Woodyard Auto Service Reviews (1)

Review: My VW Jetta was having issues the first week of June 2014. I took my car to Woodyards for a "look over" and repairs. He called later in the day to tell me I needed a cam shaft sensor, timing belt and a fuel pump relay. On June 19th I went to pick up my car and paid $515.00. I drove directly to my job and when I left work for lunch at 6pm, my car wouldnt start, (my car always starts, regardless of any issues). Woodyards was closed since this was a Friday evening. So I contacted them the following Monday the 22nd and they sent someone to tow my car. I called them on June the 25th to check on my car, and I was told "its in the shop" and that he assumed I needed a throttle and thats why it wouldnt start but assured me it was nothing they had done and he had ordered the part and would get back to me once he got my car running. I called again on the 27th and on the 30th and was told it was still in the shop being looked at. Meanwhile I am renting a family members vehicle to get back and forth to work, spending triple the gas money I would of spent in my car. I called on July 2nd and was told that my car was running but "running rich" and when he drove it it smelled like exhaust. I then asked him what the deal was, because my car wasnt doing that to begin with. I also told him that I needed my car and if he didnt think he could fix it then maybe we should have the VW shop (the [redacted]) in Blacksburg take a look at it? He then told me to let him look it over some more and if he didint have an answer for me by ther following day then he may have to have someone else check it out. I called him back on July 3rd and agian, he didnt know the problem. I asked him to please just refund me my money and put all my old parts back in my car and I would get it to another shop. This is when he refused, and told me that the work he had done, needed to be done and if the [redacted] determinded that it was something he'd done, he would make it right. He also said that my car was running but I may want to be careful driving it to Blacksburg and hed leave my key under the mat. I go to get the keys on July4th, and of course, my car doesnt start! On July 8th, I paid $80 to have my car towed to the [redacted]. I get a call on July 22nd and the [redacted] determines the cam shaft sensor that Woodyards put it my car, was put in wrong. Causing the throttle and belt to break, which would be $350 for them to fix. After playing phone tag with Woodyards, I ask him to please just refund me my original payment and refund me for the towing bill. He then refuses to pay for anyhting other than the 350 to the [redacted] (which I appriciate) but then he tells me I had a towing bill from him for $125 for towing my car to his shop from my job the day it broke down after leaving his shop. After a runaround with that he then agrees to pay that, but told me he shouldnt do that because my car "was running when I left his shop". I then tell him that my towing bill, my car rental and the gas expenses for being without my car for over a month was a huge financial inconvinience and that I felt the least he could do was refund the remaining $165 from my oringinal bill, pay the [redacted] for his mistake and my $80 towing bill. He still refuses and tells me if I want to take it to court, that was fine, and he wouldnt pay the [redacted] at all. After thinking about it, I dont have the money or another vehicle to drive until the matter was setlted in court. So he agrees to pay the [redacted] and my car was fixed. My family and myself have been loyal customers to Woodyards for over 10 years. I felt the way he handled this matter was insensitive and arrogant. Other mechanics I have spoken to assured me, this wouldnt be the way they handeled this type of issue. I took the financial loss, and I know this sometimes happens. I wanted to make someone aware of this issue so that maybe, this doesnt happen to another person in my situationDesired Settlement: I would like the remaining $165 of my first bill and the $80 charge for my towing expense. So, a total of $245. I think thats only fair.

Response:

The car was brought in and checked. She was told it needed a Fuel Pump Relay, Cam Sensor, Timing Belt, and water pump. She was give and estimate of $500. The bill came to $515. The car was picked up on the 19th. She had vehicle towed back to the shop on the 22nd at our expense. We were checking the car when the customer said she wanted to take the car to another shop. She had it towed. The other shop called back and told me the Cam Sensor I installed was defective. He was told to fix it and we would pay for it. This fixed the car and all other work done to the car had no problems.

Thanks,
