The complaint itself has some merit, but it is not fair and accurate as written. Granite monuments take time to fabricate (although not that much time) they are first cut, polished, carved,then shipped from VT to my office in Everett where it will be installed by us. The first step is having a...
drawing prepared, which can take up to a month or longer depending upon several factors, it is then sent to the family for approval prior to any cutting. The family did not return the drawing promptly, for which nothing will be carved in stone until we receive it back. There were also changes made regarding spacing of the letters, which further slows things down. The monument should have been completed by us in mid to late September. We have been running behind this summer when my dad was hospitalized. It was installed in the cemetery on October 21st. I will drive over to the cemetery today and send you a photo showing it has been installed, in fact over a month ago.
When the family came in on August 15th, it is true that we couldn't locate the paperwork quickly. but that did not mean the stone wasn't already a work in progress. It was in the works. This monument was manufactured in Vermont and not in Everett. The family may have come under the belief that since we didn't actually have the stone when they stopped in, then it was never started. Simply not true.
I am asking that you please review the contents of their letter and reach the decision that this was more of a misunderstanding with the family and not deemed worthy of a valid complaint lodged on our record.
