We used this company to do our 2018 taxes and was referred to by a good friend who worked there...My husband was very ill at the time so I corresponded thru email to my friend at this place of business about our tax preparation, asking what they needed and how much it would cost, etc..I was quoted a ball park figure of 275.00 to 325.00 to do our taxes...taxes were done and we paid what we owed them for the taxes..Later on, I emailed back to ask what my husband *** should take out of his Pension for next year, since he was retiring the beginning of 2019.I was already retired and had a certain amount taken out of my pension to cover for tax reasons..but since my husband worked till retiring in Jan. 2019, he always had *** take deductions out of his weekly check..so no worries..we were now gonna be BOTH on retirement and SS and I wanted to know if I was taking enough out of my pension and asked my friend thru email what we should be taking out to cover taxes based on what figures that I sent them thru email ( to make it easier for them, not having to look them up)for 2019..being they did our taxes, I figured it was a reasonable question to be asking them..just to get things correct and to understand what they were telling me to do by email correspondence, I asked questions to clarify what they meant.. I was corresponding thru their employee *** CONNOR, who I have known for years thru my mother in law...these questions I asked were approx in July- August of 2019...after all was done and said, my husband and I had already had our own deductions taken out by our own request..so end of the emails...Then in mid December 2019, we get a bill out of the blue for another $160.00 for me corresponding thru email about our taxes back in July and August of 2019...I want to make this very loud and clear..AT NO TIME EVER WAS I TOLD THAT I WOULD BE BILLED FOR ANY EMAIL CORRESPONDENCE OR QUESTIONS SENT ABOUT OUR TAXES! We were very upset and cld right away and told them the same thing that I was NEVER TOLD!!!

Dear ***:I am the partner in our Oxford of?ce who oversaw the services provided to *** & ***. Weprepared their 2018 individual income tax returns which they paid in full. As *** explained, over theSummer she asked us to advise them regarding withholding on ***’s pension as he transitioned into ,retirement. We did this through multiple emails, answering follow up questions and providing furtherexplanation. With the necessary information, we projected their 2019 tax liability to calculate proper ,withholding, just like they requested. It is not unusual for billing to be delayed that time of year withcorporate and individual extension deadlines occurring in September and October, respectively. Timing ofinvoicing doesn’t relieve anyone from honoring their obligation.*** called our of?ce shortly thereafter to complain about the invoice while I was out of the of?ce. Ireturned his call and got his voicemail, gave a brief explanation and invited him to contact me to discussfurther. He never called back. I had called *** to tell him to pay Whatever he thought the sewicewereworth and then to ?nd another accountant. This offer still stands.I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to be paid for their work. 1 believe the answer is in the ?rst twosentences of her complaint where she states “I contacted my friend”. The problem is that she contacted myemployee at work, not her friend outside of work. At no time did they inquire, are you going to charge me,as they had done when we discussed the tax return preparation services.Sincerely,Stephen C, CPA .Partner

Customer Response • Feb 06, 2020

Dear Ms.;Thank you for speaking to me earlier this week, (Mon)..As I had told you on the phone, I did not find out about a response to my complaint from Mr. C, that was on the Revdex.com website till Fri. Jan. 31st, 2020.....and it was from Revdex.com telling that my case was closed? I have only gotten 2 emails from Revdex.com, one was when the case was opened, and the other that it was closed....the first Revdex.com email stated that your were waiting for their (Mr. Cs) response, and that IF it was resolved to let the Revdex.com know..as far as I knew , it was not resolved, so I never responded to the Revdex.com email, just waiting for some answer.. Upon receiving the second email stating that it was closed, it was when I, by a miracle saw, Mr. C's response on the Revdex.com website, since I was not aware that he even responded? There are many discrepancies in Mr. C's response that I will clear up and I can see there has been a big lack of communication on their/his part.....first of all, I could not write everything that I wanted to say on the Revdex.com website, I was limited to just so many words, etc..I just tried to get to the point, which is a lot to explain.. In Mr. C's response the only thing he said correctly, is that "they paid in full", referring to our 2018 Individual Income Tax Returns, which we did..as we do all of our bills...we are hard working responsible honest people...One of the biggest discrepancies is that, he keeps referring to my husband for everything, where *** has never spoken to or personally contacted anybody there, including Mr. C, at any time, whatsoever, for anything concerning our taxes..As, I have stated, he was extremely ill last year and was bedridden as well.... I had to do this all on my own......the only reason that I decided to go with this firm is that I knew ***, the wife of my ex- mother- in- law's nephew, who is an extremely sweet and lovely girl, who had also given me her business card awhile back, this is one of those work/business cards with contact information on it, email, etc..it personally had ***'s email address on it, since I knew only her, why wouldn't I email her?? Its inviting me to email for a CPA service, nothing on it says your gonna be charged a fee for inquiring about anything, at this time, we were only interested in getting our taxes done..I asked her a ballpark price of what he may charge, based on what I told her we had,.and since communicating with her through email was easier, she quoted me a figure of 275.00 to 325.00 on up, that is how it all got started...not ONCE, even then, did she ever say, hey, dont email me cause youre gonna get hit with fees asking me questions, it never even crossed my mind, and probably not hers either, since, after all, shes bringing Mr. C some new business clients.... we communicated about how and when to get the taxes signed, etc.. since my husband could not go there in person, and also they were doing everything electronically, we prefer sending ours in the mail and signing and going thru things at home once completed.... in the emails we communicated about the tax return, the weather, how my husband was doing, how she was doing etc.again not once did I hear I was being charged anything for these emails, just the quote for taxes was all that was ever mentioned...in fact, *** encouraged me many times to contact her if I had any questions, she was and always been a sweet and sincere person, and still is!! I even asked her questions then , since *** had to retire due to his illness in Jan. 2019, about what he should have withheld out of his Pension, a ballpark figure or amount, especially since they just did our taxes,we just wanted some clue as to what to withhold on ***, not me, I had already been retired and withheld a certain amount on my own..we eventually did the same for *** , on our own, even though Mr. C claims that he "worked" for something and was not paid...what a joke! I would like to know what "work" did he do.. Its only logical to ask the firm who did your taxes a question like this since, our retirement pension does not take anything out unless we specify an amount, its all voluntarily.. we dont have to have anything taken out, but you get hit with a big tax bill in the end.. we expected this regardless, of whether *** asked Mr. C this question or not,..we just withheld on our own a certain amount like I always did, on our own, even before Mr. C came up with an amount....and still even at this time, *** encouraged me to ask questions ANYTIME, and not ONCE was I ever advised I would be charged anything..being he just completed our taxes, I think its a very normal and logical question, aaand he would've gained another client....We had a wonderful CPA about 10 years ago,did our taxes, we asked questions anytime, even after they were done and invited us for free to discuss anything, never charged a dime..cause he wanted to keep our business, thats a real businessman.. he moved away, so we did our own with my sisters help..she became increasingly hard to get with grandchildren to raise, so I seeked help elsewhere for tax preparations..As far as Mr. C stating that he called our house and left a voicemail, we have not heard of such voicemail, and upon checking our phone, we did not see his number on it either..I will confess that maybe at this time he could have called and left his message, our recorder does fill up and we erase calls to make room, it could have been erased accidentally, we do not know... this does happen, our buttons are touchy....or he had the wrong number, we do not know..and it was also at this time that our dog had died unexpectedly and I was in a deep state of depression, losing her had me upset for quite a long time, and I really did not care about much of anything..I still miss her terribly.. The only thing we got from him was another 160.00 bill again..which prompted me to seek Revdex.com help....getting back to C's letter to Revdex.com....All through Mr.C***'s letter he referred to saying *** called, he called ***, etc...like I said, not once has my husband ever called or contacted his firm for any reason, this does not sit well with my husband, cause thats a lie,in fact neither of us have ever spoken to Mr. C, nor have we ever met him, either..like I said, my husband was very ill...I corresponded through email.to ***...in good faith, paid him for his tax preparations, but never was told at ANYTIME FOR ANY REASON,that another bill was coming or that we were even being charged for anything further..regardless of whether it was his "employee" or not!! This is nothing but pure bad business practice and what I call very disingenuous/ dishonest to say the least!! I do not see at all where he "earns" anything more than what he got for his taxes, he charged us 275.00...we paid him.....and furthermore, I did not ask for any 2019 Projection thing either, hes just looking for some way to bill people and used the emails as an excuse for some fees or charges, why would I ask if I am being charged for asking really a simple question, and encouraged by *** herself to ask questions anytime? Im pretty sure she probably did not think any different than me...hes looking for an opportunity to gouge and rip people off and making it evolve into some big phony"2019 Projection", that I never asked for nor was I informed of either!!! We are people of honor and pay for what is fair, this 160.00 bill is nothing more than a total rip off for no "work"done! As far as Im concerned, hes another vulture along with many others out there ripping people off..even a lawyer tells you what he/she is charging..and im no fan of lawyers either....Im a very fair minded person and resent being taken advantage of and will stand up for I believe is right!! And this is NOT right!! And totally deceitful!!In closing, I hope that I have answered all the questions needed to resolve this matter, I stand firm with my side of the story, and Mr. C should in the very least inform his "employees" of his practices and disclose fully what hes charging people for..and if its emails he charging for, I believe he wont be in business too long, and the customer must be informed up front, not waiting for me to ask "are you going to charge me?" How ignorant!! I truly believe that he does this on purpose to run up some bogus bill, and how do you put a price on emails? Give me a Break!!! I will let it be known on every source of social media how he operates, if this is not resolved to my satisfaction, which is we owe him ZERO!!Thank you for your time in this matter, Sincerely
