estimators fault, it’s what Polylevel chart saysTotally crazy price for a si ple repair

Please see attached e-mailsThe customers complaint was resolved to both parties satisfaction via discussion and a partial refundDespite the fact that our company had contractually fulfilled our obligations we agreed that the circumstance did not allow the desired result, therefore we agreed to refund a part of the cost of the project out of a sense of fairness and to mitigate the customers concerns

I met with their estimator on my property on the St Lawrence RiverThe wood beams over the water and braces needed replacementThe estimator assured me they could do itI took weeks vacation to accommodate being there during this projectThe day the work crew arrived they informed me the water was too deep; 5-' with silt bottom & could not do itThe estimator stated that new beams would go to the second block pier from the water...the work order stated the first pierWe also discussed a new base for the braces, Tom stated that they would use the bases thereTotally inadequate to support the beamsThe dispute over how far back the new beams would extend would cost % MORE than the original estimate and NO new base for the bracesThey offered to build a floating platform to prop up the new beams for leveling and installing the braces...I knew this was not a viable way to work around water...a barge is needed which they could have rentedNo apology for wasting two weeks vacationThe work crew left...I informed Tom his services would no longer be neededMORAL of the storyWoodford Bros cannot do marine work

The worst experienceThey started the work and within hours called to tell me they couldn't do the work as they stated in the contractThey had already demolished parts of the foundation, and informed me that they would be replacing cinder blocks on a home foundation with woodWood? How do you mix cinder block and wood? The Worst! Fortunately the town shut them down for working without a permit before they could "fix" my foundationTerrible experience and Hugh S [redacted] is a shameless liarDon't do business with these people if you value honesty or competence

The Woodford Team of Bill, Mike, and Wayne just finished work on our barn todayFrom start to finish, this team attended to our barn restoration project with the highest degree of professionalismOur barn (built in 1887) was brought back to life, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the results! Not only were we kept updated on the progress each day, but always welcomed when we would pop in to take a sneak peakI grew up in a family that ran a successful construction company for almost years before my father passed awayI saw the care my father always invested in all his site projects, and the unique challenges that went with rehabbing/restoring existing historic structuresThis Woodford team offered that same care from start to finish, and managed every one of those challenges with great skill, care, and professionalismI highly recommend this team, and am more than happy to write this review in support of their ongoing work
